Americans are relearning the lesson we learned during the Gilded Age of the late 1890s, when robber barons ran the government and the economy for their own benefit: Oligarchy is incompatible with the common good. I'm hopeful we'll respond with a new progressive movement.

Mainers deserve a fighter in Washington that focuses on them - not the wealthy, power-hungry special interests. Troy Jackson is that fighter. Troy Jackson will put power back into the hands of the people, he won’t be just “concerned” - and I’m proud to support his campaign. Vote for Troy Jackson.

To the brave students of North Carolina A&T: I want you to know that I see you-we see you. And I am damn proud. You are carrying on the legacy of John Lewis, of Diane Nash, of Dr. King. You are exemplifying what it means to fight for our democracy. Keep showing up, keep participating, keep fighting.

Georgia deserves a Governor who stands up for them and not the special interests. I know that @keishaforga.bsky.social will deliver for the people of Georgia by safeguarding voting rights, expanding health care, funding public education and lowering your cost of living. Vote for Keisha Bottoms!

Elon Musk has spent at least $366 million since July to boost Republicans ahead of the 2026 midterms. That’s just 0.0385% of his total net worth. Oligarchs can rig the system at the expense of everyone else, and only spend pennies doing so. We must get Big Money out of politics.

I’m proud to endorse @davidcrowley4wi.bsky.social. This November, Wisconsinites have a chance to put a final end to the anti-democracy, pro-special interests legacy of Scott Walker and Robin Vos, and elect a governor that is committed to protecting democracy and enhancing affordability in the State.

Michigan: we’re just a few weeks out from Election Day, and you have the opportunity to elect a truly great leader to the Senate - Abdul El Sayed. He’ll work for YOU! Make sure you have a plan to vote before or on November 3rd. We need him in the Senate. Let’s do this! @abdulelsayed.bsky.social

This is unreal. Weakens Ukraine (who with sufficient support could win the war) and for no good reason reverses long standing US policy. Cause for concern. ***** Trump strikes deal with Putin to get diesel in sharp reversal of US policy weeks before midterms apnews.com/article/trum...

apnews.comTrump strikes deal with Putin to get diesel in sharp reversal of US policy weeks before midtermsTrump says the U.S. will obtain diesel from Russia, relaxing years of US pressure on Moscow to combat prices ahead of midterms.

It’s time do a bit of a “freak out”. How many times are these hacks allowed to go back - on truly specious grounds - in attempts to get the results they want ??? Missouri is already printing ballots. 🤦🏽‍♂️

The Eighth Circuit has ordered the district court to reinstate Missouri’s 2025 congressional map. But before folks freak out, it also ordered that court to pause such a ruling for long enough that the challengers can (and will) seek further review from #SCOTUS: s3.documentcloud.org/documents/28...

To the media: stand up, be strong. Do NOT capitulate. Support CNN, MSNOW and Politico. If you stay together you will win and a core tenet of our system - the First Amendment - will be protected. Man up.

🚨Texas Republicans have decided to close 92 polling sites ahead of the midterm elections. That’s roughly a 30% reduction of places Texans can go to vote. Republicans are doing everything they can to make it harder for Texans - and Americans everywhere - to exercise their right to vote.

This anniversary is a somber one. Gutting the Voting Rights Act has paved the way for a dark chapter in our democracy and our nation’s history - one where voters are disenfranchised. But we can never give up on the fight for progress. We can do this.

I have proudly worked with her for years - I know that Jena is determined, unafraid and is a person of great vision. At this critical time for our nation she is the right person for Attorney General. Colorado: Vote for Jena Griswold!

June 11, 1963. My late sister in law - Vivian Malone - with the help of the Department of Justice and President Kennedy integrated the University of Alabama. The Governor of the state, George Wallace, stood in the school house door to prevent her from enrolling.

She went on to become the first black graduate of the University of Alabama. If one young, courageous woman can stand up to, and beat, the forces grounded in race, who are we today to resign ourselves to failure, to acquiescence?

To honor my beloved Vivian - and so many others - we fight. We’ll win if we do. Evil and hate are not as strong as righteousness and determination. We can do this!

The use of State power to trample on the rights of black Americans. In 2026 this resurgent movement by southern Republicans is both historically familiar and alarming. Vivian fought.

The redistricting referendums in Virginia & California stand in stark contrast to states where maps were enacted without public input, and at the direction of Trump. We’re meeting the moment responsibly - and sending a message that we will not sit back and watch MAGA attempt to steal our elections.

The victory in Virginia tonight reminds us that the people will defend democracy. Virginians who care about fairness didn’t just win an election – they have stopped Trump’s attempt to steal the 2026 midterms. A message to the White House: We will fight everywhere. And win.

Doing nothing - or capitulating - while Trump destroys our democracy is not an option.

That’s what tomorrow’s Virginia referendum is all about: meeting this democracy threat head-on with a TEMPORARY, voter-approved measure that levels the national playing field ahead of the midterms. Vote YES!

Virginia: Don’t be fooled by these deceptive, disgraceful, and deeply racist ads. What they are doing is an old trick with a dark history. I believe we—the people—have the power—and we need to use it. Make a plan to vote YES. Early voting ends this Saturday 4/18. Election Day is Tuesday 4/21.

Bob was more than a colleague to me. He was a friend. I hope that Bob Mueller‘s family is comforted on this sad day by the pride that those of us who served with him all feel. We were all fortunate to work with this great American. Bob made the nation better. Rest in peace my dear friend.

Texas is close to not being a functioning democracy It’s the hardest place to vote because Republicans have put impediments in place based on totally bogus vote fraud concerns - that they just make up The courts have become complicit in this effort What we’re seeing in Texas now is a disgrace

I posted this one year ago at what was probably the height of Trump’s power. There’s more work to be done but these five things still make up a pretty good outline of how we save our democracy - not through resignation and capitulation but through determination and action. We can do this.

This is the way back (2025): *an aroused/involved American people *effective lawsuits *wins in state/local elections *political class finds its footing *falling Republican polling numbers All are starting to happen.

Great visit this morning with Governor Wes Moore of Maryland (and my son who works on his staff). Trying to convince legislators in their state senate to stand up to Trump & Republicans and their mid cycle gerrymander. This nefarious effort will devalue the votes of the citizens of that great state.

I’m standing in front of a portrait of Frederick Douglass. He said: “Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will.” It’s time to be tough and fight back!

These are my remarks from that remarkable day: open.substack.com/pub/erichold... Note the theme I struck as we started out the rebuilding of the DOJ. Another Attorney General will also have to rebuild from the wreckage that is now the Justice Department.

open.substack.comFrom Queens to the Fifth Floor: My Swearing in as Attorney General 17 Years Ago17 years ago today, I was sworn in as the first Black Attorney General of the United States during Black History Month. These are my remarks from that remarkable day.

Just as Mamie Till refused to hide the visual truth that was her son Emmett’s beaten body in the 1950s, just as we saw the visual truth of the beating of John Lewis on the Pettus bridge in 1965, we must confront the visual truth of agents killing U.S. citizens in Minneapolis. Do not look away.

Bovino is not leaving Minneapolis cause he wants to. Not cause Stephen Miller, Kristi Noem, Vance or Trump want him to go. He’s leaving because the extraordinary “ordinary” citizens of that great city - by peacefully protesting en masse - kicked him out. Lesson to be learned. We have power.
