Our little one just made a joke which I found hilarious: Ten little monkeys were jumping on the bed; one made a backflip and that was very cool!

I think Lakland has perfected the MusicMan Stingray design with their 55-94 (and 55-02) design. Just like how Sadowsky has perfected the Fender Jazz Bass with their Vintage JJ.

TIL there's no unsigned 64-bit -> floating-point 64-bit conversion in x86_64, so you have to build it up from other instructions. Here's the codegen by gcc-15.2 with -O3, it uses different code paths based on the highest bit of the input:

Okay, my fine ladies and gentlemen, here's a new Christmas season beverage for you. I call it "TWO EARLS, ONE CUP". Ingredients: - one cup of hot Earl Grey tea, - one shot of Spanish Earl single malt whiskey. Serve hot in a mug.

Do all trans people automatically get a +10 point boost to their electronic music production skills, modular synthesizer insights and trackers navigation stamina?!

Slightly off topic about diff utilities. Apparently `diff3` is the one of two remaining GNU tools used in the FreeBSD codebase. The other one is `dialog`.

Is there a portable (POSIX/Win32) diff utility that is literally just a single diff.c file which I can copy-paste to my project? Similar to xxd.c?

Let's create a narcissistic CEO bingo card for when the AI bubble will have been collapsing: 1. Attributes the failure on the society being mean to him 2. Blames partners 3. Denies the reality: bubble burst doesn't exist.

8. Doubles down, stating stupid plebs are luddites who afraid of the wonder future 9. Appears at Oprah's for interview buildup for reputation rehabilitation purpose 10. Claims they were misunderstood, framed, or backstabbed (technically variation of point 2 above). Anything else I miss?

So I was right! E minor (Dorian scale). The only difference is that Kaval Sviri additionally utilises the minor second.

Any folk musicians here. Do I understand correctly that the Bulgarian folk song Kaval Sviri, and the famous chant from the Halo game are in the same key? I have some wild goosebumps imagining a choir mixing those two.

Most of the time the Americans are wrong with their negative opinions, cause they can't be fucked to learn anything about any other country. You need to hate my land *correctly*

Am I tripping or has YouTube started using some new AI compression (voicecloning+STT+TTS) recently? Many YouTubers started to sound like AI (some compression-like artifacts).

Every time a vendor makes us a presentation of the new version with a token AI functionality, they try looking professional saying "Nano Banana", whilst silently dying inside. Priceless. Whoever has made the decision to call the model this way, I applaud you.

Finally good news in 2025. The oldest bar joke has been finally interpreted. Sumerian bar joke goes like this: "A dog entered into a tavern and said, 'I cannot see anything. I shall open this', or 'this one'".

They were really good businessmen (except Ea Naśir, fuck this guy, lol). The joke is literally about every second idiot opening a bar thinking it is easy, while there are more bars than visitors. Like the café boom back in 2010s.

Finally good news in 2025. The oldest bar joke has been finally interpreted. Sumerian bar joke goes like this: "A dog entered into a tavern and said, 'I cannot see anything. I shall open this', or 'this one'".

The newest interpretation: "To open" in Sumerian is also applicable for opening an establishment (like in many modern languages). So in this case the joke is more like that: "A dog walks into a bar. The bar is empty. Dog: Hm... I should open one too!"

Feeling very feely these days. I am about to turn 40. So I indulge myself with some yapping. I have now realised that the local peak of our civilization has ended with the airplane crashing into the twin towers. Everything went downhill from that moment. At least from my millennial perspective.

The Watergate crisis, the Afghan war, collapse of the Soviet Union, dot-com bubble burst all was the lead up to the collapse. And with the twin towers the childhood has suddenly ended prematurely for the millennials.

Here's a brain twister. Hypothetical scenario: Divorced father fails to pay child support for years. Then he dies. The child is grown-up now, so he inherits the father's estate and debts. Will the government require the child to pay out the child support on himself (directly or inderectly)?

The only reason I am excited about the new year is that I am about to change my notebook inserts from Yamamoto Ro-Biki B7 to Lochby pocket size. This year sucked. Next.
