2003: LANDLINE PHONE: [recorded voice] You have a collect call from ... Pablo ... an inmate at Utah County jail. ME: I'll accept? (Pablo is my Argentine roommate.) [Line goes dead] ME: [looks up the number for Utah County jail, calls] Yes, hi, someone just called me from there? Pablo [Lastname]?

JAIL PHONE LADY: Oh, yeah. Hey, Pablo! Pick up the phone there! PABLO: [coming on the line] Hello? ME: Hello Pablo. PABLO: Who is this? ME: It's Eric. PABLO: Aaron? ME: Eric. Eric Snider. PABLO: Eric Eh-snider? ME: Eric YOUR ROOMMATE. YOU JUST CALLED ME! PABLO: Oh! Eric! Listen, I am in jail! ME: 😑

"Prosecutors say [4 days in jail] will deter others" from helping people escape from ICE. Nope! If anything, it makes me more eager to help, knowing that's all the punishment is. Four days in Utah County jail can't be too bad. I'd get a great story out of it, probably make some new friends.

Utah News Dispatch@utahnewsdispatch.com

A Utah couple who admitted to helping a man escape from ICE officers will serve four days behind bars, a sentence prosecutors say will deter others from doing the same as the Trump administration continues its immigation crackdown.

If today is Day of the Dead for Pets *and* Black Cat Day, then it is extra appropriate for me to post my deceased friend Dogcat (2002-2022), who spent his last 7 years with me. See you in hell, old friend.

He wasn't criticizing the food at Cheesecake Factory. He wasn't necessarily even criticizing the decor! He was only saying the decor at Cheesecake Factory isn't suitable decor for the White House! Why are conservatives so intent on pretending not to understand things? How does this benefit them?

Last three songs played by the bro in charge of the music at the gym: “Basket Case” “Lovefool” “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” …all songs that the youths have undoubtedly heard but (except for the last one) might not know the titles of.

It was that damn bridge song by RHCP, and now it’s Third Eye Blind’s “Doot doot doot, doot do-doot doo.” I’m guessing this playlist is the soundtrack from a movie called “That Nineties Movie.”

I haven't used AirB&B much, but why in Satan's red hell would you expect guests to clean the place before they leave? And why on Lucifer's green earth did customers ever agree to this? I think everyone in this situation is wrong.

One thing I love about the new Rifftrax MST3Ks is that, for the first time ever, it actually looks like 3-dimensional beings — not just silhouettes — are occupying the theater seats. You can see the folds in Mike’s shirt, and it’s more apparent than ever that Theater Crow is black. It looks real!

Compare the president’s gaudy taste to a chain restaurant? “People love eating there! Why do you hate restaurants??”

Oppose changing Lake Ontario to Lake America? "You've changed the names of things before! Why are you opposed to change??"

CLAYFACE: Probably if you are already familiar with and fond of the "Clayface" character and want to see his origins. I wasn't and didn't. He has no personality or charisma. I was surprised it said "Story by Mike Flanagan" and not "Story by feeding every revenge movie ever made into a computer."

My main issue with Clayface is that he shouldn't be able to change his face just by thinking about it. He should have to smush his skin around, like clay. Make him work for it.

Yes but '80s. We played it in the computer lab in 6th grade (1985-86). The computer lab was great. I mostly used the time to practice my typing skills. I would transcribe the lyrics to songs I knew, just to type. Loved typing. Did not anticipate typing being sole method of communication as an adult.

Americans who went to school in the 90s: did you play Oregon Trail? Did EVERYONE play Oregon Trail? I keep seeing it come up and wonder if it was truly that prevalent

The first movie I remember seeing in a theater was at a drive-in with my family to see E.T. in 1982 or early '83. I'd have been 8. We didn't go to the movies often (many kids; little money; no theater in our town), but still, this can't have been my first movie. But it's the first one I remember.

First film you saw at the cinema. The real first one, not the pretend one you tell people! Mine: The Empire Strikes Back, 1980, Wigan. We were near the front and I can still remember how massive the AT-ATs looked, looming over us out of the snow :) Film, year, where, and whatever stuck with you.

Trump didn't like Ramaswamy until he saw him sticking up for child rapists and their enablers. He hated the Ivy League until Cornell had a prominent fraternity gang-rape story in the news. He's not just a rapist, not just a serial rapist—he's a rape *enthusiast,* and it's why Republicans love him.

Trump: "What's happened is the press has ganged up on a woman making a horrible statement about her daughter, and I don't why she should be shielded. She said she was a dirty liar ... I say she's fair game."

New problem: When someone says "it's been," I have to repeat it in Barenaked Ladies "One Week" voice. I was talking to a friend who's struggling emotionally. He said, "It's been—" and it took ALL MY RESTRAINT not to say it. Good thing, as the rest of the sentence was "the worst year of my life."

Controversial take: I think this should be allowed.

Thinking about how during Covid I was buying tons of books and movies from Amazon, but ordering each one separately to spread the deliveries out and give me something to look forward to every day, and how this probably was not the ideal way to live.

Thrifty insists on a phone call with me before reimbursing me for the Lyfts I needed when they failed to rent me a car. This is obviously in the hopes that I will give up. But I will not give up. I will speak to them. Neither of us will enjoy the conversation. They will wonder why they insisted.

(SPOILERS for WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?) I just read a book about the film, then read the play, then rewatched the movie, so it's all fresh in my mind. I have a question. George and Martha have an imaginary son. The rule of the "game" is that they only talk about him between themselves.

Evidently neither of them has ever broken this rule. It almost goes without saying that of course they don't talk about him to others. So why does George warn Martha — twice — not to bring it up? If she's never done it before, why is he worried she's going to do it tonight?

When It happens, nobody's going to be the first to tell me because I'm online too much — I'll already know. I'll be the one informing others. So now I'm wondering: Who will I text first? I won't bother with people who are also too online. Maybe my mom? She won't have heard yet.

I like this because James Bond has always been in the service of Her Majesty before. Now that we have a His Majesty, James Bond should be a woman, for balance.

WHALEFALL from the whale's point of view is just, "Hey, there's something stuck in my throat! Wait, it's gone now." You can see why they told the story from the man's point of view instead.

CORRECTION: This guy's parents supported Trump when he was a kid. Now that he's an adult, he's realizing that was wrong.

The Washington Post@washingtonpost.com

Michael Fusella supported President Trump for nearly a decade. But as the Iran war drags on and the cost of living continues to climb, the 21-year-old Republican said he feels betrayed by a president who said he’d end overseas conflicts and lower prices.

A friend is making a film based on a true story that I’m interested in. He even had me consult on the screenplay and give notes. I have learned that he’s using Ai to help make the movie. So now instead of seeing it I have to avoid it and warn people about it.

I greatly enjoyed "Cocktails with George and Martha: Movies, Marriage & the Making of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" by Philip Gefter. Very juicy and informative on the movie and the play that preceded it, written with style.

The title WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? is a parody of "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?," but in the movie it's sung to the tune of "All Around the Mulberry Bush" to avoid having to pay Disney. I never knew the original Broadway production did the same thing for the same reason. 😂

Five youths in Tucano’s shirts (evidently employees) at the grocery store picking up a few things, I’m guessing for a coworker who is sick. One of them says, “Should we get flowers? I feel like he would eat T.S. up.” They’re saying “TS” now instead of “that s***” (see, I won’t say it either).

I would guess this is a modification for the swearing-averse, but maybe all the youths are saying "T.S." now. I've heard "tbh" said aloud. Abbreviations are fun regardless of swears.

It'll be hard to identify the specific pig who did this because he looks like every other cop. But since it's Provo, I bet you can find him at a church some Sunday morning.

If SNL has disappointed you so far this season, have you tried SNL UK? It’s consistently funny, feels scrappy and live, like a comedy troupe in a black box theater. Their Weekend Update has some amazing jokes and is inventive and hosted by two hot people. It’s streaming on the ‘Cock.

When Ron Burgundy says, "Milk was a bad choice," that was Will Ferrell giving Adam McKay a real note. It was a hot July day, McKay thought it would be funny for Ron to drink milk (true), but the milk was warm. That was real Ferrell annoyance expressed in Ron Burgundy's voice.

We all know the "Viggo broke his toe" story but what's another movie fact you're personally compelled to bring up every time without prompting? For me, it's the fact that Robin Tunney is wearing a wig in The Craft because of having just shaved her head to save her job filming Empire Records.

News events whose timing I'll always remember because they happened during Sundance: - Obama inauguration - Sully plane landing - Trump inauguration, P-hats - Deaths of Heath Ledger, Johnny Carson, Kobe Bryan

It makes no sense that we drive on our beautiful Parkways but we park on our beautiful Driveways. That's the "Radical Left" for ya ! Effectively immediately we, including, myself, will drive on driveways and park on parkways.! THank you for your attention tothis matter! PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP

Which came first: Boston hating New York City or Boston hating the NY Yankees? The city has obviously been around longer than the team, but the fervency with which the team is hated makes me wonder if they didn't start hating the city till after they hated the tream.

I hope nothing bad happens to the cop, Hunter Foster! I hope Hunter Foster doesn’t get shot in the head while sitting on his mother’s lap!

JUST IN: The police shooting that killed 1-year-old Kohen Wiley as he sat in his mother’s lap in a Walmart parking lot in Senatobia, Miss., in June “was justified,” Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch’s office said on Monday. Her office will not charge the white officer who shot the child.

When SCREAM came out, HALLOWEEN was 18 years old. FRIDAY the 13th was 16. The 2026 equivalent would be a film that satirizes, deconstructs, but also *is* a type of film we started getting too many of around 2010. In other words: The time is ripe for a SCREAM-like take on superhero movies.

We had superhero movies before, but IRON MAN (2008) is when the MCU kicked off and there got to be a glut, similar to slashers in the '80s. And we've had a few movies making fun of them, but not very effectively, and not while being good superhero movies themselves.
