Rupert Murdoch's Wall Street Journal is once again publishing propaganda on behalf of the fossil fuel industry, this time by printing pseudoscience.

Not one of my 1 article published in the Irish times was included. Your loss AI. Jokes on you.

Michael Livingston@michaellivingston.com

Meta used at least 16 of my books, and numerous articles, to help train the AI it will use to make billions. Authors, search your name here: www.theatlantic.com/technology/a...

Of all the posts in social media the ones I enjoy least are the “I swear, I’m going to post less” posts. Shit or get off the pot.

Alastair Meeks@alastairmeeks.bsky.social

I'm going to try to cut down on my social media. It's not good for me to be constantly bombarded with awful news I can do nothing about. So apologies if I respond more slowly in future.

Trump doesn’t just need to implement his policies. He needs for people to believe they have gained more from his dictatorial leadership than they miss their lack of personal freedoms. Otherwise what he does can be reversed in 3.5 years. I’m not sure how he can do that.

WIRED@wired.com

They're called public records for a reason. Starting today, WIRED will *stop paywalling* articles that are primarily based on public records obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, becoming the first publication to partner with @freedom.press to offer this for our new coverage.

The move from x to BSky seems to have slowed to a trickle. Maybe it's just me but I am seeing fewer interesting posts here than on X. I don't use social media to find community. I'm lucky. I have that. I use it to perk my interest. When someone says something that makes me think. BSky doesn't.

Reminder that for the US welfare state, the point is not to relieve poverty but to best manage the specter of destitution as a means of disciplining the bottom rung of labor. Countless academics point out it's cheaper to simply house people but for the super rich, in the long run, it absolutely isnt

Brian Goldstone@brian-goldstone.bsky.social

In Georgia, a mom facing eviction reached out to DFCS for help. They offered her nothing. Soon the agency took her kids away because of "inadequate housing." The state then paid *$6,200 a month* to house her kids in foster care. One of the most important and infuriating stories I read this year:

125 kmph is not high speed but anyway. The first 3 hours should be a dance train then the last 5 should be for sleeping it off. 🎹 From Paris to Berlin in every disco I go in...

Philip Oldfield@sustainabletall.bsky.social

It’s over 1,000km from Berlin to Paris There’s now a direct daytime train between them, that takes 8 hours and costs just €59. Leave at 10am, arrive 6pm. And… it’s just 1% the carbon emissions of the equivalent flight www.euronews.com/travel/2024/...

The weight of mammals bread for human consumption v wild mammals is 15 to 1. Yet we see this policy from one of the most environmentally thoughtful nations on the planet. Are we incapable of doing what is required to make our species get back into equilibrium and save the planet?

Wolf Conservation Center 🐺@nywolforg.bsky.social

As we usher in 2025 + look to the future, we're reminded many states + countries are still stuck in the past. Sweden's wolf hunt begins today + they'rey aiming to kill 5 packs (30 wolves). The govt announced in 2024 that they want to decrease the population from 375 to 170.

There's a tradition of film directors and studios congratulating each other for beating their box office records. In 1977, when STAR WARS beat Jaws to become the highest-grossing movie ever, Steven Spielberg took out the below ad for George Lucas in Variety. 1/11

Thanks to the boffins in FBD insurance I can confirm in the future the people of Bray will get that planning permission for a pyramid down the cove sorted out once and for all. Also Gino's will still be open.

A few American eejits don't get joke and a ton of Irish people feel like they need to come to the rescue demanding that Bluesky be cleansed of all eejits because their online pal has to read some stupid replies. Would you all grow up. FFS.

Alan@alanmaguire.bsky.social

Really hoped we’d left behind the people who think every tweet they see is directed at them and also have never encountered a joke before but here they are.

Tradition is never, of itself, enough of a reason to continue doing something. If people find what you are doing repugnant and the only defence you have is that you have always done it. Sorry but you need to stop. Seems obvious but people get away with it all the time.

Can see this becoming extreme with mass laxative purchases made the morning of Dec 31st. But given the consistency I can't see it catching on. #notoiletbrushneeded

BrooklynDad_Defiant!@mmpadellan.bsky.social

My friend just told me "remember to take a poop just before midnight so you don't carry the same shit with you into 2025" and it's the best thing I've heard today! 😂😂😂

Novak is right about this. There needs to be consistency.

Reuters@reuters.com

Novak Djokovic expressed frustration over being ‘kept in the dark’ about Jannik Sinner’s doping case, calling it a bad look for tennis. He questioned the inconsistency and transparency in the way cases are handled reut.rs/4fTt1aN

Sometimes the EU is great.

European Commission@ec.europa.eu

It’s time for THE charger. Today, the USB-C becomes officially the common standard for charging new mobile electronic devices in the EU. It means better-charging technology, reduced e-waste, and less fuss to find the chargers you need! #DigitalEU

My most valuable possession is my monkey Judy. I got her on my second Christmas. I just found out it's a 'Jacko Monkey' Made by Chad Valley toys in the late 70s. I saw pictures of others. Judy is the best. 12/10

The worst thing about capitalism is that the very worst people are the biggest winners. It's literally how it's set up.

God@thegodshow.com

The richest man in the world is alone on Christmas. When it comes to being loved by his family, he’s poor as fuck.

Knocked over to my brother this morning. He was watching UK Border Patrol circa 2008. Nothing says Christmas like salivating over some poor unfortunate being deported back to Pakistan cos he didn't do enough hours in his sham school.

Musk could buy UK citizenship in 24 hours! 😂

Peter Stefanovic@peterstefanovic.bsky.social

This needs to be taken very seriously. All donations that originate from abroad, no matter who is the final donor, should be banned. Only UK citizens should be allowed to donate to British political organisations

Not suggesting this happened for a moment but there is a massive financial interest for any club that pays way over the odds for a player, with a huge wage bill to try to find a reason to be able to get out of that contract.

Mike Finnerty@mikecjf.bsky.social

Calling bollocks on this, if Mudryk took a banned substance we would have noticed if he suddenly became good. He should ask for a refund

Just started a new job and the fizzy drinks are complementary and kitkats are only 80 cent in the vending machine in the canteen. Ah well, I guess that annual Gym membership I bought last month was money wasted.

She doth protest to much. When she does it this much it comes across as doom spiraling.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez@aoc.bsky.social

WE ARE STILL IN THIS. Wipe your tears. This is the difficult business of hope and defying expectation. We do not give up. We run through the tape. Y’all aren’t allowed to throw in the towel until I do. 😉 Big breath. Locked in. Let’s do this.

Prediction. We won't have to pay the 30 billion cause lots of other bigger countries won't hit their targets either.

Rick O'Shea@rickoshea.bsky.social

@fotoole.bsky.social on the nose, as usual. "They will, in essence, be handing over an entire year of our capital budget – the money for all that promised housing and infrastructure we so desperately need – to foreign countries that have managed to get their climate change houses in order."

It's seems counter intuitive but the owner of the most successful electric car company ever never gave a crap about the environment. It was always just an economic play.

Shannon Stirone@shannonstirone.bsky.social

Elon never cared about the climate and never cared about science. If you look at what he did versus what he said they don’t match. People’s actions tell you everything. Shocked to still see folks surprised by his swerves. He’s told you who is he from day 1.
