fëolnir 🐿️

I write fantasy web novels inspired both by my academic studies as a historian and the growing hoard of Japanese light novels, manga, and anime I consume 👁️👄👁️

I haven’t been on Bsky for a while, but I’m giving it another try. I’d love to connect with fellow anime watchers and light novel / manga readers! 📚

Here are the light novels I’ve been reading on @bookwalker.com lately! I actually just finished vol. 6 of Tiny Witch yesterday and just started reading vol. 7 of Saint’s Power. I’d love to know what ‘anime’ reading others are enjoying lately, too!

I’ve done this to myself for worldbuilding reasons…but I find her hair color quite difficult to pull off. Anyway! Going well, I think. (An original character featuring soon in my free fantasy web novel.) #wip

I’m almost done writing chapter 13 of my free fantasy web novel! I just have a few more details to address.

Thrifted this vintage puffin mug yesterday. It reminds me (in a strangely cozy way) of my time spent in Iceland.

Fëolnir’s Journal: Olëamára After several years, I finally drew a new herb in my (second) worldbuilding journal! This one is called an olëamára, or river-berry. It’s mentioned in chapter 2 of A Dawn from the West. As usual, I include a short explanation for this herb in the journal, which reads:…

I just finished drawing the concept art for chapter 10 and I couldn't stop myself from sharing it with you, my beloved subscriber! If you haven't already, I suggest reading that sneak peek I posted yesterday to get a taste for what's to come. I'm very excited for this part of the story.

I now have 5 email subscribers (sort of), so I’m thinking of offering some new chapter previews for them! That said, I’ll be offering a preview of chapter 10 of A Dawn from the West very soon!

I’ve been reading Secrets of the Silent Witch instead of being on social media, but! I have a few updates for those who’d like them. 1. Chapter 10 of A Dawn from the West is halfway done! I’m on a roll. 2. I updated my Characters page. I can’t believe I’ve already mentioned over 30 characters!

I’ve finished chapter 9 of my web novel! Next step is to record and edit my audio narration. This is where the story really starts to take off. #writing #fantasy

I’ve mostly been out wandering away from social media, but I’ve been continuing to work on and update my web novel, A Dawn from the West. Chapter 8 was released last week. You can find that (and more) here: feolnir.com/web-novels/a...

If you don’t like nature, you probably shouldn’t read my serializing fantasy web novel. All the good characters are tree huggers. They will literally cry for abused trees and herbs (especially Fëor). You’ve been warned.

These characters only ask for one thing: read the their story (for free) at feolnir.substack.com! It’s a fantasy web novel serializing weekly! It was so refreshing to draw this, btw. For months art felt more like an obligation. But this was different! This was one was for me. I hope you like it!

I’m giving Substack a try! My fantasy web novel is still free, of course. If you’d like to be an early supporter, I’d greatly honor you with a sacred cow (if I had any). My happiness will have to suffice, for now. That and special artwork. Posting starts on 8/19 at 9am EST!

It has indeed begun.

The historian in me craves to create detailed political maps for a region in my fantasy world to show the consolidation of power leading up to the time period of my current web novel 🫣 #worldbuilding

I know it’s hard, but try not to determine your worth by likes and followers, friends 🥺 Try to focus on the *act* of creating and, through that, the happiness your soul feels when you do. Eventually, with enough persistence, you’ll draw others into the flower blooming through your efforts 🥹

Since buying a Princess Mononoke sweater, my mind’s been on how it influenced the concept for Valýría from my fantasy web novel. Also! Golems! You can hear them clacking at dawn. They’re kind of annoying. But also cute. Mossy and adorned with colorful mushrooms. Inspired by Kodamas. #worldbuilding

Let’s find some fantasy books to read 🤔

Worked on some video edits tonight for my #fantasy web series on YouTube:

How deep do you like the lore in fantasy books to go? #worldbuilding For me, I like to have ‘translated’ in-world texts with notes addressing biased authors & variations in source material. That’s what I’m doing with Älthrenalor, which you can read & listen to here: feolnir.com/2025/06/24/a...

