@wsj.com created controversy saying Flanagan inflated her academic record when she said a decade ago she graduated Phi Beta Kappa. Flanagan said she was invited but didn't pay the fee for it. WSJ was skeptical. Now Phi Beta Kappa confirms her original claim. And WSJ acts like SHE reversed herself.

Icing on the case, the WSJ story acts like Flanagan is faking Native American ancestry because her Ojibwe biological father didn't raise her, and her stepfather was not Native. Completely made up controversies by the @wsj.com while Flanagan has been consistent throughout.

I said I'd subscribe to WSJ for their good reporting if they'd let me conceal the headlines for their idiotic editorials. Well, they won't, but I did anyway. And sure enough, after United's CEO endorsed a wealth tax and nearly 100% inheritance task recently, I was faced with a painfully stupid one:

After seeing the outrageous ad with Amy Acton's mother, I wondered how old she (the mother) is. AI search to the rescue!

Here's a story about how Republican gerrymandering and the Democratic establishment defeated one of the challengers I supported in Florida. Elijah Manley was defeated by Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the epitome of entrenched establishment politicians. www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-i...

It's October and all the primaries are over. For the past 18 months I've been donating $1000 to a different challenger for Congress each month. How's it gone? Well, most of them didn't win, but they helped move the races toward more reform and many are campaigning for the new nominees. No regrets!

Just asked Google Cloud about "super intelligence". Glad to report that it doesn't (yet) recognize that term, despite Sundar groveling to Trump. I'm glad I'm no longer a Googler - the company lost what passes for a corporation's soul years ago.

In addition to the candidates above, I donated another $4500 to candidates I specifically know and support. $22,500 is a LOT of money for me, but if it helped chipped away against America's slide into authoritarianism it is well worth it. The general election is November 2. GET OUT AND VOTE!

The two who won nomination are Peggy Flanagan, for MN Senator and Josh Turek for IA Senate. Great candidates with good shots. I also supported Leaders We Deserve which got 34 challengers nominated. The others, who I expect to see leading and winning in the future are:

I was called for jury duty on a death penalty case, and the attempt to "death qualify" me killed any possible acceptance of executions. Want to execute somebody? Duct tape a pound of C4 to the back of their head and set it off. They won't feel a thing. Too messy for you? THEN DON'T EXECUTE PEOPLE.

Mike Sacks@mikesacks.bsky.social

“Firing squad?!” you say? It’s at once more violent (which is why the Trump admin is now pushing for it and death penalty abolitionists want us to see it) and more humane for the executed (which is why they’re requesting it) than lethal injection’s faux-medically sanitized torture.

Man, I wish I could sign up for the @jococruise.bsky.social thanks to their adding Simone Giertz. But I can't. Because I'm already signed up!

17 years older, and it's down to 2 for me. And only because of news stories about their controversies. Which I don't know anything about, either.

Keith Law@keithlaw.bsky.social

I've heard of 9, and I'm 53 years old, I have no idea if I even *want* a higher score

Why did the unnamed negative political group send this to us? My wife's name is White, but she would never vote for a Republican! Oh, I get it. They sent it to "The White Household". I hadn't realized Trump had issued another executive order directing USPS to preference delivery by race!

"Unitary Executive" is just a longer way to say "Dictator".

Craig Harrington@craigipedia.bsky.social

As @brianbeutler.bsky.social argued, the next Democratic president should send bulldozers to the Supreme Court and tell them they have 15 minutes to decide if the Unitary Executive Theory is real.

Dolly’s final gift. At a time of extreme ugliness and hate, she has inspired an outpouring of love. It’s still out there, folks. Nowadays, that can be easy to forget.

True. And this is also why we should be happy along with sad today, because she lived a great, full life, contributing joy and lifting up others. And set things up so that even after passing she continues to help others. A third of a billion books given to children so far is almost the least of it.

I think the universal grieving comes in no small part from the fact she represented the best of what America could be, and that she never stopped chasing that ideal, artistically and socially

The reemergence of completely open racism, bigotry of all kinds, and even Nazi-ism is horrible. Muslims have done nothing to deserve this hatred. People point to extremists, forgetting that EVERY RELIGION and almost every philosophy has had extremists. It doesn't make their mainstreams evil!

nytimes.comHow Islamophobia Moved From the Fringe to the Mainstream in Texas (Gift Article)Muslim communities have been growing for decades, particularly around Dallas. Now, conservatives want to roll up the welcome mat.

Okay, @mcuban.bsky.social, this would require more taxes, ideally diverting current healthcare expenditures to them, but do you think it would work? Our current system is clearly extremely wasteful - is there enough waste to just cover everyone instead?

Jen Taub@jentaub.bsky.social

“A single-payer universal health care system could cover every American, save more than 100,000 lives a year, and still cost $1 trillion less than the system it would replace, according to a new preprint study led by researchers at the Yale School of Public Health.” ysph.yale.edu/news-article...

A lot of people are making fun of this headline because Trump is so unpopular. They misunderstand. The "art" in defending him isn't SUCCEEDING in defending him, it's KEEPING A STRAIGHT FACE while "defending" the indefensible. And Leavitt is the all time GOAT at that.

Dear Google (and @developers.google.com, etc.): they way you have decided to tie Messages for Web to my PHONE is idiotic. The WHOLE POINT of Messages for Web is to use when I DON'T have my phone to hand! This product manager is absolutely NOT as smart as they think they are.

There are just two more months in the primary calendar! For this penultimate month, I'm donating $1000 to Kaela Berg, running for Minnesota's 2nd Congressional District. She's a flight attendant and a union leader, is a Minnesota State Rep and ready to shake up the US House. kaelaforcongress.com

This is a tough month with lots of great primary candidates. I decided on Kaela Berg instead of Leela Gray for Florida's 13th district because Gray has a smaller field of opponents and (I hope) will do well even without my donation. FL-13 is my sister's district, so I hope I'm right! leelagray.com

I wish local Amazon logistics managed deliveries better. Almost every delivery starts out this way: - Out for delivery by 11:30 - Now between noon and 1:30 - Now between 2 and 4 - and now? Between 4:15 and 6:15 Sometimes they go to between 9 PM and 11 before giving up and saying "tomorrow". Maybe.

Tried watching Trump speaking, but I couldn't follow any of it. Run-on sentences, non-sequiturs, slurred words, and a droning monotone. How will this push his followers? I guess his operatives will come up with sound bytes and claim he said them.

UTC only for the win. If we're going to uncouple the idea of 12 noon having the sun near zenith, then let's go all the way. New Yorkers, who seem to start work late anyway, can head the office around 15:00Z. While we're out, ISO 8601 date formats for EVERYTHING.

When elected officials swear to uphold the constitution, I want them to do it in writing, reading each paragraph out loud in public and initializing each one in blood (okay, in indelible ink). They should at least KNOW what they are swearing an oath to. It's clearly the only way they will.
