i guess i took another dip into the "code is art" debate

Essem@essem.space

i simply reject the notion that art exists purely for aesthetic pleasure; i'd say that most art is created for expression it's about the experience, not just the appearance or feeling; if you see something made with the intent to evoke *dis*pleasure, does that mean it ceases to be art?

i would like to announce that the this-is-epic.space PDS has joined the anti w social cabal and is now receiving funding from its leader

W Social@wsocial.eu

As we have communicated. We did the update on Septemebr 17th. Now a question back to you @wdonthavetime.selfhosted.social Who have funded you and what is your connection to other PDS operators? What is your motive to create a site framing public information as a "data-leak" what's your motive?

i ended up reverting this in the custom theme we use (since we're still using the old design by default and the changes here also applied to that) but i also made a new skin that does nothing right now but change the colors to approximate how they were beforehand

oh good god it's even worse than i thought verification/fingerprint history, guild info, locations, user agents, *plaintext admin passwords*, and so on all accessed; absolutely no encryption or hashing anywhere, despite claiming to do so in their privacy policy

as it turns out they are not following GDPR either despite being based in france; they have a self-serve delete request system, but that system *does not delete the info* despite claiming to do so

yeah someone got into our old production server that we never wiped and accessed 15 million IP addresses and 2 million emails. no big deal, everything's fine guys, no sensitive info was impacted. we're no longer using that provider, wait no don't look at our current server IPs

seeing more and more arguments that using llms will "challenge monopolies" or whatever, when as it stands it is only giving more power to 2 or 3 companies i am not aware of any local llms that are on the level of where the big players were a year or two ago that can run on an average android phone

the "lower end" models i'm aware of that are even close to the big options in terms of output quality still need, like, 12gb free ram minimum keep in mind that apple was still selling macbooks with 8gb of ram at $1700 as recently as 2024

i am putting emphasis on local models because that's the only area where that argument realistically adds up most people do not use local models. most people are unable to run local models. it still costs a lot of money nowadays to get ahold of a system that can run a viable local model

in case it isn't obvious by my posts i am not exactly the biggest fan of the leadership and much of the community surrounding the atproto ecosystem and bluesky, but i don't like most of the posts i see on here that are almost fanfiction-tier in regards to how they talk negatively about it either

please read about things before throwing your entire self into hating them (and if it's been some time, re-read those things as they might have changed) i constantly roll my eyes at posts that technically take the same position i do, but use outdated info/convey it in a terrible, antisocial way
