the new deadlock update didnt give us the vyper rework so i figured id poke around again at possible design spaces for her. i like my previous one but i think it was too contemporary. leaning into the mobster goon and escaped convict angle here

finished chapter 1 of trails in the sky and im loving it. i love the lower stakes. the living world. how much it focuses on the setting, its factions, bureaucracy, history, economy. its SO good. unstoppably pretty game too. the fact games dont look like this anymore is criminal

i was sold on the whole "EVERY npcs dialogue changes between every main story beat" and i have been DILLEGENT and immersed in that aspect. the little npc storylines arent groundbreaking but theyre cute and sell just how alive this world is.

my favorite one so far is the ex-solider who tentatively opens a clothing store. his wife doubts its a sound career change and is a bit of a grouch about it, but eventually admits that shes happy she gets to see him more than when he was in the army, and that hes happier now

for my haikyuu heads out there: whats your favorite game in the series? the one i keep coming back to the most is the inarizaki game. it doesnt just have my single favorite moment but feels like where haikyuus main thesis becomes fully realized.

i love love love hinatas arc and how the GREATEST celebration of hinatas growth is not in his raw talent but instead of the skills and tactics he has truly TRULY refined though hard work and intent. god its so good. its PERFECT. i need to rewatch/reread haikyuu. perfect series

really really hope kairi is a major playable character in kh4. we already know that donald and goofy will have playable sections, and i think i makes perfect sense that shed join them in their search for sora, making a new little trio.

it also just makes so much sense shed earn the right to save him the way he saved her. but idk... not going to get my hopes up. we already know riku makes it to quadratum not problem so. big shrug. though even that could play into kairi still being the one to save them.

in the first game it was sora and riku trying to find kairi and her lost heart. now these two bozos are trapped in shibuya purgatory and its her turn to step in and pull them out! idk. ill cope till i die i guess

i feel like her dynamic with the two would be really charming too. they toned it down in 3, but i love how kinda quippy and snarky kairi can be. where sora and goofy kind of play foils to donald, i feel like kairi and donald would have really fun dynamic of being smart alecks.

the little guilty gear erica short series was so incredibly charming and well made. its clear it was made on a budget, but its really smart with its use of limited animation and framing. its basically just key poses but it looks great.

i wonder if it was a way to test a new animation pipeline for guilty gear or other arksys games going forward? it honestly looks better than strives story mode (by a LOT imo) / the new shorts theyve been making for the battlepass. id really love to see this style going forward!

its so hard recommending iruma to people and making it stick. its a series that takes such a long time to show what makes it so special, especially compared to its contemporaries. but god damn if this silly nightmare before christmas ass comedy is not my favorite manga ever
