Netflix revealed their funny official trailer for the Australia sci-fi comedy titled simply Allen, made by the filmmakers Daley Pearson & Jeffrey Walker. Very similar to that other wacky alien friend movie Paul with Simon Pegg & Nick Frost from 2011 but with a few of its own quirks. 20 years after his original encounter with an alien, Petey never moved on. Now his old friend has returned to Earth, and the reason why is kind of complicated — and unexpected. What is he up to on our planet this time? Allen stars T.J. Power, Charlotte Nicdao, Josh Helman, Emily Barclay, and Benedict Hardie. Petey's childhood best friend, a little alien named Allen, vanished without any goodbye. Two decades later, Allen returns with a secret that could change the world, forcing Petey to finally grow up & help save it. This is made by Brisbane-based Ludo Studio, the same team behind Bluey and Thou Shalt Not Steal; Allen marks the studio’s first locally made live-action feature film for Netflix with filming across Queensland, including in Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Well Go USA has debuted an official trailer for another war movie called The War Below, this one set during WWI aka The Great War. Marking the feature directorial debut of filmmaker J.P. Watts, who also did the VFX for this, it originally premiered in 2021 and is only now getting an official VOD release. During World War I in Europe, after the tragic disaster at the Somme, the Allies turn to an audacious plan to disturb the front line. A group of civilian tunnelers known as the "Clay Kickers" (this really did exist) is recruited to dig beneath No Man's Land and plant a massive bomb under German trenches. It was an attempt to break the deadly stalemate of the Battle of Messines. These unlikely heroes hold the fate of millions in their hands in a desperate bid to win the war. Starring Sam Hazeldine, Tom Goodman-Hill, Kris Hitchen, Andrew Scarborough, Anna Maguire, Joseph Steyne, Elliot J. Langridge, Sam Clemmett, Sonny A. Serkis, and Douglas Reith. Peacock has revealed the official trailer for a new series called Dig, set for a streaming debut on Peacock coming up in November. This plays like a wacky sitcom, created by Michael Schur (of "Parks & Rec", "Brooklyn Nine-Nine") and Amy Poehler together, but also plays like an adventure heist thriller movie. Four archaeologists are working at an excavation site in Greece when they discover a secret that puts them in the midst of an international conspiracy. Adapted from the book "Excavations" by Kate Myers. The book intro sets up the bigger archaeological concept better: "On a remote archeological site in Greece... four women discover an unusual artifact. It's a piece of history that definitely shouldn't exist. And for the head archaeologist in charge, a relic himself, it means something's gone horribly wrong... To figure out what they're really digging for, and to topple the man who wants to hide their history, these dirt-crusted colleagues have to become what they've avoided for years—friends. A24 has unveiled a very fun walk-and-talk promo featurette for the excellent film Club Kid, marking the feature directorial debut of actor / filmmaker Jordan Firstman. It's one of my favorite films of the year! Opening soon this awards season and it's a must see. Club Kid is written & directed by & stars Firstman (watch the trailer). It first premiered at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival and was one of the greatest discoveries from Cannes this year (here's my top review). A hard-partying New York City club promoter sees his whirlwind lifestyle upended by the arrival of the 10-year-old son he never knew he had. The film stars Jordan Firstman, Reggie Absolom as his kid Arlo, Diego Calva, Cara Delevingne, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, and Colleen Camp. This video features everyone's favorites Jordan & Reggie going for a stroll nowadays around NYC where they filmed many scenes, chatting about any and everything. Alas it looks like one movie you can tell your family to skip watching this year. Chris Pratt & Jude Hill star in this coming-of-age drama. One summer to train. A new kind of courage. A self-doubting kid who gets bullied by his schoolmates learns to find his inner warrior with the help of his uncle, an elite Navy SEAL, who uses his SEAL training to guide the boy over the summer. Imprint FIlms is preparing to drop their own special edition limited SteelBook 4K UHD re-release of Quentin Tarantino's third feature titled Jackie Brown from 1997. This was his long-awaited follow-up to Pulp Fiction, released three years after in 1997 (it actually hit theaters nationwide on Christmas Day back in late 1997). What do a sexy stewardess, a street-tough gun runner, a lonely bail bondsman, a shifty ex-con, an earnest federal agent, and a stoned-out beach bunny have in common? They're six players on the trail of half a million dollars in cash. Starring Pam Grier as the titular "Jackie Brown" and featuring a juggernaut ensemble cast with Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Forster, Bridget Fonda, Michael Keaton, and Robert De Niro, Tarantino’s screenplay was based on Elmore Leonard’s 1992 novel "Rum Punch" - his only script based on other work. Jackie Brown pays homage to 1970s blaxploitation films, particularly Coffy and Foxy Brown, both of which also starred Grier. It's not exactly Tarantino's best film, but it has many supporters who still consider it one of his best in his filmography. It originally played last year (and we featured trailers then) but now it's getting one final release in the US. This is the second Chinese action film Jackie Chan has made with director Larry Yang after also creating Ride On (2023) together before. "Trust collapses. Truth twists. No one's identity is safe. The hunt is on — step by step, move by move." The legend returns — Jackie Chan is back on the front line, facing off against criminal mastermind (Leung Ka Fai Tony) and his elite "Wolf Pack" in a full-throttle war of shadows and strategy. Lots of trickery going on. This also stars Zhang Zi Feng, Tony Leung Ka-fai, Ci Sha, Jun, and Zhou Zheng Jie. This time as part of a holiday shopping promo. Walmart has debuted the first of their 2026 Christmas commercials titled A Who Knew Carol. The whole concept is basically a remake of holiday classic The Muppet Christmas Carol from 1992 (featuring the same songs) but with Walmart added into it. Of course. It's sad and depressing that they're taking advantage of nostalgia to bait