jaylen brown getting irritating slow motion drive buckets but to my team's benefit now. incredible. can't believe Boston didn't want to live like this

Think it's time to reckon with the fact that hurts is pretty limited. He's not dilfer but he's more that than he is a guy that can consistently make the offense better. Doesn't excuse Sirianni who makes 4th down decisions like he's on quaaludes

can't watch any of the playoff baseball and think that the phillies were competitive with these teams. they all have pitching and lineup depth. phillies failures are mostly about team construction.

memo to the phillies hitters: he's throwing an effing splitter. it is the splitter. it's not a fastball. it's a splitter. you are on "fool me" round 35 at this point.

another visit to this website, and first thing I'm greeted with is someone saying that MGP is a corporate shill, which is just a small microcosm of the brainworms on here. I'll try again in a few months.

Very funny that the players caught up with how good and fun and honestly respectful the Philly boos are, but this site is full of dorks who will never get it

I love the usmnt bit where they do well and get the "i don't care for sportsball" people to finally watch a match, and then remind those people why they hate sportsball

harper's bazaar has fallen -- yet another literary prize goes to an ai. it's genuinely very funny that the most anti-ai art types, who are all about denying the viability of ai in art (or really anything), keep getting absolutely dunked on by claudes and gpts.

it was pretty funny to hear jefferson saying 'getting that block without fouling' while the slo-mo showed harper getting hit in the head, then the arm, then the other arm

what do these people think open source means? or 'a version of...'? going to be a rough two years of journos peddling nonsense to people who don't have a clue.

Jesse Felder@jessefelder.com

‘A version of Google’s open-source model Gemma 3 responded to a question on how to disperse chlorine gas through a crowded indoor space, generated code to steal credit card information and wrote stories describing child sexual abuse.’ www.ft.com/content/5630...

the reactions to the granta / commonwealth short story prize on here are funny. every tech bro that loves AI saw that fraud within two paragraphs. the crowd on here is backing into reasons its bad based on "bad metaphors", but if they didn't know it was AI they'd be enamored with the novelty.

if you're super anti-AI, the granta people are almost certainly on your side. so what of the story? either it's simply not as bad of a story as the critics say, and rightfully duped the "experts", or the tech crowd has much better taste than the literary crowd. pick your poison.

jose alvarado is strange. sometimes he's oblivious to runners on base, then suddenly when he's got one guy on and two outs, the runner tunnels into his brain and won't leave. he can't think about pitches, he must Do Something about the pesky Guy.

hmm, site doesn't seem to have gotten the news about the AI-generated story that won the commonwealth short story prize. i'm excited for the post-hoc rationalizations. one reason that anti-AI people should be familiar with AI-generated content is so they won't be duped like the contest was.

the thing about the sixers is the whole process thing was derailed by silver and then colangelo then the elton brand era. anyone trying to label that as a process failure is off their rocker.

a good heuristic: I'll come back to this site when the comments on a very normal 2026 thing, like this, aren't absolutely insane.

Bluesky is made with AI, the engineers and even some non-engineers use Claude code

searching 'stancil' over here and apparently the modal opinion is that he's a right-wing agitator. so ends my quarterly check-in on this website. maybe one day it'll be less diseased.

the cited reason for the drop (just look at the pull quotes!) is the treatment of the campus protest for Gaza!

Jonathan M. Katz@katz.theracket.news

Love that the University of Virginia plummeted to No. 21 because students say they have to "self-censor." As opposed to last year, when UVA was No. 1 after the administration sent the police to violently crush a small student encampment for Gaza while thousands of people looked on.

One of those days when this website is on something completely different from the other one and both are trying to pretend a specific thing in the news is not a thing. Fascinating tbh.

a very simple exercise for these people: if you can't say the sentence when you replace "kids/children" with a minority racial demographic of your choice, you should not say the sentence.

Matt Ufford@mattufford.bsky.social

saw a "children shouldn't be allowed in restaurants" take from a non-parent mfer go to a BAR

yet another indication that this site has fleas: that bret stephens article has 0 attention on the other site. this place guarantees that every weird conservative thought gets immense reach because bluesky can't stop doing dunks like it's 2018

The culture war stuff doesn't work because they believe in the enemies, it's because it's simply *irrelevant* to these towns. They see these as city concerns and find democratic fixation on them annoying. This is why culture war attack ads work! Because they are saying "they don't care about you"

The "she's for they/them" ads don't work because they are convincing to bigots, they work because they say to rural towns "this is all they care about". And Dems take the bait every time.

These towns have their own little hierarchies and the towns don't want to upset them. The economic strata are a feature, not a bug. For every big cat billionaire that the left rails against there are many small town millionaires, but they are helpful pillars of the community.

if you want people to be "realistic" about tech you should not be so dismissive. it's fine to say something is far-fetched. But it's silly to say "no pathway". Cava and others have been doing similar monitoring of their *customers* for years, using basic sensors and raspberry pis. it's not all LLM.

Abigail Nussbaum@abigailnussbaum.bsky.social

Once again, it must be said as loudly as possible: AI can't do the things described in this paragraph, and there is no pathway to it ever being able to do them.

I don't get mad at AI skeptics for being skeptical, I get mad at them for ploughing their heads into the sand and narrowing their thinking to a comical degree. It's been 3.5 years of skeptics saying AI can't do much and yet people keep finding real uses for it. We need sharper critics.
