While Ed can’t make #Nido2026, the lab is well-represented by Max Erdmann, and @rebee.bsky.social ! They will be sharing some of the labs findings on coronavirus replication! Catch Max’s talk tomorrow (Wed) at 3:25, and Rebee’s poster C-0036

In other lab news, Ed was promoted to Professor of Virology & Proteomics. Huge thanks to the team for all their work and support! And to the various mentors and supporters who have helped along the way. We have lots more exciting science coming in the near future!

For those who missed the British science festival in September, the recordings and mini documentary for antiviral roller skating are now out!

🚨 Big news! We’re thrilled to announce the release of both the Behind-the-Scenes Mini-Doc and the Full Recording of Antiviral Roller Skating! 🛼✨ Now you can watch the mini-doc to see how it all came together behind the scenes: youtu.be/0nevSD1wrdg And the full performance: youtu.be/mp995EBB3Bo

Markella introduces the preprint in her thread here: bsky.app/profile/biom...

I’m excited to share our preprint introducing scpImaging, a workflow we developed to improve data quality in single-cell proteomics (SCP) by repurposing the microscopy images generated during cell isolation with the cellenONE platform www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

Led by @idb-virology.bsky.social, the lab is contributing to #BSF25 with a performance of antiviral roller skating! Working with Liverpool roller birds, and supported by the BSF and @microbiologysociety.org

Nikolai and his group are based at Northeastern University and have been pioneers in the field of single cell proteomics. He will talk about the methods his lab has worked on for multiplexed approaches in SCP, including plexDIA

The deadlines for our MRC-funded studentships have now passed, but a funded studentship through the BBSRC NWD DLA is now available for Oct 2025 start in single cell mass spectrometry. See findaphd for more details or drop Ed an email. www.findaphd.com/phds/project...

Reminder - if you are a new PI in UK virology and you aren’t yet registered for RIVR2025 on Jan9-10th in Liverpool, registration closes on December 5th! If you are a new group leader in virology in the UK and aren’t yet on the RIVR mailing list, get in touch to be added.

We have two funded PhD studentships available through DiMeN_DTP programme for Oct2025 Standard_2025_127: Understanding the mechanisms of norovirus replication (Dr Edward Emmot) Standard_2025_71: Widening the ‘NET’ to identify new treatments for bronchiectasis (Dr Helen Wright)

Just to warn we do not have any positions available in our lab- some fraudulent adverts are being circulated on LinkedIn and possibly elsewhere - the link to the lab website is real but all the links below and the details are all fake.

These positions are now available to apply for! - see thread below!
