The move to Dublin went well. Our new home/apartment is so much nicer too 🙂‍↕️ Just settling in and lots to do

Lately I've been watching lots of animal documentaries. They're so epic. "The Dinosaurs" on Netflix, which I really liked, along with many David Attenborough narrated ones. Currently I'm loving "Serengeti", which is a dramatized documentary series that explores the lives of many animal characters.

Art direction for the Zelda OoT remake is weird... it needs more soul, but w/e I'll be there. I'm surprised it's coming out so soon. I hope they're still working on a proper new Zelda title. Pretty excited for the 40th anniversary concert tour! We'll probably go to the London one. 🎶

idk if it's just me but why does it feel like this site doesn't load properly half the time I try to open the app or webpage

We're replaying FFIX and my wife pointed out that Freya/Burmecia/Cleyra might be partly inspired by Irish/Celtic culture. They even perform a riverdance in Cleyra. Sir Fratley is probably a nod to Michael Flatley. I never realized any of this before. I'm sure there are dev notes about this somewhere

Recently replayed Final Fantasy VIII, my first time since the year ~2000, so it has been quite a while. I have newfound appreciation for this game. It's very uneven, very experimental, and the junction system is whack af, but I think it has a lot of interesting gameplay & narrative ideas.

When I was a kid, much of FFVIII's plot flew over my head. It has an odd fragmented storytelling approach, half-backed character arcs, and very convenient plot developments, but I feel like it's all at least refreshingly unique... the time paradox and emotional release at the end is nice too

The junction system is a riot and these days easy to exploit, but I found the actual battles to be pretty fun. The card game is addicting but gets confusing later on w/ all the region rules. The music is also still the best in the series IMO. We played the remaster btw

In SoCal for a few weeks visiting my folks. We went to the new Square Enix cafe in Little Tokyo. It's a cute little new spot.

We visited my in-laws in Ireland this past weekend. I'm always happy whenever I visit. It's a lovely and beautiful country with a really inviting atmosphere. ☘️

We watched the Mamma Mia! musical this past weekend. I haven't seen the movie adaptation nor am I a big ABBA fan, but it was really fun. It lives up to its reputation as a comedy work.

The Steam Machine sounds like something I'd consider due to convenience rn, if it was like $400-500, but $1,000+ seems a little silly. Gaming is becoming such an expensive hobby. At this rate people will be completely priced out.

Yesterday we went to the Music of Square Enix concert. It was an incredible experience. Plenty of Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Chrono Trigger, Octopath Traveler, and even classics like Xenogears, Mana series, Live A Live, and Romancing Saga. Yoko Shimamura was in attendance too as a special guest.

There's something special about hearing Frog's Theme (Chrono Trigger) live in an official concert. I've always loved that track a lot. I used to print sheet music and play it myself back in highschool band class lol

I remember when we recorded this episode. Good times! It's one of my favorite episodes too. The Dianna-Kihel switcheroo is a pivotal moment, and you get to see how it impacts both of them almost immediately. Many of the show's literary themes come into play as well.

Now that Big Fire Frequency, our new patron-exclusive Giant Robo series, has kicked off, we’re releasing our Moonrace Wireless back catalogue on the free feed! This week, dear friend @feez.bsky.social stops by to talk about episode 10 of ∀ Gundam!

We visited Oxford this past weekend. I have to say... this city lives up to its reputation. It's rich with culture and history and has such an engrossing vibe & atmosphere. It has been a big highlight of my time here in the UK. We're definitely going to have to plan another trip out there.

They barely showed anything... I wonder if this is a full-on modern remake (like a re-imagining), or if it's more of a fancy remaster. I'm not a fan of this era of endless remakes, but I do love Ocarina of Time, so I guess we'll see. I hope they're slowly developing a brand new Zelda title too.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (remake) announced, coming 2026

I'm replaying Earthbound instead, on Nintendo Switch Online. They should add CT on there...

I'm in a mood to replay Chrono Trigger, but I just discovered that it doesn't have a modern console release...??? I don't have my PC here, and I don't play games on my phone. I'm surprised it hasn't been ported yet.

Spring 2027 for FFVII Revelation (silly title lol) isn't bad. The new job system kinda reminds me of X-2. I hope it's a single release and they don't milk important narrative content with DLCs.

Finally watched the Gundam "Road to 50" prologue movie. I always enjoy these little love letters to the franchise. This one had some great effects & animation and iconic shots too! I checked the credits and Yoshihito Hishinuma was involved as one of the animators (Wing/Turn A).

We finally finished FFVII: Rebirth. I have mixed thoughts, but overall I did enjoy it. I think most importantly it does feel like an actual full blown adventure, and that aspect of the original game is well-realized here. The character interactions & dynamics are still incredible.

That said, Rebirth has a ton of fluff and repetitive exploration. And some of the new scenes feel awfully abrupt (like w.e the heck was going on in Gongaga lol). The ending is also goofy af. Idk what they're doing with the timeline nonsense, but making a mockery out of an iconic death is lame.

I feel like Part 3 has to double down on the multi-timeline shenanigans, or it'll be disappointing. If, all said and done, things play out more or less like they do in the original FFVII, then it might just feel pointless to me. Guess we'll see!

I think Aerith and Barret benefit the most from FF7R as a whole Aerith is the life of the party, so she really gets to shine, as do her relationships with Cloud and Tifa. And Barret is honestly just great. Dude's hilarious. And for me the battle vs Dyne was one of the highlights of the game.

Michael was... alright? Jaafar Jackson rocks the role, but I thought the movie itself was pretty "safe" otherwise, especially given how interesting of a life/career MJ had. I suppose in a landscape of negative press, a by-the-books retelling of the tale is welcome. I wonder how they'll handle pt 2.

I recently watched Hercules and Phantom of the Opera. I enjoy musicals, I think they're a great part of London culture. I want to explore more, for as long as I'm still here. I can see why Tomino is/was obsessed with theater groups. He often includes elements of drama & theater into his works.

Musicals I've seen so far: - My Neighbor Totoro - Lion King - Starlight Express - Hercules - Phantom of the Opera Next is maybe Les Misérables

I hadn't realized that Hathaway 2 was already getting a stateside theater release. I am way out of the loop these days 😅 I wonder if it'll come to Europe soon

I hope the MSG remaster or w/e isn't a cropped HD mess like the SEED one was, but idk what else it would be... Well, new Gundam SEED movie means new banger by TMR at least 🎶

Kinda lame that they're trying to erase G-Saviour's place as the first live-action Gundam film. It was part of the Big Bang Project, which celebrated the Gundam franchise's 20th anniversary! Even if it wasn't a critical hit nor commercial success, its legacy should still be acknowledged...

Watched Project Hail Mary. Incredible movie. I haven't read the book, but I've enjoyed some of Andy Weir's previous novels, like The Martian and Artemis.
