the process for those interested. I used retropixels to do the initial raw -> dithered images (each 7colors), though I am working very very slowly on my own Quantizer which will replace this workflow in the future

I'm going to be running a class on using Search Engines and tools to help you get better and more useful results when searching for a specific topic sometime within the next month or two, if that sounds interesting to you please fill out this form: forms.gle/5ikRbB3ypgZh...

the more I get smoother and smoother scrolling working on the c64 the more I want to make a dungeon crawling engine in it, but like, I'm also in no position to make a game rn, I'm already working with other artists on stuff and have my own vision for where I'm taking this. food for thought though!

C64DR004 - YU-NO Barrel Scroller The screen on the Commodore64 is only 320x200, but that’s not enough for me so I fit a 2048x1024 bitmap in there… TWICE!

The program sweeps the images and switches zoom profiles based on viewport velocity and the viewport itself has a neat CRT-style barrel lens filter that distorts the corner pixels. It’s a bit crude, but the techniques that allow all this to happen are months in the making, so I’m really quite proud!

Finally I got smooth scrolling working, which I know sounds pretty mundane, but you gotta understand how hard this is to do on old computers, this is gonna let me do a bunch of cool things going forward I'm really pumped

the video fails to really do the motion justice but it’s taken sooooo long to get this technique right. this is a real classic computing problem and I got to solve it myself (with the help of 40+ years of documentation, i don’t deny standing on the shoulders of giants)

webdevs, now is your chance to start a non-profit to end src btw, it's not gonna be me though, i wrote enough typescript this summer for a lifetime, also i HATE leaderboards!

also in regards to speedrun dot cum, I will be actively defying the new ToS and mirroring leaderboards on my own website. SRC and Pac__ can suck my dick any day of the week.

I appreciate that bluesky is like a nice quiet hugbox for left of center people, i really do, but having to post shit multiple times because I still have to use twitter is fucking annoying as shit. And yes, I do have to use twitter even if it is an objectively worse UX w/ the worst ppl in the world.

everyone is complaining about new firefox and I really don't get it as far as the UI in concerned oh boohoo we have ovals instead of rectangles now, the UX is identical like why you care bruh

I'm ngl, this summer was a really hopeless time for me, lots of tragedy and loss, but I'm excited and hopeful for the future now at least as far as like doing cool art and engineering things. All we can do at the end of the day is do what we can and do our best, that's life

it's so crazy remember when speedrunning was about really sinking your teeth into a game you loved and making new friends and now it's an easy marketing tool for indie devs and platform for streamers and youtubers to try and profit from what happened it wasn't this bad before 2020 i swear

i’m sorry i’m neglecting the wiki for a bit, but programming the 6510 is so fun and spending 2 months in javascript land has left me bitter, i’ll get around to the final features soon i promise

if i have to hear another one of my higher ups tell me that microservices are a great idea for their product that serves a whole 10 people because “google does it that way” i’m going to actually jump out a goddam window
