This week, a voter called our customer service line to report seeing ballots in a dumpster. Our staff went to investigate and found two bins of stolen mail in a dumpster at Golden Gardens, including some undelivered ballots.

Unfortunately, mail gets stolen, including during every Election Season. Our partners in law enforcement tell us ballots aren't typically the target during a mail theft - which is why they're left behind after thieves get the mail they were after.

We're biased ofc but we do love when folks make their voices heard.

Only 1 in 10 registered King County voters has returned their ballot for the August 4 Primary. That means there’s still time to make your voice heard. Need help learning about the candidates running in Seattle and King County? Check out our Video Voters’ Guide: seattlechannel.org/elections

This is Steve. Steve leads our drop box program at King County Elections, and encourages voters - especially after today - to return their ballots to one of more than 90 secure official ballot drop boxes around the county. When your ballot is in a drop box you know it’s on time. Kce.wiki/DropBox

Thank you to @cip.uw.edu for helping kick off 2026 Election Season with a thoughtful conversation between Dr. Kate Starbird and Director Wise last night. We were glad to listen in as they talked about online rumors and shared the reality of how elections in King County actually work!

King County voters whose ballots are postmarked by Election Day will continue to be able to have their votes counted. Want to register or update your registration? Visit VoteWA.gov Ballots for the August Primary will be mailed to registered King County voters on July 15.

Kent voters! There’s a new official ballot drop box outside Kent Kangley Safeway. When the box was installed yesterday, I learned we can switch which side the door is on, so trained ballot pickup teams can access the box safely and securely.

Thanks to @kcls.org and the Family Life Center in Federal Way for partnering with us on three Accessible Voting Events during the February Special Election. Elections staff will be on hand to provide customer service and assist people with an Accessible Voting Unit (AVU).
