👋 Greetings + welcome, new BlueSky-gazers! I'm an engineer working on the developer experience for @Google's AI tools, especially aistudio.google.com, its API keys, @GoogleColab, Gemma open-source models, @Kaggle, and JAX. I post use cases, quick technical overviews, and images of hiking trips. 😀

aistudio.google.comGoogle AI StudioGoogle AI Studio is the fastest way to start building with Gemini, our next generation family of multimodal generative AI models.

"Artists have been deluding themselves for centuries with the notion that they create. In fact, they do nothing of the sort. They discover. Inherent in the nature of reality are a number of combinations of musical tones that will be perceived as pleasing by a human central nervous system.

millennia we have been discovering them, implicit in the universe--and telling ourselves that we 'created' them. To create implies infinite possibility, to discover implies finite possibility. As a species I think we will react poorly to the fact that we are discoverers and not creators."

👋 is there an eval for ai-driven kernel *maintenance*? not generation, but migration. like, cuda→hip, gfx942→gfx950, rocm n→n+1, etc. migration has a built-in verifier (the old kernel is the spec), so it should be way more benchmarkable than greenfield kernel generation who's working on this

the kids who would've spent their 20s designing programming languages are about to rediscover what nerds did before compilers existed: building entire middle-earths to contain their type systems tolkien-core. we're going back the man was just a compiler nerd with no VC funding

🍌 🐌 Banana slugs, giant redwoods, petrified forests, geysers, waterfalls, logs that almost-but-not-quite break when you walk across them 😅, fainting goats, remote veggie-forward 7th-day adventist towns, and some of the most beautiful stars I've ever seen. 🇺🇸 blessed to live here, happy 4th! 🎆

🌲🪨 Coolest potential investment I've seen in recent memory: The Petrified Forest in Calistoga is for sale, for just under $10M! The unique, privately-owned park features ancient redwood trees turned to stone by a volcanic eruption 3.4 million years ago during the Pliocene epoch.

...and even better: they're using JAX (with Flax), @ollamabot.bsky.social, and @mistralai.bsky.social! 😁🍔

Finally, AI finds its ultimate use case. A diffusion model trained on burger recipes "discovers the classic Big Mac without explicit supervision and generates novel burgers optimized for deliciousness, sustainability, or nutrition." ASI= automated slider intelligence www.nature.com/articles/s41...

💗 NanoBanana 2 Lite is my go-to now for image generation and editing! Very, *very* high quality, at only a small fraction of the price of our other image editing models. 🙌 Bonus: Omni is now available via the API! Create and edit *even videos* with natural language: 🔗 blog.google/innovation-a...

🎶 Bought a ticket to go see The Feelies play "Crazy Rhythms" in its entirety in NYC this Saturday, but unfortunately can't go. 🥺 Anyone want the ticket (free)? It should be an amazing time, one of my favorite albums! Just want it to go to someone who'd enjoy it. m.soundcloud.com/dynamicwebpa...

🎮🤩 The California College of Arts Game Design showcase is *so cool*, and very robotics and AI-pilled this season! The open house ends today, but opened up their entire lab to play computer games, console games, and board games. Loved the creative and beautiful work from these students!

OH: just like autonomous cars are still designed to look exactly like regular human-driven cars (for now), the only reason agentic IDEs still look/feel like traditional IDEs is because developers feel comfortable using them, and because dev infra has been built up around them

💡ai.dev and the Gemini app are now options on Ideabrowser for vibe-coding your next business! Am going to go ahead and call dibs on the idea to detect decay of open-source projects (and to expand it out, to add new OSS tools created by agents that could be repurposed across multiple projects):

I just talked with my cousin who was doing their first year in CS and is thinking about changing because of this kind of thing Wild to me that it's something they've seriously considered

There are kids who entered into university right before ChatGPT was released (Nov. 2022) who are just now exiting, into a completely different world. I wonder what percentage changed their majors, what percentage dropped out, what percentage started new companies? wild timelines, y'all 😶‍🌫️

This is huge. I like how the result looks and the complexity of the animation AI still feels like ✨magic✨

Continuously impressed with what ai.dev 's Gemini models + code execution can do! 🧬🧫 Just created this animated GIF with a single prompt ("Create and display a step-by-step GIF of a cell going through mitosis."), which pulls in data visualization and analysis libraries like Pillow and matplotlib:
