Hey Tambre! Good to see you here. Sadly, too many have missed out on a valuable resource mainly due to the name. The way it should be presented to the #AYAcancer and general cancer community matters should be simplified. That doesn’t diminish the support it can provide. #ayacsm

I disagree because the name as is doesn’t resonate with the community. Why keep pushing something that most don’t understand or scared to understand? I think the research and medical community forget that patients need clear language because we’re just trying to survive. #ayacsm

A4: We definitely need more action & access for the AYA gyn community. We can’t have innovation without diversity. How can we take action when the decision-makers are mostly ⚪️ and not bringing minoritized communities to the table. I’m tired of being the ONLY Black person in too many rooms. #ayacsm

We need to change the name #palliativecare to #supportivecare. I was in palliative care for 2 years due to excruciating pain and complications post-cancer. That term palliative care didn’t resonate then or now. #ayacsm

Unfortunately, I think there are a multitude of answers for this question. One thing that I think about often is #palliativecare and finding ways that are meaningful to connect with AYAs in this rapidly changing health communications landscape. #AYACSM

Q3: #AYACSM Absolutely! Social media has/is extremely helpful in innovation ! Case in point - the chats! We learn so much from each other! And the connections/conversations can spark that innovation to a wider audience & new ideas!

A1: Are there any AYA patients/survivors on any of the panels? The last time I served on a panel there, I was the ONLY survivor on any panel.

Q2: #AYACSM I think we’re always looking for the big things (new tech or digital tools) but I’ve found paying attention to the details can be just as innovative! An easier way to structure/schedule appts can be just as innovative if they help improve patient experience

Dr. Emily Drake@emilydrake.ca

How can we make innovation a part of our daily way of thinking? #AYACSM

When I think of this question, I think back to how #AYACSM came to be as a distinct oncology population due to a grassroots movement. I think that for many of us, innovation is at the heart of our mission.

For those of you new to #AYACSM this month, we normally gather for a live chat at 8pm ET on the first Tuesday of the month. We discuss topics that are relevant and timely for those advocating for #AYACancer patients.

Our #AYACSM chats are for advocates involved in the adolescent and young adult cancer societal movement – but anyone can join. An advocate is anyone who speaks, writes or in other ways actively supports the AYA cancer movement as a whole #AYACSM

Welcome to the #AYACSM (Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Societal Movement) #SkyChat! This year we are celebrating 12 YEARS OF #AYACSM CHATS!! July was our anniversary month!!

Q3: #AYACSM Love this idea! Great campaign from our friends down under & the education starts very early due to the high incidence of skin cancers in Australia

Dr. Emily Drake@emilydrake.ca

All the gear, multiple sunscreen bottles - it adds up for people and families who are already stretched thin with rising costs. In Australia - there are some public sunscreen dispensers! Public infrastructure could make a huge difference for people #AYACSM

It very well could be. And I'm all for trying anything. I just know that I wouldn't have paid any attention to it in my 20s, but that's just me. #AYACSM

I think a large part of it is the feeling of being invincible. There's a reason why "I'm too young for this" was so popular a few decades ago. #AYACSM

A2. Again, this is one of those challenging questions. I think once we get diagnosed, we are likely to avoid exposure to additional cancers. But until then, IDK how receptive people are to hearing don't do this or that so you don't develop cancer #AYACSM
