A massive congratulations to the newest members of UFCW Local 1445 at Theory Wellness who just won their union election! Workers spoke about the issues that led them to form a union and the power they have built in their shop.

This year it is supporting 7 students, including one who chose nursing because of the courage he saw during the pandemic and another who wants to be a dental technician since her junior year, and all 7 are the first in their families to go to college in the United States.

The tide is shifting with BDS on the ballots and city council agendas across our area from Medford and Somerville to Cambridge and Providence. Disclose. Divest. We will not stop, we will not rest. Free Palestine.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out to our volunteer appreciation event! We had bingo, jeopardy, and paper plate awards for all our dedicated team members. Thank you to Rei Da Picanha for hosting and for the delicious food! Belated happy birthday to Felipe, Rei Da Picanha’s storeowner!

Truly such an inspiring conversation to hear from Mahmoud Khalil and Valeria Luiselli. It was powerful to learn about his lived experience and his deep commitment to render visible the horrific inhumanity of detention centers.

Today I had the honor of presenting Jovana Calvillo w the 2026 Latino Excellence on The Hill award for her years of community organizing. Jojo is a daughter of Mexican immigrants, she has spent years organizing alongside various communities, including our immigrant and Palestinian communities.

As a leader with Somerville for Palestine, she helped organize the historic Yes on Question 3, the first boycott and divestment ballot initiative passed by popular vote in US history. Her advocacy spans immigrant rights, Palestinian solidarity, LGBTQ+ rights, housing justice, and workers' rights.

She served as my Campaign Manager for State Senate and will serve as my Chief of Staff, bringing deep community roots and a lifelong commitment to justice to Beacon Hill! Thank you to Massachusetts Black and Latino Legislative Caucus for hosting this event!

Today we celebrate the completion of Waterworks II: 21 new permanently affordable homes for seniors and young disabled residents and the final piece of a 15-year buildout that turned an obsolete 64-unit property and a closed school into 240 units of independent, supportive, and assisted living.

TY to the residents, the Somerville Housing Authority, the Visiting Nurses Association of Somerville and their incredible staff who take immense pride in their work, the city of Somerville, Mass Housing, the advocates and the neighbors who pushed for decades to make today’s accomplishment possible.

This land once belonged to the MWRA and the Legislature conveyed it to the Somerville Housing Authority with the condition that it stay affordable forever, which is exactly what public land is for.

32BJ workers demand: 1. Close the widening gap between the lowest and highest wage earners. 2. Lower disproportionately large percentage of healthcare costs 3. Allow access to legal assistance for civil and immigration issues

Sign up for one (or two, or three) more volunteer shift/s with Erika then come celebrate all our hard work at Sally O'Brien's for an election night watch party. WHEN WE FIGHT WE WIN. See you at 8 PM after polls close on Tuesday.

This week in late stage capitalism: the same tech billionaires bankrolling MAGA want to build data centers across MA. Nobody on Beacon Hill has written a single rule stopping those servers from powering ICE deportations or Flock camera stops of innocent drivers over a misread plate.

The Governor's office floated a juicy tax break for data centers and only pulled it after Erika raised the alarm on the state's AI contracts, which is exactly the kind of pressure this district needs in the State Senate.

For decades, most votes on Beacon Hill happened behind closed doors, and I led the fight to change that by putting every committee vote on the record. Transparency is how we fought to lower your energy bills, protected immigrants from ICE.

Taxed corporate greed to fund housing, Medicare for All, and a livable climate. I’m running to be your Democratic State Senator, and I’m asking for your vote on Tuesday, September 1.

Here's how to find a guy who can afford rent in MA: ⚡ Utility company execs charging us the highest rates in the US 💻 Largest corporations with offshore assets getting a 95% tax exemption 🏥 Health insurers charging us the highest premiums and out of pocket costs in the country

Take your pick! Or vote for me in the Tuesday September 1 primary, early voting is from August 22 to 28, so we can have: ✅ Publicly owned renewable energy ✅ Tax the rich ✅ Medicare for all

At 55 Hudson Street in Chinatown, 110 permanently affordable homes are going above a new public library, and they prove the other model works: a one-time developer fee written into the budget, union labor with real pensions, buildings that don't burn gas, and rents around $2,100 instead of $4,000.

he money is there. Here's a list of ways we can raise the revenue to build permanently affordable homes: 💰 $3B = double millionaire's tax 💰 $1B = remove offshore asset tax exemption 💰 $1B = surtax on excessive CEO pay 💰 $500M = Digital ad tax

Over 30 years, a family renting a market-rate two-bedroom pays more than a million dollars beyond what the same family pays in a permanently affordable home, and every dollar of that difference goes to investors.

MA is now the most expensive state in the country to grow old. In Somerville, older neighbors on fixed incomes of about $30,000 a year face costs over $37,000 just to stay in the community they built. 60% of our residents over 65 who live alone cannot cover their basic needs.

Medicare for All is needed to help ensure everyone can afford to live in MA. It will include dental, vision, hearing, and long-term care that Medicare leaves out, with no premiums, no deductibles, and no copays, and it saves Massachusetts nearly 30 billion dollars a year.

For the first time in 30 years, this bill advanced out of committee. That's why I'm running for State Senate to pass Medicare for All in Massachusetts and ensure everyone can afford to live and thrive in our communities. Learn more at: electerika.com/newsletters

Suppliers charged MA households a 43% markup on electricity ⚡️ for ten straight years, and the difference went into their profits. 😱🤯 Erika is fighting for public power so your bill reflects what electricity actually costs. That’s what is at stake in this election. Vote for Erika Tuesday Sept 1 🗳

I’m so deeply humbled and proud to have the support of educators and the largest union in New England since we launched my State Senate campaign. Thank you to Megan from the Somerville Educators Union for your beautiful speech.
