[Pinned post] Hi! My name is Early! I'm making a cartoon called a Slime at School. It's going to be inspired by 2000s UPA revival cartoons I grew up with. It's a comedy series about a slime kid named Ruby trying to survive at school in a world where supernatural threats make school life dangerous.

I designed the hands where they look like they could be either side. I avoided stuff like fingernails on purpose.

It doesn't help that nerds complain about the Hobbit adaptation just as much as the complain about the Star Wars sequel trilogy, and I'm not particularly obsessed with either series to a major degree.

If you're expecting Glitch Productions quality, give me Glitch Productions money so that I can hire people to do it for me. If you want some pretty UPA revival style still images with voice acting, I can provide a full season of that for you, no trouble.

What I'm gonna make is a series of still shots with voice acting. Rigging this Ruby puppet is difficult enough. Making it look good moving and then doing that for potentially hundreds of other characters is not something I can do. If I'm all alone and all 52 segments remain as animatics, so be it.

To be clear, I am NOT an animator. I'm not animating my cartoon. I'm making a storyboard/animatic for the various episodes. I am not an animator. I'm a writer. You'll get your cartoon, for sure, but don't expect it to be visually impressive. It'll be rough. I'm one person. I need a team to animate.

Yes! This rig is good! I'll be able to make an animatic in no time! I'm gonna have a short done soon. I need to come up with some like, 1 minute scripts. I think quick gags will be how I start the series.

I have Ruby's upper half posable enough to use for simple animatics.

I really wanted to get a good balance of cute and wacky with Ruby's show design. I had to sacrifice the goo drops, because that would be really complex to do with vector, but I added floating drops to her hair.

The problem I have with Buddhism is that I don't get the point of achieving Nirvana when Alice in Chains is better.

One of the rare times one of these doesn't look terrible, because that's just how Deadmau5 looks.

A Slime at School style guide Hair covers eyes. Do not put the outline of the eyes over the hair.

Dark Harvest is the best looking indie cartoon. It really is the one that appeals to me the most, visually.

I want visually striking stuff with experimental storytelling.

By the way, if you wanna know what I want more of in animation, more stuff like Samurai Jack.
