Excited to have contributed the spatial modeling for this study, out today in Nature! Via Monte Carlo tests & logistic regression, we show a water + stone dual-resource model better predicts Middle Paleolithic site locations than water alone, with implications for early human dispersal

Climate records show when Arabia turned green. Our new @nature.com paper asks what else MP humans needed, stones for lithic tools. Using the Rub' al Khali as a case study, with years of work in southern Arabia, we show people settled where water and stone met. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Our results show that Neanderthals likely dispersed via a northern route through the Ural Mountains and southern Siberia during warmer climatic periods (MIS 5e, MIS 3). Neanderthals could have reached the Altai relatively quickly by following river valleys.
