Women have very little power and influence in computer science. Nineteen-eighties media saw a shift in computer programming representation as a guy’s activity. During the 1970s and early 1980s, advertising made a distinct effort to show diversity in the computer industry.

Men are wired to be providers, women to be caregivers That’s how men are, get used to it Working hard will earn you your reward But...#PhDs are bad hires. These are excuses to underpay, and not hire & promote women scientists.

upset since I had a feminist woman (married of course) give me advice like 'oh at least I'm not in a bad relationship' when opening up about my financial issues. Poverty is mentally, physically, and emotionally draining, just like a bad relationship

Being single is also draining. Social ostracization is real. I've been excluded from job networking opportunities for being single. From friend groups. People happily dump more labor in my lap. Don't get me started on touch-deprivation.

'Your 30s are like your 20s but with money' LOL!!!! I'm actually single with no kids, and most people have said oh that's great look at all the $$ you saved, but LOL I'm paying for everything myself. Wasting my youth rotting in high-rent apartments.

If someone offered me a six-figure job, or I won the lottery I guess my life could change. But I think I should have just played the lottery every week for the past twenty years and I'd probably have more money.

The worst is that your hope for a better future seriously starts dying. It's one thing to be 'poor' at 23, another approaching 40, when ageism kicks in, your friends disappear, and even your CHANCE of having kids is taken away from you by biology, and menopause starts kicking you when your down.

And it's not a smorgasbord of sex, parties, and flirting. I can't afford any of the beauty treatments (or clothes!) for such a lifestyle. I sew clothes from Walmart together to re-wear and ride public transport where I get screamed at by random people.

Mary Ingram Bunting (1910–1998) earned a doctorate in agricultural bacteriology from the University of Wisconsin in 1934. In 1938, she was a research assistant at Yale Medical School and worked part-time as a trailing spouse to her husband while raising 3 kids.

She became an advocate for adult women’s education, especially re-entry into the workforce later in life and going back to school. She became president of Radcliffe College in Cambridge, Massachusetts (1960–72). Radcliffe's Mary Ingram Bunting Institute is named after her.

“How sad, I thought. What a waste. Who are they? What had stopped them?” After realizing the data was surpassed, she realized “in this country we did not expect women to contribute anything really important to science or– I soon realized– to any intellectual frontier”

During her time at the NSF, she repeatedly questioned gender disparities (since there was a so-called ‘shortage’ of scientists in the US), and realized the NSF was hiding data—notably that many high achieving female high school students were not attending college.

Learn #coding! The American Standard Code for Information Interchange codes the numbers, letters, and punctuation we put into our computer. Unlike Chatgpt, computers cannot process natural language directly—they use a process called tokenization. #feministengineering_coding

During the 1950s and 1960s, an increasingly negative attitude towards Home Economics emerged. Home Economics, which had been involved in vital outreach and research efforts, particularly during times of national crises, was being treated as an embarrassment.

My former PI said that they were 'fine' with grad students using #AI to write admissions essays. 3 years later, the PI stopped admitted funded #gradstudents , only students that pay tuition and have to work long hours. #AI will strip research down to the bare bone.

Sexist Norms in #STEM spaces--education, industry, ect. They play on your fears of redundancy, and expect superhuman effort. Your must never inconvenience anyone There are many people behind your able to fill your job/place It’s your job to improve yourself The work is the prize

One of the most hurtful things in my career is that my bosses (both men and women) despite my hours and hours of labor for them for way less than I deserve couldn’t be bothered to write a letter of recommendation for me. #academichatter

Struggling to figure out what I have to 'look forward to' in life. Gray hair? Reading glasses? Menopause? Social and romantic isolation and ostracization? Working for minimum wage? Never being able to retire or travel? Not being able to get a book published? #depression

I've done given enough free labor for 1 lifetime. Can't get a full time job/career. Don't like pets. Nobody reads what I write. Everybody thinks I'm weird. I've been in therapy for yrs. Very unlikely to have kids. No nieces or nephews. Poor money. Most of my family is estraged.

No happy romantic moments to look back too. No amazing thing to look back on. No happy memories. Just constant fucking rejection for the past 20 years from bosses, lit mags, friends, family, romantic interests.

Society has been telling me 'it gets better' for the past 20 years, when my major depression started. IT has not. No sex. No romance. No great career. No travel. Working myself to the bone to have my income all go to rent. having the taxman after me.
