In that fuzzy period where you're still mostly asleep but wakefulness is creeping slowly over you, it sometimes occurs to me to hop in the car and drive out to see my dad. Then, as I come more fully awake, I remember that he's twelve years gone and I'm on another continent.

Aww.

Goodbye, Captain Dallas. "So I went to see The Duellists. And it was a masterpiece. I mean, I have never seen a picture that captured so much production value as The Duellists. Magnificent-looking film, a painting from beginning to end. So I had to do Alien at that point.” Tom Skerritt was 93.

I remember seeing this years ago, growing up in Ireland.

In 1966, Bill Mason released his acclaimed live-action short film Paddle to the Sea with the National Film Board. The Oscar-nominated film became a fixture for Canadian children in schools for decades. This is the story of that film. 📸 NFB 🧵1/10

I look like this even without getting hit by a ball.

Slow motion shows what a ball hit really does to your face: cheeks and lips ripple like firm jelly while the bone barely moves, all in a few thousandths of a second.

Doing a little nostalgic comicbook reading: #StrontiumDog from #2000AD from 1986. Johnny Alpha hunts Max Bubba and his gang to avenge the death of his partner, Wulf Sternhammer. This storyline left an indelible impact on me back in the day. I'd totally forgotten about the Chums of Dennis, though.

Photographer Brendan Larsen left his camera recording the night sky over Mt Taranaki, New Zealand, for nearly two hours, capturing 578 photographs. The result? An estimated 14,450 satellite trail appearances, representing approximately 1,400 individual satellites. Original post

Staples are bent steel wire, and with enough patience they link into a working mini car with no glue or welding. The real challenge is balancing strength and weight so it still rolls.

The advice back in my day was a little different but the whole world's gotten massively fucked up since then so this version now seems appropriate. Hit me up for more great ways of handling the madness.
