appreciate all the new follows from #nbasky there's a lot of hoops & stats talk here! I also talk about whatever else is on my mind which may not always be hoops. got some written stuff about hoops & film study in the pipeline so I hope you'll read it in time, anything I publish will be pinned.

If Zion played like Tip Hayes, he'd be MVP

Daniel Thompson@dr-thompson.bsky.social

The fact that Tiffany Hayes was able to receive this hand-off and make a clean pivot move through two defenders is so impressive. #WNBASky #SkyHoops

underestimate stokes at your own peril

🚨NEW WORDS ALERT🚨 She doesn't care for the attention and outside noise, but she deserves a lot of it. Kiah Stokes has been an absolute monster defensively and deserves your respect. On her historic run: sports.yahoo.com/wnba/article...

This Pelicans team is, at best, a collection of NBA players. It is not a cohesive team, & everyone knew that before the season started. After all the mistakes made last season, ownership chose not to do a damn thing about the clear roster flaws. And here we are, 0-3 via 3 crunch time embarrassments.

As someone who has watched a LOT of Pacers games over the last decade, I know what Mathurin is as a player. It's definitely great when it's good, but if he's not on a tight leash, he freestyles too much & has not shown the passing acumen necessary to shoulder any significant offensive load.

I genuinely need to see the training camp documentary from this team bc I have no idea what they worked on. They did better under their coach last year who took over mid-season. The offensive process is bland. The defensive individual technique is solid*. But the defensive scheme is gnarly.

Courtside Karenina@annajane10000.bsky.social

These turnovers aren't due to pressure they're just bad passing.

Fears is a solid player but his usage so far this season has been rough. He hasn't been given any sort of green light to create early paint touches. Tbh in early offense transition, he should be Jordin Canada. In the half court, Kelsey Plum OR Mitchell. There is no reason he can't play that way.

This post is unavailable.

He's good but do not use performance against the Pels as true hype. Multiple teams had *season highs* against the Pels all year long. They're just less than the sum of their parts more often than not.

Man, the #Nuggets got a REAL one in Trevon Brazile! Couldn't possibly have been more impressive tonight.

AD said the exact same thing I said here. There is a lack of intention from the Pels in pivotal moments that is directly related to this 4Q/OT chaos.

Exia Ross@exiaross.bsky.social

The lack of "this is what we're going to do to close" from this team is infuriating. Every elite team knows how they're going to run the game to close.

a true pg with a cool head (fears is a combo) & a true big that isn't geriatric would be stabilizing factors in a 4Q like that. without those, or people who can be a proper facsimile of that, you'll lose to teams anchored by two that can do exactly that.

That’s 5 clutch turnovers by the Pelicans. Unbelievable how this organization refused to make any alterations to this roster. Each and every time they disappoint you remember: Joe Dumars, Troy Weaver and Gayle Benson actively chose this.

there is no reason they shouldn't have run something like this. a veer or delay or ANYTHING

Exia Ross@exiaross.bsky.social

I'd personally run a Trey lob with a Z fake, but start it with a DJM to DQ action.

Like...that same play but with a Trey ghost screen has a more open passing lane. No freaking instincts here for pre-action motion.

Next possession proved my point. They could've avoided that if they had a plan to scram Jeremiah out of that PG vs C matchup

Exia Ross@exiaross.bsky.social

If Fears is on Jokic why doesn't Mose have a scram plan? Z would be a better matchup here, clearly

Remember Pels fans, the Pels are so lowly regarded (justifiably) that a loss to them is possible grounds for firing the coach lmao

Ryan Blackburn@ryanblackburn.bsky.social

3 straight Pelicans baskets, 2 of them due to offensive rebounds and another timeout for David Adelman, who is searching for answers and hustle right now. More boos rain down.

Part of the success tonight is the reasonable lineups Mose has run tonight. None of the insane ones over the past 2 games. Karlo + Yves have also had exceptional starts to the year. Queen as well.

Best player on the team in a comprehensive sense.

Kris Pursiainen@krisap.bsky.social

The Pelicans are on a 23-4 run over the Nuggets Everyone is hooping. Shoutout to Herb Jones, though, who is tied for a game-high +18 despite being entirely scoreless

That's funny that DeAndre is already starting so early. Borrego did the same thing. The team needs at least two bigs who can do what he does.

this is probably more reflective of age than anything else bc the youths aren't watching tv as much as youtube. but certain journalists (especially the culture ones) should probably know about the largest people in the space. especially when they're litigious & responsible for important precedents

Bone bruise is rough bc he was performing so well, but at least it wasn't something like a ligament. Thank heavens. He'll be struggling with this all season though. Bone bruises are always difficult & directly affect performance bc playing at a certain stage is about pain tolerance.
