A special independent body to probe US officials is being organized by a collection of current/former US agents, prosecutors, officials, human rights bodies. Trump will not be in power forever and no pardon or special law will ensure you are not held accountable.

The lesson from Brazil is that democracy cannot be taken for granted. Defeating authoritarianism at the ballot box is only part of the struggle. Defending democratic institutions, protecting civil rights and demanding accountability require strong, sustained, principled public participation.

The lesson from Serbia is that when no party represents the people, you can build your own alternative even if it takes years of community assemblies, organizing and resistance to severe state repression. Democracy and justice are fragile; it takes the utmost strength to keep them alive.

Whether Netanyahu wins or loses the Israel election, there is no upside. Replacing a criminal with another while maintaining a policy of genocide and apartheid is no victory. Changing the face of power means nothing if the system of oppression remains intact. There are no "gentle" genocides.

Eisenkot presents unity as a central political principle while opposing Palestinian statehood. His position raises a fundamental contradiction of unity for Israelis, but no equivalent right to national self-determination or existence for Palestinians. That's still genocide.
