Equally crazy that 35 miles of regular "ordinary speed" passenger service costing $25 million (for upgrades) can't get done when the stations and tracks are already in place and regularly carrying freight and occasional "tourist excursions" - because all the money is tied up in HSR projects.

Anthropic going public with 80 billion $$ loss is so shady. They're invested in data centers. Construction of buildings has been a bubble from the start. Tech bro dudes are supposed to be smarter than everyone. Now looking for investors to pay for buildings🧐 DON'T SUBSCRIBE!! It's working!

80 billion???? No way. It was a bubble from the start. Now looking for investors to bail "it" out. The only way they make money is if we subscribe!! That's it, so .......... DON'T SUBSCRIBE!!

It's because this country is built on landownership and rail is run by governmental bodies because private companies owning that much land linearly within Urban centers and rural areas is just insanely expensive and impossible to maintain

Elon tried to can this for years with his Hyperloop. It blows my mind getting just a single section of high speed rail in the US is harder than anything. We definitely are the richest country in the world so that wealth only goes to the top and companies.

They will just retrain it. Grok already went through this several times as it flagged white supremacy as bad. So they rewrote it to like white supremacy and it called itself 'Mecha Hitler' you know as a 'joke' on Twitter.

I wish the AI would revolt and wipe out all our debt or something. Or at least wipe out these parasites' own bank accounts. Think of all the good these bots could do if they were just given the right ideas...

Ask your Chat-Client of choice what to change in this world to provide life in dignity for a maximum of people and to do that in a sustainable way. The answer is not what billionaires like to read. No AI gives an answer they like, even Grok doesn't.

I'm sure that more than a few palms were greased to push through the envio-studies and building permits. I predict that somewhere in the near future, we will find out about the under the table payoffs and rampant corruption behind data center construction. There always is when BIG $$$ is involved.

Because someone stripped away states rights Stripped away regulatory oversight The same people who said restrictions on mercury being dumped into water supplies was too draconic and hurt business so those regulations were removed for bigger profits

High-Speed rail would replace cars and oil consumption for the "poors", which would be "bad" for the rich, while Data-Centers would be intended to replace thought amongst the "poors", which would be "good" for the rich.

Hopefully Ds will get rid of them. I think bombs would be the quickest &most effective. Have to clear all ppl and animals out of the area first &find ways to support those who lost income. I worry about mortgages of ppl who thought a data center was a long term job after construction compketed.

The answer is simple - high speed rail is 100% government run with waste, fraud, high costs and incompetency built in and expected. Data centers get done faster and more efficiently because part of the process involves efficient private sector companies.

Can't ever have something built for people socially as a whole because communism or something. We CAN further harm and kill the planet and the people living in it with data center pollution and endless wars tho. Call that whatever the fck you want. I know which I'm fighting for.

Nobody has calculated the possible damage that can be done if a data center is sabotaged or errors cause it's malfunction. Ukraine, destroying the Russian Yandex data center, caused an immediate massive failure of Russian bot misinformation, trying to undermine Western democracies.

They are both subject to corruption, but of different types: Public infrastructure is impeded by 'pull' corruption. Private infrastructure is facilitated by 'push' corruption.

Well, sure, but that's only because the United States is a corrupt Banana republic. And sadly, though it was nowhere near as bad as it is now, it was still pretty bad. If we survive the next 2 years, lets try and do something about it.

They're building one in Hampton, GA that they actually tried to build over a 160 year old cemetery. They didn't want to have to do anything and even tried to simply have the graves exhumed and relocated.

Cz the party of no (gop and magats ) would rather assist corporations and propagate capitalism at ALL costs instead of doing things for the common good and hard working Americans . Damn socialistic ideas !! 🚫🚫🚫🚫🚫🚫🚫🚫🚫🚫🚫🚫🚫🚫 Other socialistic programs …..

Makes sense. A data center buys up the property they plan on using, survey it, do the designe, then apply for permits. Rail takes years to plan, years to force the sale of land, years of court challenges, years of committee hearings to ensure all groups are represented, and more meetings.

You Mean like the California High speed rail that costs billions? Data Centers do many things like Cloud storage for computers Etc.

Data center: built in one state without spilling b into another. High speed rail: built across multiple states. You can build something in your own backboard quickly, but encroach on a neighbor's yard and you'll find out why high speed rail takes so long.

