When there's some kind of news post about the current demonstrations taking place, whatever you do, don't read the comment section, it'll ruin your mental health. Just phone a friend and be like "fuck yeah isn't this awesome?" and leave it at that.

Congrats to Lula on overcoming Mark Zuckerberg and Donald Trump to defeat Hospital Pervert Jr., even as his opposition literally blocked off roads and turned off bus service during election day. Fascists are scary but they are always, 100% of the time, ultimately gigantic fucking losers.

Danes are a nation of 5 million. They are obsessed with buying organic, non GMO fruits and vegetables, composting and having an overall green society, 50% wind power etc.

If they saw how the Japanese, a nation of 70 million people, wantonly discards any fruit or vegetable that falls outside of the perfect cartoon representation of said fruit/veg, they would promptly give up. The world is crazy y'all.

Typhoon on the way I think this might be a weekend for gaming. I haven't gamed for so long. Too busy "living life" or whatever, time for some good old fashioned video gaming.

Saw a reel explaining opting out of Instagram's umpteenth initiative to steal my work for AI. Followed the instructions which took me to a meta page where I had to provide proof that meta's AI was capable of stealing my work: by creating a meta ai and infringing on my own copyright Burn it down.

The last Movie starring Tom Cruise: in the last movie starring Tom Cruise he gets to live a normal life with a normal wife and a normal dog. It is something he has always fantasized about but time, destiny, momentum never allowed for it. Now he explores the ultimate emotions, subtle and persistent.

Criminals and billionaires feel the same when making money, unfulfilled, as if not truly earning it but telling themselves they have nonetheless. A self reinforcing process that leads to loathing of the world and the self: it is too easy to make money/meaning that way and so it becomes meaningless.

Mathematicians are experiencing it right now, their whole struggle, thus their meaning, becoming moot in the face of AI corporations stealing and building upon their works, regurgitating their thought patterns ad infinitum. AI is the end of meaning and making meaning for humanity.

The same goes for AI art, it will make whoever makes it feel meaningless inside, soulless, making content only for the sake of numbers. For them there is no grain in the paper for the pencil to struggle against and no lungs to strain to blow through the horn, no struggle being equal to no meaning.

How the fuck can Brazilians vote for Bolsonaro 2.0 the second coming of the dictator, when they voted out his corrupt, wannabe Trump dad who went to prison? What the fucking fuck is wrong with people? Are you fucking goldfish???

Being a Scandinavian expat living abroad is not unlike being a high elf roaming middle earth and going "wait what, you guys die?" etc. etc. in relation to how the rest of the world lives/works. It's honestly tripping me up in regards to the intersectionality of growing up working class

It's like I was born with a societal silver spoon up my ass but not a social one. I'm learning middle class codes in a country that is less affluent than my own, but in circles that are more affluent than what I grew up in... idk man, identity and life is confusing.

Yeah, that was pretty much it for my mental breakdown of a couple years ago. Managed to sell the boat, moved into an artist's residency, went and did another residency in New York, spent a summer in Denmark, came back to New York and then started living in Japan.

It's been a year now that I've been living in Japan and two years that I threatened to quit comics, prompting a real who's who of indie comics to come out of the woodwork and offer words of sympathy or objection. Still drawing, never gonna stop drawing, trust me, I've tried, quitting ain't worth it.

another thing that healed me was making this comic about a race driver going through the fucking shit. It came out last year and turned out exactly how I wanted it, which is always nice to know that that's possible and so I never stopped drawing as I'd otherwise threatened to.

then I got a haircut that made me look like a poster boy for nazism and girls started walking into lamp posts around me. Not sure how that works, I'm thinking of growing my hair long again to see if they stop.

things weren't going very well in my life. I had my heart broken, I also literally broke my hand and I was living alone on a boat that I wasn't having any luck selling while fall was fast approaching, which would make living on a boat miserable again (summer was great, spring and winter sucked hard)

didn't stop me from skating and climbing tho, I still did that shi. Stupidly, but also it was all I had to keep me from going insane. That and drawing fucked up fan art that felt not unlike jabbing a finger into the wound and really twisting it around in a nice masochistic sort of way

I feel like like these paintings by Marianne Wiig Storaas, Anna Ancher and Hammershøj encapsulate Scandinavia pretty well. Obsessed with light for the lack of it in winter and its abundance in summer, psychological and interior. Life is slow in the north, plenty time to think, good thoughts and bad.
