And more pics! This time of the return journey on the train. So relaxing. Had my DSLR on me for more practice so only got so many good photos, especially with just a 50mm. Sense this one was super ahead of schedule we had a couple smoke breaks this time.

Oh yea, forgot to post some photos from BLFC! Master DJ’d the pool, and we plus @colinbunny93.bsky.social went smacking balls at the driving range! Used his clubs to give Master his first non putt putt golf swing. I haven’t done it myself sense half a lifetime ago at my uncles house. So much fun.

When I get my 75-300 mm in I’ll be so tempted to keep it and the cam on me constantly during daylight in case I get another chance to photograph the worlds onlyist airship. This was done with my new iPhone’s 100mm cropped to about 1000mm.

So anyway I went out and grabbed those airship pics, you can see the ridges! So cool to see it floating out there. Apparently a helicopter was near (probably testing aerodynamic stuff) I couldn’t see at all next to that behemoth.

How dumb would it be to have one of those DSLR clip on to backpack strap things for going on scooting adventures? I mean as long as I don’t crash…. and if I do coddle it like a baby as I slide to a stop.

Ok, next time master DJs I’m renting the Canon 16-35mm 2.8 III and see how it photos cute furries in dark night clubs. If I don’t spent a lot of time >24mm I may as well get the 24-70mm

On the way home from lunch I saw they have the bridge/ 1-2 minutes of trail I use blocked off for an unannounced 5k run. They can just come outta no where and cut off my commute and force me on the shittiest roads with the shittiest drivers? Fuck.

Oh hey, let’s this Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III is cheap! Let’s see why aaaaand it’s crap. I mean, it’s like below $100 and gotta be better than nothing? Something for the flyovers and birds.

It’s raining more today but for as little as it rained yesterday that “rain smell” was sooooo much stronger. The bay got its first rain in many months. It’s like nature released its pent up musk.

Finally got my scooter modded and fixed! Took it up to max speed quickly to confirm it will commute me to work tomorrow. Now switching the back tire should be less annoying. I did not like having to remove the battery and shove it next to cables. Never fit right after first removable.

Really need that canon 75-300mm for fly overs. That would be a sweet range. Just shot the fly over for tonight football game, was a U2 and the camera did do on par with the phone but anything over the 50mm I got now would blow every cam and lens I got out of the water.

Think I’m not gonna rush into mirrorless, which means I’m gonna look for some cheap used glass for my current canon after I sell the Nikon stuff and get past the vacation/holiday pay slump. 50mm is nice and is a small lens but I need 24mm f/1.8 ish for club and cons and zoomier for travels

$40 solar panel WORKED! My battery that couldn’t turn over the car before con worked perfectly after like 2 days with it attached. Drove perfectly fine. Still gonna take it in for maintenance, maybe ask for a new battery, and keep the panel attached. Then I need a cover and car wash. Shits dirty

Being apparently the last summer day in the bay Master and I had a grand adventure. I wanted to practice with the DSLR, he knew tons of places to show me, we got delicious pho, and grabbed new colored stiiizy bars so we can tell ours apart! We Amtrak to the ferry to the bridge now we on Caltrain.

Best part of newer cameras nowadays is the gps is built in and just works. As I’m going thru my photos everything’s mapped on my phones photo app. Today I’m getting more pics with master on an adventure around the bay! Last warm day before it gets cold and rainy

Repost if $30k would change your life right now

Matt Darling@besttrousers.bsky.social

I don't think $30k is a life-changing amount of money. Median American born in 1980 will have $2m in income in their lifetime. It's a 1% increase in earnings.

Think you’re safe in a 4th story apartment away from fault zones, tornadoes and shit?? Well welcome to 2030 where a car can now kickflip into your wall for some reason. Some rich kid will roll the window down and say “sorry bro”, then kickflip away after activating a deafening vacuum fan.

So I’m going thru the manual for the canon finally and finding all these cool features. Like the completely unlabeled, barely noticeable button that closes the aperture to current settings to preview how bright things will be. Not a thing on my D3300.

There’s a 0.0% chance Elon’s hoping car makes it to market. It’s not flying, it flys as hard as I can throw. The most that will is the downforce vacuum but that will be a track toy that if you engage in a city will ingest all the trash and dirt on the road. And ticketed immediately for everything

Ok, gonna do it. Imma start selling my Nikon gear, practice with the Canon we got, and have my eyes on the new mirrorless R8 mkii. The DSLR will help me practice/translate my Nikon to Canon muscle memory.

Mirrorless cameras will detect eyes for autofocus?! Looks like you gotta set the species so I doubt “fursuit” will be an option. Tho would be easy if you look for that mesh material most eyes use.

Something I noticed photographing on the train was reflections from the window, I practiced using my hand to block what I can but is there some kind of special lens attachment for this kind of thing? Some kind of soft dark box to press against the glass? Gotta be at least a 3d printable jig

Didn’t use it on the train cause the windows are polarized but I do need a better CPL filter, the sunpak one I got from Bbuy can’t fully seat the canon lens cap. Photo nerds drop the primo “buy it for life” brands that would fit!

OMG also I don’t think I said it yet but our return trip had full on, like stock photo level Amish family and a couple of Tibetan monks. The only other time I can remember seeing that level of Amish was on a southwest flight and which had me you going “ok, no tech but the magic of flight is cool?”

SMH the bay is spoiled for weather and all my nearest Taco Bell’s including the one that closed has squat for outdoor seating. It’s good to chill outdoors like 90% of the year

Master said the long haul train wouldn’t be the same without me. Brings a tear to my eye, so often I think I’m nothing. Even with a room attendant doing a lot of the chores I’d be doing I’m still of value. It’s so stupid but I do need to internalize that I’m more than just physically useful.

Why the fuck did 700 supermarkets have fridges that can be set remotely? I get tracking the temp but settting it? That should have been as easy to avoid as ever! They get set to 1 temp forever, it’s food safety!!!! 0 need for adjustment.

I bet some software scammers were like “bro, who needs the freezer to be totally freezing all the time? It’s called micro-thawing. Our smart software will edge freezing temps to save you a few cents! Just give us half those cents!”

We had an idea for next year, sense we capital corridor’d our way to the zypher, that does mean we can do the night stay beforehand anywhere along that route. Have a peaceful night/morning somewhere between emeryville and Sacramento.

And return journey done! Train came all the way from Chicago, and master is tempted to take it to MFF now. Time flew, it barely felt like 3 hours and driving feels like 9 which is so much longer especially with traffic. Also our train was like 30 mins ahead of schedule!

I love the Amtrak crew, so much personality. My family always flew southwest cause…. Well the best deal but also these crew usually had an amount of personality and Amtrak has it on steroids. Beacon of light

Note for when I wake up: look for some kind of Siri shortcut that can tally up every zoom level my photos end up being and giving me a graph or something for future DSLR lens considerations.
