The President's plan to lower our energy costs: "I don't give a damn. We're making a freaking fortune"

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "Our country is making hundreds of billions of dollars on oil. and then on top of it we have Venezuela, and we have Greenland! 'We're making trillions of dollars. But my people said 'please don't mention that, sir, because people are paying a little higher'... we're making a frickin' fortune"

Data centers are coming to Wisconsin, and they’ll need a lot of new power. So how do we bring energy costs down for families? That was front and center at last night’s #WIGov debate. The answer isn’t aging coal or costly new gas plants. It’s clean energy, the cheapest new power we can build.

Families are struggling with home energy bills and need solutions now. But outdated electricity rates are overcharging customers who use efficient heat pumps--$359/yr for BGE customers. Fairer rates would save people real $$. www.evergreencollaborative.com/policy-hub/m...

Data centers are driving a surge in Pennsylvania's electricity demand, and someone has to pay: data centers, or families already squeezed by rising bills. Shapiro's (D) plan to make data centers pay their fair share could save households $9.9B, but key pieces still need to become law.

Wisconsin's next governor sets the state's energy priorities, and those priorities land on your utility bill. This fall's election decides which direction Wisconsin takes: $10B is on the line. Crowley's (D) plan: $826 in savings. Tiffany's (R) plan: $3,181 in added costs.

Energy bills are already squeezing Michigan families, and this election could bring relief or add to the pain: $11.6B is riding on it. Benson's (D) plan: $638 in savings. James' (R) repeal plan: $2,135 in added costs.

Americans expect the President to protect them. Instead, Trump and his corrupt administration have sold us out, just to line the pockets of their corporate polluter buddies. The rich get richer, we pay for it.

The Trump administration plans to repeal Biden-era rules to limit the carbon dioxide emissions from power plants that drive climate change. Lee Zeldin, Trump’s EPA administrator, said the change would help reduce the cost of Americans’ electricity bills. https://wapo.st/3Vu0UtW

IT'S EVEN WORSE. Trump's EPA is trying to abandon its responsibility to regulate climate pollution altogether. They want to permanently rig the system in favor of corruption and pollution.

The Trump administration is offering their fossil fuel buddies a free pass to poison our communities by eliminating climate pollution rules for power plants. This would be a disaster for America.

Trump and his oligarch buddies are telling Americans to settle for less. Unaffordable energy bills. Dirty air. Shorter lives. Droughts, fires, heat waves, and storms. No help. They want Americans to sacrifice in the name of profits for the rich.

With today’s EPA announcement, the Trump admin has decided that hundreds of billions of dollars in public health and climate damages are a fair price to pay if it means fossil fuel CEOs can make more money.

Two years ago, Trump made a similar promise: he would cut our energy prices in half within one year. Instead, electricity prices are up 15% and gas is still $4.25, all while his fossil fuel buddies get richer. Americans are tired of being lied to.

Trump: "If the Republicans win the House of Representatives and the United States Senate...I will issue a dividend to every adult citizen in the United States of America for $5,000."

What's driving up our energy costs? No matter how much fossil-fuel-backed politicians try to distract us, the answer is clear: the Trump administration's failed energy policy. Americans need real solutions from our elected leaders, not distractions.

“We shouldn’t be surprised that the same companies that struck a $1bn quid pro quo to help elect Trump in exchange for delivering on their policy wishlist are now cashing in on his anti-consumer agenda,” said @lenamdc.bsky.social www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

This court order is a crucial check on the Trump Administration’s abuse of power. At a time when Americans are paying record-high gas prices and utility bills, the last thing they need is their government using bureaucratic roadblocks to keep affordable energy off the grid.

Michigan voters sent a clear message Tuesday: they want leaders who will go big on clean energy. Candidates prioritizing lowering energy costs, holding utilities accountable, and addressing the challenges of the data center boom won up and down the ballot.

Michiganders are pushing back against a Trump-Vance energy agenda that has saddled their wallets with record-high gas prices and utility bills. The lesson is loud and clear: you can’t address Americans’ affordability crisis without taking on the energy crisis.

Electricity bills spiked 10% last year — 20% in some states. Three culprits: Big Tech data centers straining the grid, monopoly utilities pocketing record profits, and over-reliance on volatile gas. States have the tools to fight back. Here's how 👇 www.evergreencollaborative.com/news/clean-e...

Transportation is the 2nd-largest expense for most households — and the average family spends more on gasoline than on home gas + electricity combined. States can drive down costs by making EVs more accessible, building near transit, and funding transit reliably. New 👇

Housing costs and energy costs aren't two separate problems. They're one. 42 million households spend more than 30% of income on housing—and the homes they can afford are usually the most expensive to heat and cool. New from Evergreen Collaborative: how states can tackle both at once.
