“Gardening is a way of showing that you believe in tomorrow.” Being relatively new to gardening, I had not heard this saying before, but it resonates, especially in these times. jannelsonlandscapedesign.com/wordpress/20...

Loving California native plants is like being part of the "Cult of the Brown." It's appreciating them in all seasons, including summer when most go dormant. They are resting, and living things are relying them. It's beautiful to see and to watch. eekim.com/2026/08/cult...

One more day to apply to Power and Love for Managers Summer cohort! As past participant Ellen Liu explains, this training can be most valuable when you're trying to get through some complex challenges, even if it feels like you may be too busy. fasterthan20.com/training/pow...

How might we cultivate a culture that balances accountability and kindness? Amanda Hickman shares lessons learned from Power and Love for Managers and how they helped her company with a successful merger. Application deadline for our Summer cohort is this Friday! fasterthan20.com/training/pow...
In NY last month, I saw forsythia everywhere. This past week, my Mom asked my if I knew what 개나리 were. Turns out they're forsythia! Talking about plants led to an emotional conversation about my grandfather, who died when she was 11. eekim.com/2026/05/fors...
In my work, I struggle to get folks to check their goals once they set them. Amanda Hickman pointed me to the practice of putting your goals on a bingo card. I love it. eekim.com/2026/05/goal...

This is a great piece from my dear friend @eekim.com. On the days when I'm feeling pessimistic, I will come back to this line. "When institutions fail us, relationships can still protect us in the short-term and change those institutions in the long-term." fasterthan20.com/2026/05/what...

Nine years ago, I found myself hiking through a Kentucky forest foraging for ginseng with my elderly mom. It was a profound experience, and it got me thinking about the tension between self-reliance and interdependence. fasterthan20.com/2025/11/fora...
I'm old school competitive. I loved the bitter sports rivalries of my day. But I like this better. www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/...
"I may be a Satan-empowered beast with 10 horns and seven heads. I may rise from the sea, take over the world, charismatically criticize God and Christ, persecute believers, and inspire people to tattoo '666' on themselves. "But at least I’m no tech bro." —Antichrist in response to Peter Thiel
My friend, William, created a screencast of him using AI to write an app. That app happens to be for one of my collaboration workouts! www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJBt...
On a related note, I'm also intrigued by the potential for AI to replace traditional strategy consultants, as @jamescham.bsky.social has been talking about for as long as I can remember (even before GPT-3).
I collected some more musings here. eekim.com/2025/10/look...

I haven't played with Context Engineering or vibe coding, so it was interesting to get to watch this. I've been enjoying what @jonudell.bsky.social, @lmorchard.com, Harper Reed, and others have been saying on these topics, though.
My guess is that an experienced engineer could have produced this simple, non-production quality app in about the same amount of time (an hour), but it would be at least an order of magnitude more expensive. There are clearly tradeoffs, but I wonder when the Bitter Lesson comes into play here.

"Faith, it turns out, is also a muscle. I remember why I’m doing my work.... I want people to understand that taking time to make small things — however trivial they might seem — builds our muscles, our faith, our resilience. All of these things are what make big visions possible."
This was my first professional blog post in four years. It was hard to write, but I'm glad it's out there now. I also shared some addendums to the piece in my personal blog.
I also want to shout out Joe Mathew's piece on the Eaton wildfires, which I mention in my addendum. It's raw and rough, but it's the truth we need to be facing right now.

Ian Leslie's notes on growing older, especially the gap between how old we feel and how old we actually are, was very resonant. www.ian-leslie.com/p/27-notes-o... @lizneeley.bsky.social's Meeting the Moment missives are always good, but this week's was particularly resonant. Make sense of things with your people, preferably over good food. Talk through potentially difficult decisions and other things that worry you. Do it in small doses. This is the work.

I have a new piece out about how the House reconciliation bill will harm rural households. Not only will it rural folks lose health coverage & food access, hospitals are more likely to close and businesses will struggle. All for a tax cut skewed towards the wealthy. www.cbpp.org/research/fed...