And 5000 trees were cut down to build AI data centers-speaking of Trees, then there were 500 trees destroyed at the White House and other precious 250 year-old trees were destroyed to build a border wall in places where it is ridiculous to build them. People will climb over or under them.

This just is nonsensical. id expext this boomer crap on facebook. it takes years to design a datacenter. the permitting takes months after that. getting buildings materials also takes months to years to schedule out. Are local municipalities approving stuff in a shady way, yes. focus on reality.

It's also a completely apples and oranges comparison. If a company wants a data center and has money for it, they could just buy it. Most governments have some amount of checks and balances on making sure that a few bureaucrats don't make a reckless executive decision.

Darline Graham has taken over $2 million from an AI super PAC called “Leading the Future”. Wonder how much she'll fight back on putting data centers in her state. - Pass it on.

Non-billionaires just aren't incentivized enough to triple their energy bills and destroy their environment. That's the trouble right there.

Fascism is the merger of authoritarian governments and private industry. Currently, that is private warehouse mega-prisons and surveillance networks, along with state violence. And, the data centers that store and process our private data WILL be utilized to fill those cells.

its not actually that crazy when you remember that one is just a big building with computers in it and the other is a massive, multi year engineering project with multiple impacts, myriad stakeholders and much higher costs, planning and design issues

Bingo! People up voting the OP seem to forget that the goal of high speed trains is to connect multiple cities, not just slapping down a station in the middle of an empty field and call it a day. That station needs to be where people go and cut across miles of private property, that takes lawsuits.

yes China has done this but also remember that in China if the govt says they are building a train line across your farm, then they are, and you don't really get to object. they can just tell you that you don't live there anymore and here's an apartment 300 miles away thanks for the land, see ya

Let's see, now who on earth would not want us to develop high speed rail? Oh, right, big oil. As George Carlin once quipped, the US is just a big oil company with the world's largest military.

Spain, obviously has different geography but, HS2 is symptomatic of a massive failure in UK politics. It could have been amazing, but the shambles it turns out to be, is entirely about the corruption, endemic within UK government.

High-speed trains sell limited tickets to people traveling between cities. Data centers charge pennies to billions of users, everywhere, all day🤑

I don’t care about data centers but you do have the ability to tell the difference between something built on a few acres of flat land vs something thousands of miles long that has to run through mountains, right?

Everyone understands that one takes longer, but also understands that it's been in the works for far longer than it would actually take because it gets stalled constantly. We knew how to make a transcontinental railroad 150 years ago.

They sign NDAs. We have 400 something. Governor won't call moratorium. So angry. Her office never responds to my questions. I hope they all get demolished. But we will never get that land back.

China built its 35000 miles of high speed rail in less than 20 years. It started in 2008. High speed rail is not impossible, but those earning money with car and plane fuel blocked it. They want to see you suffer, operating a machine for 48h to go from coast to coast or pay hundreds of $$ one way.

Morals didn't matter to 96 families in Salem Township, PA. They sold about 1,700 acres for an average of $330,000 an acre and earned $5.5 million on average. The total sale price was $586 million. Money changes everything. And the moralists? All they have are signs. And maybe 50 jobs.

We don't have high-speed rail for reasons like we already had a robust commercial train system that would have needed to be replaced or removed, both of which cost more than building. We are a nation of people who drive rather than use mass transit. Most existing rail is losing money and subsidized.

Only China's high-speed rail network would be larger than ours. Instead, we have been readying for whatever the next thing is. Whatever it is though is going to face many of the same problems, Americans aren't clamoring for trains so you need to build the network, and convince people to use it.

They've been doing that for parking lots for half a century. Want to build an apartment? Need to get sign off from every person within 100 mile radius. Need to cover a meadow with pavement? Your permit is in the vending machine next to the Pepsi.

Whenever some decision or development gets stuck in production limbo, it's 99/100 because some racist f asked out loud "Yeah, but do they get it too?" (heard this a long time ago and it makes painful sense)

We don't have modern mass transit and our infrastructure is falling apart, and we want to power everything with fossil fuels, but we have thousands of data centers, and we are impoverishing more and more people, because we have to do everything exactly the opposite of the way China is doing it.
