After a few weeks of this, Dad said she could have the money as a gift. Ninna was incredibly shocked by this generous offer. Are you certain, she said. Honestly, I can repay you, she said. Well, only if you’re sure, she said. Thank you so much, she said.

Today would have been Ninna’s 100th birthday, which, coincidentally, is a figure that would take you three years and forty-four weeks to save up for at 50p per week. ❤️❤️ What a legend ❤️❤️

I don’t remember exactly how much, so let’s say it was £100 - a sum that wasn’t a fortune at the time but not chicken feed either, especially for a pensioner. She swore that she would faithfully repay him each week until the loan was cleared, and my Dad happily agreed.

Now, you have to understand that Ninna wasn’t a wastrel or a bum. She said she’d repay the loan on a weekly basis and she absolutely, fully intended to. Indeed, she diligently made each payment exactly as promised! This was when my Dad realised his error…

When I was growing up, I lived with Ninna, my grandmother, my mum, my brother, and many wonderful animal friends. At some point, Ninna borrowed some money from my Dad.

Fizzy rocked up at 8:30 this morning, staggered past breakfast muttering something about a late night and why is everything so bright, and took himself to his bedroom. He didn’t even make it to the bed. It appears someone took Wine Wednesday very seriously 👀🍾

NEWSLETTER!!! I am determined to get back into writing my monthly newsletters, and the 14th is traditionally the day I send one out. But today I’m suffering an upset stomach. So, no newsletter today, friends. But there will be one whizzing your way very soon!! ✉️ 💨

I had today off so I figured I’d start at about 9am and do a couple of hours of FD admin, then take the rest of the day as I was working all weekend. Friends, I’ve just finished admining and there’s still *so much* left to do. GAH!!!! 😫

If you're at @cymerafestival.co.uk this weekend go check out @fdleeauthor.bsky.social's books in the Creator's Hall - they are AMAZING! Fairy tale tropes ripped up in the funniest way possible, or disaster gay time travel, something for everyone. #Booksky #AmReading

Arrived and set up at @cymerafestival.co.uk! Big thanks to @idakeogh.bsky.social, Glyn, and - of course - James for their help ❤️❤️❤️

Day two of @cymerafestival.co.uk! Having a blast being back on the circuit after so long away. Met some amazing people and caught up with friends ❤️❤️ Oh, and someone did a book reading and forgot to tell the audience their name and the name of their book…. It’s me. I’m someone 🤣🤦‍♀️🙄

How’s it going, friends?! I had a great check in with one of critical friends last night who is advising me on the mental health writing in Closing Time (they’re a doctor of psychology and a practicing counsellor - I’m so lucky!) 1/2

It was a fab talk and they gave me some excellent advice so I have a springy spring in my step this morning. Now if only I can find some writing time today…! Stupid job earning stupid money so I can stupid live *grumble grumble* 🤣🤣🤣

🧵 Writing update While I’ve been hiding, I haven’t been idling! I’m very happy to share with you all that Closing Time (Kong 2) is still in production and *should* still come out this year 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

I won’t lie. The last year has kicked me in every conceivable way, and my capacity is suffering as a result. I am under very strict instructions to safeguard my health, mental and physical, which means paying more attention to what I’m able to do on a day to day basis.

But I love Bea, Kong, and the whole weird FDLee gang (including you! Yes, you!). Writing gives me so much joy, and while my energy isn’t what it has been, I’m still plugging happily away 🎉💪🚀

The Fairies’ Triumph (Bea 6) hasn’t been put in the corner, either. The plan remains to get started on Bea as soon as Kong’s finished. In preparation for that I am doing a hecking lot of research, currently focused on China’s deserts and 18th century France.

British friends, I heard your pleas about the unbearable heat and have taken action. This morning, I swapped out all my winter clothes for summer linens. The heatwave will end momentarily. You’re welcome 😘😘

TW: My beautiful cat passed away. Hello friends xxx Another blow, I’m sorry to say. Wonderful George - who some of you will know from Facebook Live events, from stories in newsletters, pics on social media, or from real life - passed away peacefully at home on Friday 27th March.

While this was underway, the family explained to James and I that Grandad had hurt his hip a while back, and had had to walk with a cane. During this period, every Friday, George would walk him to the Mosque, and would be there when prayers ended to walk him home again.

We never knew until they told us! But this was George to a T. He had the biggest heart imaginable, and we were incredibly lucky to have known him. Love you, George xxxx

Everyone says this, and it’s always true (of course!), but George was the bestest ginger and white cat that ever catted. We have wonderful stories and he led a very happy and full life, with love, friends, and mischief galore! My favourite Gee story, however, is this:

When we moved out of London, the multigenerational family that lived in the flat above wanted to come and say goodbye - to George. Three generations came to our house, all asking to hug him and have their photo taken with him.
