Mandalorian and Grogu was an entertaining and well structured SW film. Most fan frustration is that we got it instead of the next season of the series, which we were told was going to tie into Ashoka S2 and lead into an Heir to the Empire movie about fighting Thrawn.

Patch Zircher@patrickzircher.bsky.social

I really misread the response to The Mandalorian and Grogu movie. Streamlined, action-oriented, heroic, with a bond between Mando and Grogu. I thought it was a crowd-pleaser, close in spirit to Star Wars (77), and would do great. And it was like people had it in mind to hate it, regardless.

That works to an extent. But it also means you missed out on a lot. Like the alien that Mando is going on missions with is Zeb from the SW Rebels cartoon. Between Mando and Ashoka, they are setting up a live action Rebels reunion.

Anyone else start getting AI Viking music on their YT algorithms? Trying to decide if it's just opportunistic garbage or if it's white supremacist recruitment garbage.

I miss lifting weights but apparently I don’t miss it enough to do anything about it.

The proliferation of automated surveillance devices is an invasion of our civil liberties. There are better ways to impact drivers than creating a permanent surveillance state.

Boo!-per Lund@cooperlund.online

Driving a car is incredibly dangerous, it should be one of the most regulated experiences on earth, and it is very upsetting to watch people who correctly don’t trust the cops turn against automated enforcement because the alternative is relying on a cop’s judgement to enforce the laws.

The military runs war games for three reasons: 1. To legitimately test out ideas, strategies and coordination of large forces 2. To practice coordination with our allies. 3. To impress politicians and get more defense funding. Those ideas can be conflicting.

Dix@dixonij.bsky.social

There's a reason I mentioned "legitimately run" wargames, because the military has absolutely run HEAVILY rigged scenarios in the past to get wins (the most famous actually being run in 2002 of US "Blue" forces as an Iran/Iraq analogous Middle Eastern "Red" force en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Millenn...)

1. Doing an honest test means possibly losing. Which is a GOOD thing in practice because you learn more from failure than success. 2. You don't use everything in an exercise with allies because you don't want to give away all your secrets. 3. To impress politicians, you need to win decisively.

Old saying told to me by a retired cop. "Better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6." Can't deal with consequences if you're dead.

This is just as annoying on the hiring side while we wait for HR to do their background checks, verify degrees and licenses, get the drug test results, and everything else they do before setting a start date. Meanwhile you're short staffed and everyone is just eager to get started.

I wish we could bring back the World's Fair. Where major companies pay for rides and exhibits that actually make you hopeful for the future. Not just a CES type sales show, but all the wild and speculative futuristic technology they're dreaming of. And fun rides designed by Disney and others.

Give us concept cars that will never be made. Kitchen robots and automatic dog walkers. But, we're currently living that scifi future. And the Internet spoils everything. Give us the next wave of speculation and innovation.

Racists know who they can safely be racist in front of. They test the waters with a few light jokes. An offhand comment. They measure your reaction. If your friend is heavily racist in front of you, it's because you gave them a green light.

Pizza is trending, so I have to tell you all: I found out 48 hours ago that there is such a thing as “Saskatchewan Style” pizza. When It saw these photos, my reaction was “My God, Saskatchewan. What have you done.” My partner’s reaction: “You know where our next road trip needs to be.”

The propaganda of the early 21st Century will be studied for decades to come. It's fascinating to watch the narrative go from Tesla as the premier sign of environmental conscientiousness to being the symbol of MAGA incels all because of Musk's actions. While owners preordered before the switch.

Q: Serious question: what sort of a freak would pay six figures to be seen driving this rolling abomination? A: The typical Cybertruck buyer is a Nazi incel who’s painfully insecure about having tiny genitals.

You may be wondering how Iran might retaliate. They have been holding an ace in the hole the whole time. One any informed leader knows. Iran can mine the Strait at any time. Doing so would PERMANENTLY make the strait dangerous and make insurance for ships go up an order of magnitude.

No matter how much you send through mine sweepers and try to clear it, you can never be 100% sure you got everything. Higher insurance means either higher prices from insurance costs or higher prices from taking much longer routes.

And Iran. Can use basic artillery and cheap drones to sink just ONE ship inside the strait, blocking the whole route and taking weeks to clear. And again the threat will close the strait. And this cannot be reliably prevented. Every sane leader knows it.

Toaster Pastries, like everything else, not as good as they were 20 years ago. But, if you have the time, get some frozen pastry dough, a can of your favorite pie filling, and make a bowl of frosting (just powdered sugar and milk) and make your own.

The deletion of information is expanding. More troubling than the deletion of Trump's Twitter posts from before 2024 is the removal of the CIA World Factbook. A resource that has been used by students, academics, businesses and professionals world wide. www.npr.org/2026/02/07/n...

I'm tired of scrolling through YouTube and getting random clips from shows and movies. Especially spoilers. I know this is guerilla marketing. Maybe it works with Gen Z. But it just ruins any interest I may have had in watching something. And there's no way to block them all.

As I learned from making pizza dough, if it's not stretchy it means you didn't need it long enough. Pizza dough should be able to "window" when you stretch a piece and get a thin membrane you can see your fingers through. Done the same making pretzels. Need to hold shape during the boiling step.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame should just rename itself to the Popular Music Hall of Fame at this point. I know the reasons. The actual museum is a failing business. Doesn't draw enough visitors. They are fighting for cultural relevance and more visitors. Casting a wider bet for attention.

I'd call it The Replicator and it would make all the most famous recipes from popular chain restaurants that no longer exist.

Just had one of those moments men wait their whole loves for. Have a light up Christmas decoration that we haven't put up for years because we lost the plug for it. Well, turns out an old IBM laptop plug that I was told to throw out years ago works PERFECTLY with the old fiberoptic winter village.

Don't let them forget that Trump: Ended the asylum program to bring the Afghan translators to the US. Set the withdrawal deadline before the election forcing the withdrawal under Biden. The withdrawal left many translators and other Afghan support personnel stranded apnews.com/article/nati...

apnews.comTrump criticizes the program that brought Afghan refugees to the US who fought the TalibanThe man accused of shooting two National Guard members in Washington is one of about 76,000 Afghans brought to the U.S. after the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan.

And worst of all, ICE has deported many of the translators who were granted Asylum, but were blocked from applying for citizenship back to Afghanistan where they will be killed by the Taliban. In other words, Trump created the situation and the anger and outrage behind it.

If they made a remake of this today, it would be from the perspective of Velda, the middle class, recently divorced mother who's become tough because she had to be. And a rich socialite with no wilderness skills becomes a major disruption to the program, threatening to undo her hard work.

Having a Mandela Effect Moment. Does anyone remember an epilogue to Death Note where Ryuk goes back to the Shinigami realm and meets a new arrival that we slowly realize is Light who has no memory of being human? Everything I look up says it doesn't exist and the creator says it doesn't exist.

The Fleming Estate rejected the idea that Bond was a code name. Christopher Lee was the real James Bond. His exploits around WWII were Fleming's inspiration. That said, there's no real reason a reboot couldn't make it a code name in honor of the original Bond.

Farran Smith Nehme 🇱🇧@selfstyledsiren.bsky.social

You either state or heavily imply that James Bond is a name that goes with the 007 assignment, not a one-man identity. I thought that was what we were supposed to assume anyway?