Personally, I think it’s a good sign when I have to pull out one of my worldbuilding journals when preparing a fantasy video 😏

Social-media sorcery is not my strength, so many thanks to those who stumble upon my wares and give them love 🙇🏻‍♂️

Book summaries are cool, yes, but how about an epic fantasy trailer featuring art, music, and self-narrated quotes? I can’t believe I made it all myself…I’m like a whole team of wizards in one awkward vessel. Behold! The Tale of Fëor and Ërna is underway! #booksky #fantasysky youtu.be/ehxwo6zL39A

I bought a Star Wars rebel pilot-inspired jacket and have absolutely no regrets.

I’m biased, but I’ve listened to this part many, many times. A fateful fantasy battle ensues! youtu.be/xB92mhs6CEg

The epic fantasy story continues! This time, Fëor encounters a stranger who reminds him of Ërna. Something feels off, though…

The epic fantasy story continues! Fëor finally faces his greatest challenge yet: climbing a waterfall. He’s not used to so much exercise…

A new character will be joining our tale this week! A lot of action coming from him soon 👀 and since I’m excited, here’s a preview of his design! #oc #fantasy #fantasyart #characterdesign

The tale continues! Who has Fëor encountered in the forest? 👀

The tale continues! What in the world is Fëor thinking? 🤦‍♂️

TToFaË, CH 2: Friend or Foe? (Part 5) (Video) Hear the conclusion to chapter 2, Friend or Foe! The Tale of Fëor and Ërna (TToFaË) is a fantasy web novel inspired by stories like The Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, The Legend of Zelda, and so much more! If you enjoy those things, you might want to…

TToFaË, CH 2: Friend or Foe? (Part 4) (Video) The Tale of Fëor and Ërna (TToFaË) is a fantasy web novel inspired by a blend of Japanese otaku culture (manga, light novels, anime, etc) and old-fashioned high fantasy (Tolkien, medieval literature, fairytales, etc). If you enjoy those things, you’ll…

The tale continues! Enjoy a fantasy web novel read (and illustrated) by the author. This time we have a new character to liven things up as Fëor most definitely does not want to do what he’s having to do right now.

Haven’t practiced no-erasing analog #drawing in a while 😮‍💨 gonna try to get back into a routine with it because it’s relaxing ☺️ #art #sketch #fantasy

The tale continues! Poor Fëor…he’s grumpy in this one. The Tale of Fëor & Ërna is a fantasy web novel inspired by a blend of Japanese otaku culture (manga, light novels, anime, etc) and old-fashioned high fantasy (Tolkien, medieval lit, folklore, history, etc). Like that stuff?Give this a listen!

From the Journal: Olëamára After several years, I finally drew a new herb in my (second) worldbuilding journal! This one is called an olëamára, or river-berry. It’s mentioned in chapter 2, part 1 of The Tale of Fëor and Ërna. As usual, I include a short explanation for this herb in the journal,…

Who’s Fëolnir? Yet another fantasy author. There’s a lot of us, so…why bother with this one? Well, if you crave a rich fantasy world built over decades, informed by both academic professionalism and otaku (anime & manga) creativity, then you might have just found your next obsession! It’s free, too.

I need to share more of my older art 😅 I’ve changed my style a lot over the years, so I tend to push my older stuff into oblivion… #Art #Drawing #Illustration

My new project has dominated my attention this week, but it’s nearly ready! I’ll be recording for it this weekend and, if all goes well, releasing it shortly after. I wrote about it in my newsletter, but here’s a peek at what’s the come:

Show me how your draw/paint women 💖 I’m usually just drawing my OC Ërna these days, though 🫣😅

New project coming soon! Exploring different ways to experience and share my fantasy stories. #fantasy #writing #podcast #booksky

Behold! My first ‘proper’ newsletter post! Don’t worry, it’s free. If you like my work enough, I hope you’ll subscribe! Here’s what you’ll see in this issue: tidings, an HD look at my new web novel cover, and a new project announcement (with art and music revealed). #Fantasy
