It amazes me how gentle they are with them. This was Cruella struggling to get a raw egg in her mouth. She managed it, but it's a tight fit

1/ There was a lengthy discussion about the closure of St Mark’s Bridge at Monday’s LCCC meeting. The Council has produced a detailed briefing, almost 4 months after closure. We welcome that. It makes clear why officers believed the bridge had to be closed immediately on safety grounds. But ..

Wolves and red pandas and flamingos, oh my! The Omni Centre at the top of Leith Walk is showing a wee preview of the Holiday Lanterns, coming soon to Edinburgh Zoo!

Slightly misleading paragraph re St Mark's Path bridge. The cost means they have to put in for 2027's budget (as expected) rather than just crack on. That's why the prospective date is 2028 (not new, not delayed, just not soon).

Well it wasn’t misty or foggy, though all the apps insisted it was. It was clear and frosty. Here’s Orion over Newhaven Harbour

Apparently the £2.2 million @edinburghcouncil.bsky.social reckon they need for a St Mark's Path bridge, may be a bargain. This Oxford Bridge took 3 years and cost £237 million. It does carry the trains as well as people/bikes. And they lowered the road www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/2656585...

It feels incumbent on the council to explain at this point — with this public briefing note being out there especially — to explain not only footing these costs, but also to explain why there's no mention of a utilities bridge being proposed to avoid exactly this scenario and cost in the future...

This is too common an attitude. GenAI isn't inevitable, it's just being forced on us everywhere to support the insane, economy-melting edifice that's bene build on the dream of it ever being profitable.

Nick Harkaway@nickharkaway.com

I think the problem here is that this is the document you arrive at if you're starting from the position that AI is inexorable and needs to be bounded within the creative industries so that we can all draw breath and work out WTF is going on, and you're trying to be reasonable and responsible.

Detailed study of the dissemination of the spinach decimal point error, which was repeated thousands of times, convincing millions that spinach was a great source of iron compared to other veggies, all faked but caused by citing citations of citations without checking.

Alfie Kohn@alfiekohn.bsky.social

Fascinating account showing how a false claim can become widely accepted (and propagated by multiple independent sources) as a result of a common academic shortcut: citing a source you haven't actually read after seeing it cited by another source: journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10....
