🚨 It's klaxon time again! 🚨 We've reached the 40,000th object in our Inventory Project! Our milestone item is ELGNM: 1957.60.7, a decorated pottery sherd dating to the Early Bronze Age. It is 1 of 8 pottery sherds of an EBA beaker recovered from a cist discovered near Hopeman in 1866.

One of the first on the scene of the discovery was Lady Sophia Dunbar, artist, traveller, amateur archaeologist – something of a polymath! She wrote to a friend about the discovery and made sketches - now sadly lost. Read more: storymaps.arcgis.com/collections/...

Ken Glennie was extremely well known & well respected in geological circles, and his book Introduction to the Petroleum Geology of the North Sea was an inspiration to many. 4/5 #ScottishGeology

After a long career at Shell he became an honorary professor at the University of Aberdeen in 1995, where he shared his knowledge and passion for the subject with both students and staff. The conference was a fitting memorial to a geological legend. 5/5 #ScottishGeology

After a day of lectures, the group travelled to Elgin Museum for an opportunity to view and discuss our Recognised Collection with our Geology Group Volunteers. We were delighted to welcome the group, and Ken's family, to the museum! 2/5 #ScottishGeology
