Highlights from Day 3 of #MoC7: our first talks inside the exhibition spaces of the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, with a packed keynote by @evanthompson.bsky.social, a showcase, discussions, and an intro to surrealist artist Remedios Varo. Thanks to Louisiana and all who joined! #consci 🧪

Thank you Frank Ostaseski, author of The Five Invitations: Discovering What Death Can Teach Us About Living Fully, for this lovely blurb: "A sweeping and personal book illuminating the philosophical, psychological, and transcendent dimensions of our shared experience of death and dying."

imo, you have to choose between using genAI OR cultivating fundamental educational values. you simply can’t have both 🤷🏾‍♀️

been reading university/higher-ed policies on the use of genAI in education. most policies propose using genAI safely, ethically, & responsibly, which is an oxymoron. the way current genAI is developed, deployed & functions renders the very ideas of safety, ethics, and responsible use meaningless

It's our pleasure to have @evanthompson.bsky.social as a keynote speaker for #MoC7 at the University of Copenhagen! Evan is a renowned philosopher and phenomenologist and his talk will explore the intersections of philosophy and neuroscience, promising to inspire crucial methodological discussions.

Indeed, neuroscientists must stop using analytic philosophers to understand the brain!

"It treats the brain as if it is an analytical philosopher, a machine evaluating logical propositions. But this is a faulty anthropomorphic projection, conflating the tools that scientists use to study nature with nature itself."

It turns out this lithograph was for a book by Edmond Picard who was a very unsavoury character, so we are going to work with a different Redon painting. Stay tuned!

My new book When Death Comes: Our Ultimate Transformation is now officially in production at Columbia University Press. The cover will feature this 1887 lithograph by Odilon Redon.

A quibble: I think "computation" should mean the manipulation of medium-independent vehicles according to a rule, so the biophysical processes described in this article aren't computational. Otherwise "computation" can mean almost anything (not that I want to be a word cop).

I did this program in 2011 and I highly recommend it. I'm not a health care professional but I did the program so I could learn about the experience of dying and how it affects the dying and their caregivers. I wrote about my experience of the program in my book Waking, Dreaming, Being.
