We know the reasons we shouldn’t do this, and we hope our readers don’t associate them with what we’re doing, which is all those things.

New fic: --- pearl --- 👠 1980s NYC stripper au 🚓 double pinky ring cop Ben x angry stripper Rey 🪩 dubious consent ✒️ e, 1/2, 2.3k archiveofourown.org/works/954876...

In the years afterward, Ben gave a good impression of being a normal person. He contributed to life with the Resistance; pitched in to fix a broken X-wings, offered strategy advice (when asked) in meetings with leadership, washed up the caff cups after dinner.

Only she’d heard him, in his worst moments, chanting to himself. A mantra of blame. “It’s all my fault.” What could she say? He’d made choices and he lived with ghosts. No amount of comfort could undo it.

She chased the nightmares away with her body pressed against his, undid the webbing of scars with her caresses. Knelt before him as he rocked back and forth and pressed her forehead to his. She couldn’t tell him he wasn’t to blame. So she just said: “You’re not alone. I’m here.”

Not too much or too little. Not overbearing or reclusive. Only Rey could see it was an act. Because only she was there in the dark when the nightmares gripped him, leaving him sweaty and tangled in hostile sheets. Only she’d seen the matted scars on his back left by Snoke’s “training”.

In a weird mid-career position where I can finally acknowledge that I’m really good at what I do for work, but i still can’t seem to get a full-time job that allows me to do it…

It’s also partly that the industry I work in has been steadily falling apart for years…still easy to feel cheated by the lie that advanced college degrees would equal financial wellness

I’m a Marxist so I don’t accept that this is a personal failing of mine or anything, I understand I’m just being blown about by wider political and economic forces but i still retain the gifted child guilt that I *should* be fulfilling my potential more somehow

I know it’s the economy (stupid) but i still can’t quite accept that my career path will be so wildly unstable in comparison to what boomers had?

That first year, Rey beats Kyla by four minutes. 2 years later, when the gap has closed to 2 mins 40 seconds, they slip to the downtown hotel to shower, change, and go straight to City Hall - well not quite, because Rey insists on grabbing them each a sheaf of flowers from the newsstand.

#sapphicreylo Kyla’s prepped hard for the marathon. She’s trained smart. Optimized. Protein-maxed and hydrated. At the starting line, she runs into Rey wearing a pair of worn-out sneakers. “Here to cheer me on?” Kyla sneers. “No,” Rey smiles, blithely. “Here to beat you.”

#Reylo On the landing pad of a remote jungle Resistance base, a hundred people stand too close, but the silence hangs heavy. Naturally, it’s Poe Dameron who—staring at her companion with unrestrained disdain—breaks it. “Kylo Ren?” Behind her, she hears a soft sigh. Ben. “And everybody cheered.”

How many times in his childhood had Ben been told he was naughty, one way or another? That he was somehow wrong. Now, in group therapy, he sits across from a girl who sobs, wishing she’d had parents to tell her anything, even that. He looks down at the cold cup of coffee in his hands, ashamed.

Days of protests wrack the city. The squares are occupied. Fires lit. Rey joins in. “Make no mistake,” the chief of police tells the cameras, “We will find those responsible for this and prosecute them.” He looks so different from when they were younger (and called each other “sweetheart.”)

Guy talking about how he uses AI to help make his podcast, ends the thread with this. This seems to me like the greatest kind of moral abdication - “I know the harms of this technology and I no longer wish to hear them, only to have my decision to ignore them reinforced.”

I have so much more respect for the person who is having ai forced down their throat by their boss and having to adopt it than whatever this is

Half-way through Han’s memorial, Ben finally breaks down. A little drunk, he leans on Rey and whispers: “Do we believe that we have souls?” “I don’t know,” she says. “But I see him in your eyes.”

It’s months before Rey admits it. It’s no big deal, she just never learned. She still likes the ocean, from afar. Ben insists. He’ll teach her. But when they get in the water she’s shaking. Swimming is too ambitious. He puts a hand under her head and helps her float. After a while, she smiles.
