I grew up in NYC in the late 1970’s. I knew who Donald Trump was even at a young age. He always struck me, even before I could use words to describe him or knew about any “isms”, as loud and obnoxious; a “carnival barker”. I set the bar so low for him, but I wasn’t even close to the reality.

Somedays I take the backroads way to work. I pass a house with an orange Trump 2024 banner hanging on a tree in the front yard. I noticed last week there was a decent-sized tear in the middle of it. I try to take comfort in the symbolism.

I wonder which corrupt and shady act (of the many) tipped him off!

My father admired JFK/hated Nixon. After a month in Trump’s first term, I asked hypothetically, if Trump did something objectively “good” for the entire country and his popularity went up 10 points, would you be okay with it? He paused a long time, then finally said, “But he would never do that!”

Has anyone tried unplugging the United States and just….leaving it unplugged for a while?

It occurred to me for the first time this week that both my parents were born during the FDR administration (Dad - 2nd term, Mom - 3rd term) and may not live to see the end of the current administration. Don’t know if they (or I) can reconcile the scope of the difference between then and now.
