i love reimaginings of some particular social common concepts. Technology not as silicon, but as social innovation. That's the stuff that is the basis of some of my favorite scifi. turning commonly held assumptions on their head and seeing what happens.

It was awesome seeing folks today at Lightbox! Managed to borrow a badge from @michaeljruocco.bsky.social after meeting up fromt and me and Dirac got to wander the floor. Said hi to and made many friends. He got tons of treats and pets. He was so happy. Even brought home a new friend lol.

I'll be meandering outside Lightbox today with my emo goblin child. Look for a scruffy short guy wearing a Lackadaisy newsie cap and a punk tiki vest holding this wet noodle.

If there's one thing I suggest junior artists practice for animation work, it's observation skills. Volumes, perspective, proportions, negative space. That's what I'm frequently noting up to get things on model. The relationships between shapes is priority with draftsmanship.

And practice doesnt stop when you're seasoned artist. You adapt it into your work flow. Study and break down the model before you jump into work. Allow yourself your own notes pass to tweak before giving it to your director. Outside of work, still lifes are a great way to build your eye/hand.

Those toys and tchotchkes you've collected for your shelf? Assemble those on a table and sketch them. Light lines, then go over them with darker lines to correct. Don't focus on erasing so much as correcting. A class can guide you, but more importantly it teaches tools to keep building skills.

What could be more Halloween than a BAT? How about a bat colored like a JACK-O-LANTERN? Let's meet the Painted Bat (Kerivoula picta), also called the butterfly bat, native to SE Asia. 🦇🎃 (📷: MerlinTuttle.org)

"millennial writing" as a term confabulates cuz it could charitably describe Joss Whedon's writing style, but Whedon is not a millennial. Guys using this term to "crit" don't aim it at Whedon or Whedonesque works. Feels like a "CalArts style" level crit. Just another way of saying "gay/for girls"

The folks hammering this idea in Youtube crit circles aren't talking about writing. It's being used in that vague eye-winking way complaints about "woke" were years ago. Hearing dog whistles again out of the mouths of left-leaning critics is so boring. Stop borrowing vocab from those dudes.

we have an establishment dem Karen Bass running against the DSA backed pro housing, pro public transport city council member, Nithya Raman. Her candidacy is the first serious kick in the ass against real estate developer scheming in a while here (the source of much of LA's issues).

Spreading ashes at night at Ocean Grove. Tribute to my grandmother Sondra. Her daughters did the honors, braving the cold waves in the dark while the rest of the family looked on. My Aunt Cindy struggled to get sand out of her sandals after. A composite of those moments in goauche on cotton paper.

indie animation heaping more abuse on Jason for being born chomping a cigar lol

It’s been such a ride getting to play around in a show like #KnightsOfGuinevere as the voice of the Worst Man™️ Armend. 🦾 @danaterrace.bsky.social and the whole team are such constant geniuses, and have created something that is poignant and horrifying and elegant all at the same time. 🙏
