A detailed and often frustrating look at the current issues with Democratic Party fundraising - including what's up with all of the spam emails. A must read for anyone who would like to work towards a better system built for honestly engaging the people, not generating profits.

Jake Grumbach@jakemgrumbach.bsky.social

Just as a private equity firm buys out a corporation and strips it for parts, a consultant class is raiding the Democratic Party and getting “generationally wealthy” along the way New from me and @adambonica.bsky.social newrepublic.com/article/2163...

I strongly support this idea. Public libraries are one of the greatest ideas homo sapiens ever had.

Bloomberg News@bloomberg.com

Boston, Cleveland and New York City are combining housing complexes with public library branches in a bid to add affordable units and boost community services.

If I was a strategist for the wannabe fascist government looking for an October Surprise that could deliver the following positive (for their evil plans) results, I know exactly what I would recommend. I have no doubt that some of those actual fascist strategy ghouls have the same conclusion. 1/3

- Provide an immediate reason to invoke the Insurrection Act - Provide an immediate excuse to "cancel" elections, despite it being unconstitutional - Provide an excuse to label all non-Republican parties as "terrorists" - Transform the most reviled US president into a "patriotic martyr" 2/3

The Senate should have convicted Andrew Johnson. Ford should not have pardoned Nixon. The many crimes of the George W. Bush administration should not have been ignored.

Build child care centers. Build health centers. Build community centers. Not data centers. And not ICE detention centers.

I don't think it's a coincidence that Trump is banning news outlets the week before a court's deadline for Todd Blanche to release interview notes with underage girls Trump is alleged to have raped and threatened. He'd rather we talk about his censorship than his pedophilia.

A must-read (as usual) but the highlights from the Marshall-Hamilton debate put a little spring in my step this Monday morning.

MeidasTouch@meidastouch.com

Trump met massive protests in Ireland. Roger Marshall faced chants of “Shame on you!” in Kansas. And Judge Luttig issued a chilling warning about what Republicans could do after losing the midterms. Catch up with Ron Filipkowski’s free Weekend Bulletin.👇

Canadians have shown up to aid the US more than any other nation. Fuck this president and every single Republican politician and voter supporting his actions.

Andrew Weinstein@andrewjweinstein.com

You know who actually did show up at Ground Zero? Canadian emergency rescue crews.

Some days I feel like I'm living in the world of The Zero Theorem, doing the same type of work in the same type of environment as Cristoph Walz' protagonist. And then other days I'm reminded that I live in a world much like Brazil. And soon, possibly, I'll be on the streets of The Fisher King.

The same people who think Trump, who dodged the draft five times yet knows how to win a war — also think Trump, who declared bankruptcy six times, knows how to run the economy… That's what Trump Derangement Syndrome actually looks like. Any Questions?! 😎✨

LOTR got me way more interested in the fantasy genre, while reading the Bible got me far less interested in organized religion.

InfiDale@infidale.bsky.social

The main difference between the Bible and The Lord of the Rings is that when someone calls The Lord of the Rings their favorite book, they’ve probably read it.

This short story had a powerful impact on teenage me in the early eighties. We were living under a darkening nuclear shadow. A story about a robotic house going about its daily chores despite all the people being erased from the picture was devastating. Ray Bradbury set the story on August 4, 2026.

Boing Boing@boingboing.net

Ray Bradbury's "There Will Come Soft Rains" is set today, August 4, 2026, in Allendale, California. A voice-clock chirps the time, the stove makes breakfast for eight, and the house keeps running for a family that's no longer there.

If we're still drilling and burning oil 700 years from now we have failed as a species.

Farrukh@implausibleblog.bsky.social

Ben Ansell, "Claim that the North Sea has 700 years of oil for Britain" "Which might be true if you sucked it out through a drinking straw"

And Elon Musk and his DOGE boys, as well.

If the current Republican orthodoxy is that public health officials are responsible for every incident of disease or death that occurs on their watch, I'm looking forward to the months of hearings about RFK Jr

Me too. Having cut most of the MAGA folks out of my life years ago (except for coworkers I can't escape yet), I'm now finding myself restricting communication with those in my circle who are sure "the Dems will win the midterms and everything will be just fine!"

John Pavlovitz@johnpavlovitz.bsky.social

I’m angry with everyone who isn’t angry. I’m having a hard time with the unbothered people, the “everything is gonna be fine” people, the people who are acting as though they are above those of us who are blowing gaskets, breaking down, and freaking out. johnpavlovitz.substack.com/p/im-furious...

"Nobody has sacrificed more than Mike Lindell in fighting for our country..." STFU grampa. You are a traitorous POS who has never once understood the meaning of sacrifice in your eighty miserable years on Earth.

Ron Filipkowski@ronfilipkowski.bsky.social

Trump endorses Mike Lindell for Governor of Minnesota.

Journalists, please prepare ahead of Thursday night. Make a note of the court cases he lost about the 2020 election, quite from important people like Bill Barr saying there was no fraud... And then report the truth about what we already know he will be lying about on that speech. Please.

It's bad in the US right now, and all signs point to it getting worse. It sucks.

Garret@garretmandalatea.bsky.social

How does a three yr old child recover from having seen her father shot by ICE? America, we’re really sick. Privilege sees many of us still turning away, denying what’s right in front of us while we look for the next great deal on a new gas grill or show to stream. Meanwhile, madmen run amuck.

This is unacceptable in a free Republic. Armed, masked thugs murdering folks on our streets without the due process of warrants or probable cause. Renee Good was murdered by Jonathan Ross six months ago today, and he's not only free but in the same position to kill more folks. ICE out now!

Amee Vanderpool@girlsreallyrule.bsky.social

Lorenzo Salgado Araujo worked hard for 35 years to send all three of his American citizen sons to college. He was driving to work through a popular neighborhood when ICE agents killed him. He was shot in the abdomen and lay moaning while no agents helped him.  He had no criminal record.

The Trump administration is illegally deporting people without due process to forced labor camps in El Salvador and Eswatini. Jamieson Greer lies to the American people.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Jamieson Greer: "Think about Abraham Lincoln -- he was against slavery, he was for tariffs. President Trump similarly, he's for tariffs and he's against forced labor."
