I'm reviewing a paper for the third time. I keep begging the authors to refer to any of hundreds of papers to show how their work builds on and contrasts with previous work. The authors, by total coincidence, have chosen to cite my work. FLATTERY WILL GET YOU NOWHERE

From 2022-2024 I volunteered with the New York Academy of Sciences Scientist-in-Residence program, where I taught elementary and high school students about networks and epidemiology. This week Connections published an article detailing our classroom activities: reference-global.com/article/10.2...

We calculated the health impacts of these interactions. As a follow up, we also investigated how integrating mental health screening and treatment with #HIV care could reduce health burden of both conditions, which also came out earlier this month. bsky.app/profile/dtci...

New paper out! "Cost-Effectiveness and Impact of Depression Treatment Implementation on HIV Outcomes in Western Kenya: A Mathematical Modelling Study" onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/...

Again I want to thank all the reviewers and editors who helped us with this paper, seeing as it is harder than ever to find time to do this necessary but thankless work.

These interactions include elevated #HIV risk among people living with depression and elevated depression risk among people living with HIV. For people living with HIV, depression also is associated with delayed linkage to care and reduced HIV treatment efficacy and retention.

Pushing through publications has been tougher than ever since 2025, given how time and funding are more precious in the sciences than before. I want to thank the editors and reviewers who put in the time and effort to work with us on making the paper stronger!

We built a simulation model of HIV transmission dynamics and major depression, with the interactions between the two conditions coupled together. We compared different strategies for integrating depression care with HIV care, and assessed the total impact of depression care.

Saw this installation of “Untitled” (Portrait of Ross in LA) at MOMA last weekend. It’s a profound piece, I felt too moved to participate in eating the candy. But there were many people present who really seemed to really enjoy the candy, which added another layer to the experience.

📰 New from @npr.org : #AIDS2026 is in the spotlight. The story features leading experts, including IAS President-Elect Kenneth Ngure, and explores the latest advances in HIV prevention and treatment alongside the urgent need to sustain the global HIV response.

I just did this for the second time, it took me about 20 minutes, and it feels great to be working together with so many other fellow citizens who understand how damaging this is going to be for all Americans.

Did you write your comment yet on the OMB rules on federally funded science yet? No? Don’t worry, you can do it this weekend. Here are some resources that can help you get started.

I read Ta-Nehisi Coates’s Captain America run earlier this year, a book which wrestles with what America means, and what it still could mean in the future we want to build, even after falling into the clutches of authoritarianism. The run references these panels from 30 years earlier throughout.

Love this horseshoe crab design by Michael LaFosse, so simple and elegant. Would you believe the base of this crab is actually just half a crane, with one of the wings spread open to make the horseshoe shape of the shell?

I've found that when I use LLM tools in my professional work - writing or coding - usually I have to put a great deal of thought into what I want the model to produce. If I don't do that, if I rely on the tool to do my thinking for me, the end result is not very useful.

Why does planning an essay feel like you're doing all the work before doing the work, Grammarly? Because learning the subject, figuring out what you want to say, and planning out of the structure of how to say it *IS* the vast majority of the work of writing. Any writer knows this. You do too.
