I have a friend from HS who works for the local GOP on Long Island where I grew up. Felt great to tell him today that both my parents who live there are going to vote today for Kathy Hochul, Chris Gallant and Craig Herskowitz! Straight Democratic from Governor & U.S. House down to state assembly.

One thing significant is my Dad is a Never-Trumper Reagan Republican (hence my friend sends him GOP campaign mail). He's voted for Keith Brown (R) who is a non-MAGA Reagan Republican for NYS 12th Assembly the past few elections and today he is flipping to Craig Herskowitz (D)!!

Very Republican!!

🚨 LEAKED VIDEO: MAGA candidate Joe Mitchell, who just presented Donald Trump with a “Man of the Century” award, is caught on camera complaining that he “doesn't have a big d*ck” while making racist and disparaging comments about Black women.

Can someone explain to me the rationale for the changes to the international observations on the NWS page? I don't see how reducing the number of weather observations saves any money and even if it did it would be very small where the cons outweigh the pros...

Cappucci is always chomping at the bit to throw shade at the NWS under the guise of "constructive criticism" yet there is nothing constructive about blasting this shade all over social media.

Someone posted on twitter the NOMADS GRIB filter is having issues right now. So I showed this person WxData since WxData uses byte-range requests from the index files to filter downloads rather than the GRIB filter. More reason to use WxData, if the GRIB filter has issues it won't affect you.

"The people we followed [who were provided basic income]... They were able to go out to dinner and get whatever they wanted on the menu — just little things that really don't show up anywhere in economic data, but to me, kind of made all the difference in these people's lives for the year."

What would you do if you were guaranteed $1,300 a month for an entire year? The New York Times followed recipients of such payments who were part of a universal basic income pilot program in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Another update coming in WxData 3.0 besides a CLI are more ECMWF clients: AIFS Wave, AIFS Wave Ensemble, all 0.10x0.10 degree high resolution ECMWF IFS (IFS/Ensemble/Wave/Wave Ensemble) and significant performance upgrades to existing ECMWF data clients.

I've watched software youtube channels and it's crazy that PHP makes up 70% of the internet but a lot of these channels spoke about it like a legacy language that's on the decline. This PHP fiasco reinforces the need for learning "legacy" languages if it's still used under the hood many places.

Another improvement of WxData 2* -> WxData 3* is I am removing ecmwf-opendata as a dependency. The current version of ECMWF clients use the ecmwf-opendata package as its core (ecmwf-opendata + extra features). WxData >= 3.0 will have its own native core for ECMWF clients which is less clunky.

Some AI agent forked WxData and started submitting PRs today. I am not merging any PR from any unsolicited AI agent. Closed and rejected.

James Carville is an idiot. While I hate the DSA as an organization, I like some of their ideas. I hate them as an organization because they sabotage the election by voting 3rd party when it's a moderate Democrat but that doesn't mean we should throw out all their ideas and vote Republican.

Seeing Joshua going at it with all the Pythonistas in the comments section of the Python vs. R debate post, I feel like he would HATE working with me lol. I've never seen someone love R so much while hating Python so much at the same time to the point it makes them angry... 🍿🍿🍿

This is Rep. Andy Harris, a Republican from Maryland’s Eastern Shore. This fall, voters can approve a constitutional amendment letting Democrats draw a new map that dismantles Harris’ district — potentially giving them an extra U.S. House seat. Here’s how: https://demdock.com/3VFD3YC

This really resonates with me as I did not find out what my true passion in the field is until I was 29 years old (I'm 32 now). Keeping your options open helps you discover a hidden passion in your profession you might not know you ever had. My passion is developing open-source software.

The husband of a U.S. soldier killed in Trump's Iran war confronts JD Vance over alleged military leadership failures that led to the deaths of his wife and five other service members. JOEY AMOR: “There's a failure in the leadership.” VANCE: “This is literally the first time I've heard of this.”

Abdul El Sayed is more pro-Christian than neocon Mike Rogers because Abdul supports ending U.S. aid to Azerbaijan to punish them for the Artsakh Genocide and stands with Armenia, the World's First Christian Nation (since 301 A.D.). Mike Rogers loves Turkey and Azerbaijan over Armenia. 🇦🇲✝️

This is Tommy. Tommy had a question about my allegiances. Listen to the end to hear about his.

I was also telling people since almost everyone there is a Democratic voter that for 2028 we cannot have Kamala Harris as a nominee and we need to elect Andy Beshear for president 2028 because winning is everything and we need to also win in 2032 after the GOP states gain EVs from the 2030 census.

Had a great time at the Riverside No Kings protest. Interestingly enough the largest demographic there was white senior citizens and not as many young people.

I'll be at the one in Riverside, CA.

I love the passion seeing this debate get heated (and no I am not the one stirring the pot)🍿🍿🍿

I love the good old R vs. Python debate. Was interesting reading the replies seeing lots of people in other STEM fields, particularly life sciences saying R is more useful in their field because specific to that field R has a better ecosystem. I also screenshotted my response which praises Python.

While R might dominate life sciences, there is no doubt that Python is the dominant language in Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences.

DOGE and Russ Vought’s OMB have worked to dismantle large parts of the federal government. But rebuilding can't mean returning to the status quo. We need to rethink how government works so it can actually deliver for people. @zackbeauchamp.bsky.social explores what's next for government reform: 🧵

vox.comThe radical Democratic plan to change the government for goodThe party is finally mounting an aggressive response to Trump’s slash-and-burn second term. Could their ideas for a rebooted, reimagined Washington actually work?

Please don't call me crazy and I'm not going to lie but in 2026 I like Marjorie Taylor Greene more than I like John Fetterman... Yes I said it!!

When getting my shots today the nurse told me she has seen a lot more people get the shot this year than in the past. Here is why this is good for the Democrats in the midterms: Being unvaccinated is part of Republican pride and increased vaccinations means less people are proud to be Republican.

I want to learn a low-level programming language (either C, C++ or Rust) and I am trying to think of good weather related project ideas for someone who has a solid Python background that's a beginner to low-level programming. Any ideas?

HOCHUL: 4 days ago you screamed 'We love Donald Trump.' You said he is the greatest POTUS of your lifetime. Is it the high utility costs, grocery costs, use of ICE, healthcare cuts? BLAKEMAN: At a rally you say things to get the crowd worked up. Trump deserves accolades for many things he’s done
