I didn’t have a smart phone until 2017 & I just thought about how I would write long emails to people a few times a year, thinking I was “keeping in touch”. Meanwhile they were all texting each other weekly on WhatsApp, confused by those weird newsletters from that girl they used to know 💀

The more I learn about ABA the more concerned I am. Been spending an awful lot of time in ABA forums, I have hundreds of screenshots detailing abuse of clients & workers. At least in the US, this is a crisis of enormous scale. And countless children are paying the price.

I’m not going to share the worst cases of abuse I saw until the video, as I don’t want to blow my cover. But it’s bad. Children being forced to sit on toilets for hours until they go. Kids being physically assaulted & neglected. Staff facing theft & having their physical & mental health ruined.

They’ve got untrained babies thrown in the deep end with extremely vulnerable children. Even if this approach was as sound as they claim (it isn’t) this is obviously a recipe for disaster. The number of times I’ve read “I get no support from the company/BCBA” is frightening. It’s a wild west.

Having to rethink my life. Making video essays means many days sitting at the PC, which means I’m doing everything else in bursts. I’m no a multitasker, I’ve tried. But this really isn’t sustainable.

I haven’t said owt about Jacob Geller because that was the first I had heard of him. But I hope everyone who was close to him is ok. I’ve seen the threads, the statements & the responses. As a survivor of multiple assaults, including rape, I really wish we didn’t have to have debates every time.

This is true of all marginalised groups. I think sometimes we have a preoccupation with reducing the Silly Things Said Online Quota in our ranks, under some vague idea that our political opponents will “use it against us”. But if we never said owt silly, they’d just lie. Making stuff up is easy.

I’ve been making videos for almost 7 years now & I have never, not once, earned the minimum taxable income. In my best year, I still made less than half the minimum wage (all revenue streams including Patreon). I was really hoping this one would bring in some cash before the slow season 💀
