What the sign cannot fit: a sympathetic judge handed Hitler the lightest sentence the law allowed for high treason. He served nine months. The danger was never only the man. It was a system that refused to take him seriously until it was too late.

But democracy isn’t a movie where one hero saves the day. It is more like maintaining a garden. No individual watering can changes the landscape overnight. Yet if thousands of people stop watering because they think it makes no difference, the garden really does die. (chatGPT)

In 1922, insulin co-discoverer Frederick Banting refused to profit from the discovery and offered it to the world as a global public good. Today, many people with diabetes still don't have access to affordable and quality treatment and care.

I know the credit to stop the war are all for you that today left us prematurely. Thank you #AlvaroVitali Una risata li seppellirà! Ciao Pierino

"Ethnicity data"? Based on/defined as what, exactly? Self-identification? Nationality of >2 grandparents? Colour charts? And who decides the categories? We've been down this road before, and it's called 'scientific racism'. It was wicked nonsense. Rebranding it as 'ethnicity' makes it no better.

I am reporting on the Casey review into grooming gangs and will have an in-depth report out later, but briefly highlighting this conclusion: "The ethnicity data collected for victims and perpetrators is not sufficient to allow any conclusions to be drawn at the national level."

The combination of Oligarchy, authoritarianism and Big Tech are an extraordinary threat to democracy and the future of humanity. We must not allow Musk, Trump, Mohammed bin Salman and other Oligarchs shape the future of our world.

Medicare for All means Medicare for ALL — not some, or a few, or most. Health care is a human right. Every other major country recognizes that. It's long past time the United States does as well.

In Trump's first 100 days, he alienated us from our allies, crashed the stock market, decimated U.S. cancer research, expelled American toddlers, lost the Canadian election by proxy, and threatened your Social Security checks. But at least he focused on the important stuff.

Next time you ask why didn’t she speak out sooner or at all. Women know what’s at risk to go up against ordinary men; now multiply that by infinity for the powerful man. Rest in power, brave Virginia.

Workers are not asking to get rich. They just want to afford three meals a day. In the richest country in the history of the world, no one should work for starvation wages. It is time to raise the disgraceful $7.25/hr federal minimum wage to a living wage of AT LEAST $17/hr.

Pope Francis was a visionary leader who dedicated his life to service and justice. He encouraged us to protect our planet, championed a more inclusive church, and cared for all of God’s children — especially the most vulnerable among us. Doug and I join the world in mourning his loss.
