On October 13, Russian security forces detained Hokkaido Shimbun journalist Yuki Imai, accusing him of alleged espionage—specifically, gathering information on the number of residents from the Russian-controlled Northern Territories who were participating in the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Furthermore, in 2022, Hokkaido Shimbun published a series titled "The Vanishing 'Return of the Four Islands'," which covered the negotiations between the Russian and Japanese governments regarding these islands and featured articles about the people living there.

Data on the number of participants in the Russian invasion of Ukraine certainly cannot constitute a state secret and should be made public; obstructing the work of journalists is unacceptable. Freedom for political prisoners! Freedom for Yuki Imai!

In addition to him, many Radio Liberty journalists have also been taken hostage by Russian authorities, with some remaining in custody for over four years. The choice of Hokkaido Shimbun was no accident; this year, for the first time in his quarter-century in power, Putin visited...

This is not the first instance of Russia taking foreign journalists hostage to pressure governments Putin deems hostile; for example, American journalist Evan Gershkovich was detained a few years ago and subsequently exchanged for Russian spies and assassins held in Europe and the US.

The Chechens beat up the shelter employee and took Laura out of the coffee shop in front of him. Most likely, they are taking her either to the border with Russia or to the border with Armenia.

The beaten shelter employee wrote a statement to the police, but, according to him, the police were not interested in the kidnapping of the girl, but were more interested in asking about the beatings inflicted.

yesterday the verdict was announced, she was found guilty of "discrediting the army" for an anti-war comment and was given a 2-year suspended sentence, as well as being deprived of the right to run social networks, websites, and organizations

this punishment is softer than the one requested by the prosecutor's office (3 years in a penal colony), but in any case, this is a court decision and the article itself contradicts one of the basic human rights - freedom of speech and in no way poses a public danger

so I strongly advise ALL people on earth to think about their future and protect it. Democracy and freedom are not inalienable for a person and we must always fight for these greatest values of our civilization to be for us and our descendants

My friend - a human rights defender, a municipal deputy, an assistant to the human rights adviser in the subject, who has spent her entire life helping people, is now being tried for an anti-war statement.

You are up to date.
