Tim Burton’s ‘Sleepy Hollow’ almost turned out much different, and might not have become the absolute Halloween classic it is today. We dig into it on the latest episode of ‘You Are Here: The Time Travel Podcast.’ Apple: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/y... Spotify: open.spotify.com/episode/5k7m...

Trump will veto most of this without hesitation. They should squeeze him with reforms he will look like a moron for vetoing, like banning stock trading by elected federal officials (including themselves) and banning gerrymandering nationally (including themselves). apnews.com/article/midt...

apnews.comHouse Democrats plan a first 100-days agenda if they sweep to power in midterm electionsDemocrats are preparing an ambitious 100-days agenda if they win the House majority in the midterm elections.

Now this is very traditional, very reassuring delusion by a party about to lose an election.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump on the midterms: "We're going to elect a Republican House and a Republican Senate, stop the Dumocrats and the communists and we're gonna do a number like nobody has ever seen. They have a big surprise coming."

Consumer sentiment tanking in October. Certainly looks like news is hitting the ideal timing for Democrats in the midterms.

President Trump announced the establishment of a committee of inquiry to investigate allegations of false statements by Lisa Denell Cook.

Updated my time travel app Déjà Vu — which lets you hold up old photos exactly where they were taken — for iPhone Duo. Unfold to hold up a large-format photo you can compare with the present day.

I'm always tempted to rant about the billionaire scion of an unrelated industry just buying his way into running Hollywood until I remember that the Paramount logo said "A Gulf+Western Company" under it for my entire childhood.

This is right. Pass laws to ban stock trading and corruption, and then dare Trump to look like a moron by vetoing it.

You might have a complex if you wake up and the first thing you think is “is there an international game I could be watching at 9am.”

The stupidest timeline.

Justin Hendrix@justinhendrix.bsky.social

United States President Donald Trump issues executive order instructing federal government agencies to "use the terms 'Super Intelligence' and 'SI' in place of 'Artificial Intelligence' and 'AI' and will not acknowledge the usage of 'Artificial Intelligence' and 'AI' in any applicable setting."

"AI" is in the names of two of the companies.

Justin Hendrix@justinhendrix.bsky.social

Plus, the "White House Accord on Super Intelligence: Joint Commitment on Frontier Responsibilities" signed by Trump, Google's Pichai, Anthropic's Amodei, Meta's Zuckerberg, OpenAI's Brockman, XAI's Musk, Nvida's Huang.

There are sure as hell gonna be Congressional hearings about this one in a few months.

Tom Hearden@followtheh.bsky.social

Really enjoying the clips of Alex Karp clowning around about "warfare AI" the day after the school bombing that killed 150 children in Iran was blamed on Palantir. How 'bout you?

Major thing worth celebrating. In 100 years, Americans who use this every single day to commute will owe it to the people who fought to keep projects like this alive. (And to the failure of people who tried to kill it.)

Today we made history! After years of work, we celebrated the start of tunnel boring for the Hudson Tunnel Project. Reaching this major milestone sends a clear message: we are delivering the reliable, modern rail system riders deserve. Learn more here: www.gatewayprogram.org/wp-content/u...

"It's about star-crossed lovers on a boat sinking. It's okay though! Her boyfriend doesn't freeze to death at the end!"

Ken Jennings@kenjennings.bsky.social

Has anybody written the piece about how movies like Heart of the Beast and Good Dog now have to pre-announce "It's ok, audiences, the dog doesn't die!" Huge cultural shift from just 10-15 yrs ago when audiences who--I promise--LOVED DOGS JUST AS MUCH were perfectly fine with Marley & Me or whatever?

This would be a positive and impressive development in the U.S.'s NATO posture.

Frankly surprised that the three organizations didn’t put out a statement even faster, that it wasn’t a joint statement, and that they don’t have a joint lawsuit filed already.

Not only did I meet Robert Kraft, I worked for him. His kid Jonathan asked me to “remove the black music” from my gameday playlist in ‘94 & I refused so they fired me. I was the cheerleader director at the time. I sued them for wrongful termination and won. So yes, I know that motherfucker.

I’m curious to see others’ custom instructions for AI. A long time ago I told ChatGPT to never talk like a person, and sometimes I forget that others are constantly dealing with a thing pretending to have a personality.
