Today Ross Douthat platforms a powerful German man on a quest to "maximize" humans. And doesn't see, or doesn't ask about, the obvious precedent. We've seen this film. It doesn't end well. #historysky #skystorians

Interesting, Claude! OTOH, a team in Berlin also built a place to kill my grandmother. #TrustTheProcess #TechInnovation #AIpocalypse

I hope the #Canvas hackers snagged my exam question about a Canvas #hack and are now trapped in a recursive spiral. #CanvasHack

Interested in how an influential amicus curiae brief comes together? Joining me in this webinar are Rachel Grossman and John Nakahata from the firm that represented me & Larry Oda, whose personal story of birthright citizenship the brief narrates. apiavote.org/birthright-w... #lawsky #academicsky

Enjoyable to watch? Absolutely! Courageous? For sure! Unprecedented? Hardly! The stuff of "awe?" Depends on your perspective. Awe was what I felt watching this as a kid. What I felt this time was "nostalgia," or maybe "deja vu."

Artemis II was overshadowed by other bad things in the news but what it accomplished was frankly amazing. We are capable of incredible and unprecedented things. I’m in awe at how far we safely sent humans into space.

You all know he'll claim A DEAL just before the civilization-obliteration deadline, right? Regardless of whether there's actually a deal? Right?

Dear Chief Justice Roberts, is threatening the death of a civilization within the scope of the President's Article II absolute immunity? Or just his presumptive immunity? Asking for a nation. #lawsky

Like most everyone else, I see the government losing in today's #birthright #citizenship case. And it's braggy to note this, but this is such a rare thing that I'm going to do it anyway: My amicus curiae brief got *two* call-outs in the courtroom this morning. Kind of a dream come true.

Justice Alito should bring this sensibility to his effective assistance of counsel jurisprudence!

You cannot make this shit up — UNC is hosting an “AI for the Public Good” conference. Tickets for this event, conceived of and held at a publicly funded university, are $250. 🙃

What an odd take. I've been on college campuses since 1994. There have been countless events worthy of big protests over that time -- and almost no sizable protests. The question is the opposite of the one this piece asks: why has there been only one seize-the-campus-style protest in decades?

The Atlantic@theatlantic.com

“The events of the past three months seem almost perfectly engineered to spark campus unrest,” Rose Horowitch argues. “But campuses across the country—places where students colonized the quad to protest Israel’s war against Hamas—are strangely silent.”

Pssst, hey, you, thinking about #lawschool? Let me fill you in on something. The so-called "socratic method" in most of your classes will really just be a reading quiz. With your reading assignment open in front of you.

Until this, my 64th turn around the sun, I'd had one encounter w/ out-loud antisemitism. In a store, a salesman accused a guy of trying to "Jew" him on a price. In the last 6 weeks I've had three. All conventional anti-Jewish things. None of them about Israel, Gaza, etc. Something has shifted.

SCOOP: Federal judiciary approves new Supreme Court defender office to help represent indigent defendants at #SCOTUS. Its full-time director will serve as a counterweight to the U.S. solicitor general in federal criminal cases. The first will be former Kagan clerk and SG atty Ashley Robertson.

The history of Japanese American incarceration is not a morality play about bad men thwarting good ones. It is a story of ordinary officials—some better, some worse—operating within institutions that rewarded racism, fear, ambition, and deference to military authority.

Yesterday I filed an #AmicusCuriae brief at #SCOTUS in the birthright citizenship case. It presents stories of 3 families of Japanese ancestry--w/o legal allegiance to the USA--to show citizenship derives from birth on US soil, not parental loyalties. #lawsky #skystorians tinyurl.com/3hy76638

The gov't argues that only parents w/allegiance to the USA can give birth to US citizens. If allegiance mattered, you'd think it would've mattered most in WWII, a moment of crisis in allegiance. But it didn't. Interned parents w/no allegiance to USA gave birth to babies recognized as US citizens.
