Does anyone think the Phillies have the plate discipline to take 75 pitches from Yamamoto in 3 innings??

Jeff Passan Bot@jeffpassanbot.bsky.social

Impressive sequence from the Brewers. Jake Bauers fouled off six straight pitches and worked a 12-pitch walk against Yoshinobu Yamamoto to load the bases. Then Christian Yelich popped a two-run single up the middle. Brewers lead, 3-2, and Yamamoto is done. It's the third inning.

I absolutely treasured bedtime reading with my kids and cursed the days they started reading on their own and it stopped. And I don’t think I’m alone feeling that way.

It's telling that men would rather try to invent tech to replace humans' role in caregiving than step up as equal partners in parenting. Telling, that is, in that it shows how financial capitalism and patriarchy work together to dissuade men from doing "unprofitable" labor, like the work of care.

This is fine. If the government owns the land, the next Dem president can turn it into a data center. Trump loves those.

About 95% of France's power is generated by low-carbon, non-fossil fuel sources. Now it appears their auto sector is also de-carbonizing. I don't know but it could be a reason you never see France stuck in wars in the Middle East.

Good morning with good news: France's September Full-EV sales reach 42% of auto sales. Full-EV sales skyrocket 108% in September! Full-EV and Plug-In Hybrid were 48% of auto sales! Petrol-only cars were just 13% and diesel collapsed to 2.4%! www.aaa-data.fr/actualites/i... #energysky

Today made second half of tonight‘s dinner. About 60 mini ravioli filled with braised beef short rib. Pasta cooked in about 2 minutes and finished in a simple butter sauce. Recipe from Marc Vetri’s cookbook: The Pasta Book. Dinner was phenomenal. Want to make every recipe in this thing.

Today I made 60-70 francobolli (mini ravioli about 1.25” square) filled with a celery root puree for tomorrow’s dinner. There is definitely a learning curve working with fresh pasta but by the end, I was getting the hang of it.

I stand by this take.

Unpopular take: Starting to think the best thing that can happen to the Phillies is they lose these last few games, miss the playoffs, and don't sign Dombrowski to an extension this offseason. $300 million payroll that can't score and has a bullpen with 2 arms. (you've thought it too.)

He still thinks he's running a real estate development company. His grasp of basic economics is severely limited. Can't wait for all the tell-all memoirs in a few years talking about how they tried to explain deficits to him with red and blue m&m's but could never quite break through.

Julian Sanchez@normative.bsky.social

Obviously none of this is true, but incidentally: It is wild to talk about tax revenue as “profits.”

my take on the iced coffee conversation, personally, is that i'd just prefer not being in an office with someone who'd care that someone brought an iced coffee to an interview.

Great list. Currently very intrigued by the Slate truck but my kids are nostalgic for vintage off road vehicles and vans. 🤷‍♀️

In theory, if folks are being signed up without them knowing it so health insurance companies can pocket their subsidies, the IRS should be able to flag that when those folks don't include forms 1095-A or 8962 in their taxes and the IRS starts asking for the subsidies to be paid back.

View full thread

And if you get an ACA subsidy, the exchange will send you a form 1095-A at the end of the year that you must include with your taxes (through form 8962) that breaks down what you paid and if you got a subsidy. If your final income is higher than the estimate you gave when you applied for

insurance, you have to pay back part or all of the subsidy (depending on your actual income for that calendar year). If your income was lower than claimed in the application, you get a credit on your taxes.

We got our health insurance on the exchange for a few years before we just started renewing directly with IBX every year. When you apply on the exchange, you have to estimate your income for the coming year to determine your subsidy.

Good summary of the redistricting fight boiling over in Missouri this week. Essentially, federal court saying election officials can ONLY use the 2025 maps and the State Supreme Court (and Kavanaugh) saying those 2025 maps are not now, and never were, legal.

Don’t laugh. I don’t think Pete will win nomination outright. But if he catches fire among the evangelical wing of the party, the eventual nominee may need him to turn that group out the way Trump needed Pence in ’16. Unclear how big the Christian Nationalist lane is but Pete will do well there.

I know his supporters gobble up his lies like Thanksgiving side dishes, but apparently, Canada has been ripping the United States off for decades by..... charging us too *little* for their products. Trump fixes this by making their products more expensive. newrepublic.com/article/2147...

This girl I used to waitress with in Austin, we moved to New York together in 2003 on a literal Greyhound bus. Shared a fifth floor walk-up studio that, when it rained, had more leaks in the ceiling than we had pots and pans. We used to get drunk and smoke off the fire escape and do “sad-offs.”

Go Paul! Wish some of our elected leaders messaged with this kind of energy.

Paul Waldman@paulwaldman.bsky.social

I understand the confidence about how this will all end, but I'm still livid at the Postmaster General for having the gall to say the USPS has the right to decide who gets to vote, when the USPS's actual job is to DELIVER THE GODDAMN MAIL, including every ballot, whether Donald Trump likes it or not

The state of media and how people get their news and form opinions is a long and nuanced conversation. But that aside, I will point out that this is the exact same messaging the Biden team used in 2024 and it didn't work then either.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

More context. TL;DR This kind of manipulation not unusual but this administration has little credibility that it’s doing it responsibly.

Functionally, government’s responding to changes in borrowing costs across the curve is totally normal behaviour (most typically done by DMOs shortening up new supply but twist-style operations achieve much the same thing). Point is to remind the market that there is a limit.

Matt's wrong about there being a constituency for Rubio. The Washington press corp would LOVE a Rubio campaign.

Matthew Gertz@mattgertz.bsky.social

Take a future Hegseth presidential bid seriously. A pure culture war candidacy by a former Fox host with Christian nationalist ties makes much more sense than a Rubio run which strikes me as a total fantasy without a real constituency. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...
