So. Just started Belmont’s Curse. Really early spoilers here, but this Medusa isn’t actually Medusa, right? Her tarot is “prophetess”. She’s constantly talking about prophecies and how no one believes her. This isn’t Medusa’s schtick. It’s Cassandra.

I think monster hunter’s tigrex is a real standout fight. Seeing that thing barrel at you teeth-first is terrifying in a way few things in that game manage to be. And I like its gimmick. Made me feel very smart to notice that it heavily favors forward attacks.

Are there any other monsters that feel like they have actual intentions? Bishaten sometimes throws fruit to take you out at range, but it’s not consistent. He doesn’t actively keep his distance, he’ll try to close the distance and bludgeon you with his tail, or just wait for you to get close.

Most monsters get a tail swipe and a body slam to handle a hunter standing at its side or back, but tigrex? It has a tail sweep that turns maybe 280 degrees around it. And it doesn’t like that attack, either. It actually prefers to leap back and get some distance to charge you.

Terry McGinnis makes a very interesting contrast to Bruce. They take things personally, but in different ways. Terry is more likely to retaliate over an insult or injury, while Bruce feels like every tragedy is his responsibility. But you can see the mentorship bringing out the best in them both.

Ok, I’m risking judging by the thumbnail here, but this thing… it fills me with dread. The words “redemption” and “jax” should never co-occur. If you watch the show, the only reason things got so fucked is because she thought she wasn’t “redeemable”. There was no point trying to be anything else.

My not-so-hot take is that what Mamdani is doing *IS* incrementalism, and the bar is so deeply in hell that a politician just doing *anything* good consistently is a total anomaly for people. And I think for now that is good and fine, because it is restoring people’s faith that better is possible.

New theory about gaming: the wrong difficulty for a game is when the little annoyances become genuine obstacles. Getting stuck on a slightly raised bit of floor means you take a fatal attack instead of a bit of damage, that kind of thing.

Observation: in Wolfenstein: new order, it was always obvious when a commander managed to call for backup. In the sequel, I felt like I could never tell. It seemed like they’d play the line about calling reinforcements and no new mobs would show up. Maybe I played at different difficulties?

Soulslike: Dodge and parry=2 dodge buttons. Highest possible ceiling for boss fight mechanics. FPS: rarely has a dodge button. Bosses constrained to following you at below maximum foot speed.

No. Absolutely not. Arkham Knight did not just fridge Barbara Gordon for the SECOND TIME. Of all the wasteful, idiotic, uninspired, downright cheap… Christ alive. It’s like these people only know how to do three things with female characters- kidnap, maim, or kill. Alright. This game can get bent.

Update: it was a fake-out death. While it’s nice that she’s still active in the plot, that really shouldn’t be possible. It’s been true since Arkham Asylum that scarecrow’s fear toxin doesn’t fool the detective mode scanners. The joker hallucinations in the game don’t show up.

I used detective mode to check her identity. It really should not have been possible to fool it. Even if it was, the gas has a time limit. It would be possible to go back and verify her identity.
