US companies are compelled to include pay ranges in their job postings due to state/municipal law. This is huge! Beforehand candidates had to respond to "what is your salary expectation" completely blind. The door has been opened and more pay information is available.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Edwin@Work
@edwinatwork.bsky.social

Yes, this is mostly for salary workers, but this also bleeds through to technical, white collar contracting work as well. They can knowingly ask for more because they can find past salary ranges and ask for the upper limit of those ranges.

Edwin@Work
@edwinatwork.bsky.social

The issue was that it was impossible to find pay information. Now companies have to post something and there are websites for folks to share their compensation. Is it perfect? No, but available pay info has goes from nothing to >0% as time passes. That is a good thing.

Anyone want to collaborate? I could do something about editing an anthology, adapting traditional stories to visual novels, making a visual novel as a none writer/artist, or anything related to building credentialing exams.

Quick take: Yes and NO! Yes, networking can happen at any social event. HELL NO b/c it violates the vibe of a furrycon and their ain't no furson who is going to have an opportunity that is local to you.

An aside, we must exert caution when criticizing this booklet as it was created by members of a national culture that differs from the US. Perhaps there are cultural norms at play that are acceptable to the intended audience.

...but that is no excuse for colonialism. The Fandom will change as it is recognized by the main stream, but it will never just be a worthwhile alternative to LinkedIn for job seekers. Go home tourist! Let me enjoy my anthropomorphic hare swimsuit pinups in peace...

This booklet was written in bad faith. There is an intellectual understanding of the Fandom and what it is like to go to a con, but the tone and message is overwhelmingly colonial. These folks show a curiosity in the Fandom, but their intent is to exploit it.

Edwin@Work

A strength of the Fandom is its welcoming and supportive community. Networking works best when it occurs between members of a community (e.g., connecting with alumni from your college). This booklet is not interested in participating in community, just receiving its benefits.

This is a mid-career tip. The transition from individual contributor to manager is a big career step. How common is this "fake out?" It depends on the company and level of the position. Best of luck to those of you trying to change lanes! #furryart #EdwinTip edwinatworklinks.carrd.co