people into spending money when Walmart is really one of the real Scrooges of our world. In this ad, the cast Walton Goggins as Ebenezer Scrooge. The entire Muppet brigade is back, Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gonzo & Rizzo, even characters that were never in that original movie. Cleopatra Entertainment is releasing this indie horror film soon titled The Invisible Half, a Japanese supernatural thriller marking the feature directorial debut of young filmmaker Masaki Nishiyama. They've released their final official trailer for the VOD release coming up in November. Elena, a "half" Japanese / half British high school girl, struggles feeling that she's not Japanese. She faces severe alienation & racist bullying after moving to Japan. While constantly watched, she discovers she is also being watched by something else – a monster that can only be seen through her smartphone and whose sounds can only be heard through her earphones. Starring Lisa Siera as Elena, with Miyu Okuno & Runa Hirasawa. This first premiered at the 2025 Raindance Film Festival and already opened in Japan cinemas in July earlier in the year. Early reviews state this "stylish J-horror [is] anchored [with] a standout performance." This looks like Japan's version of Carrie, following a bullied high school girl figuring herself (and her identity) out while dealing with her own demon. How will her story end? Neon has debuted a new promo featurette for the film Paper Tiger, the latest NYC film written and directed by filmmaker James Gray (We Own the Night, Ad Astra, Armageddon Time). There's no behind-the-scenes footage in here, but it features Gray describing his intentions with this story. The thriller first premiered at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival playing in the Main Competition, though reviews were quite mixed (here's mine). The story follows two brothers who pursue a lucrative business opportunity in 1980s Queens (involving the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn), only to find themselves caught up in a dangerous scheme involving the Russian mafia, which ends up terrorizing their suburban family and puts their own sibling bond to the test. Adam Driver stars as Gary Pearl, the older brother and a former cop, now a fixer around the city. Miles Teller co-stars as Irwin, his younger brother. His wife Hester is played by Scarlett Johansson, with Gavin Goudey & Roman Engel as their sons. Also featuring Victor Ptak as Simeon Bogoyavich, an intimidating Russian mob boss who's involved. Neon is sending this to theaters in November after playing at film festivals all year long. (Same day as Dune: Part Three release - which is the one to really watch). This crossover movie will bring EVERY superhero from two decades of Marvel movies together to battle the villain Doctor Doom (starring Robert Downey Jr. once again). But no one still knows what the actual plot is. I've seen this movie and it is an absolute must watch right away! The best! Prue McKeel (voiced by Peyton Elizabeth Lee) and her friend Curtis are drawn into a hidden, magical forest near Portland, Oregon after Prue's baby brother Mac is kidnapped by crows and a mysterious woman. The robust voice cast includes Angela Bassett, Jacob Tremblay, Carey Mulligan, Awkwafina, Jemaine Clement, Charlie Day, Jake Johnson, Amandla Stenberg, Tom Waits, Richard E. Grant, and Mahershala Ali as the Bandit King of Wildwood. One of my favorite characters. In Hong Kong, a woman haunted by visions of her future self meets a stranger who changes the course of her night—and possibly her life. The film stars Michelle Mao, Haley Lu Richardson, and Jin Ha. It received mixed reviews at Sundance, with some critics saying it's a bit too meandering and messy, while others were taken by its dream-like vibes. Sundance adds that it's a "decidedly contained film, exploring a pervasive sense of unmooring, yet cultivating an unrelenting sense of peace." Desperate for a change of scenery, the two women meet on the internet and swap houses for the Christmas holiday discovering that a change of address really can change your life. Written & directed by Nancy Meyers and starring Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, Kate Winslet, and Jack Black, The Holiday returns to theaters on December 11th for its 20th Anniversary. Also featuring Eli Wallach (as the loveliest Arthur Abbott!), Edward Burns, and Rufus Sewell. It also has a score by maestro Hans Zimmer, believe it or not. Last Train to Fortune was originally written by Michele Rifkin, 37 years ago, and was supposed to star the late Bill Paxton in the role of Dooley opposite McDowell; Lindsay Anderson was set to direct, but passed away before filming. After Bill Paxton passed away, they started working with Bill's actor son James Paxton, who eventually agreed to take on the role instead. Now after all this time it's finally done and ready to watch. "Although [it's] is set in the 1870s, its message could not be more urgent or relevant today. At a time when books are being banned across the country and education itself is increasingly under attack, the film reaffirms a timeless truth: education sets us free." Disney has revealed the first teaser trailer announcing their plans to re-release the 2006 dueling magicians classic The Prestige, made by Christopher Nolan as his fifth feature film at the time. Believe it or not, this was released by Disney under the Buena Vista Pictures label in 2006 (by Warner Bros worldwide). Nolan's thriller The Prestige is returning to the big screen on January 29th, 2027 - for a theatrical run including in IMAX 70mm. In celebration of the film's 20th anniversary. "I'm very excited to bring The Prestige back to the big screen, and particularly thrilled to offer audiences the chance to see it on 70mm film, and on IMAX for the first time," Nolan reveals. Set in the late 1800s, two magicians dismantle each other's lives to outmaneuver each other following a shared tragedy. They chase the ultimate illusion across Victorian London (and to Colorado & back), sacrificing sanity and safety to master a teleportation feat. This is one of my all-time favorites (it's on my Top 10) and perhaps still is Nolan's best movie. I love everything about it, particularly the atmospheric cinematography. This premiered at the 2026 Venice Film Festival (my full review) and also played at the Toronto, New York, Zurich, London, Busan, and Chicago Film Festivals this fall. The story follows two married couples — a laid-off worker and his wife, and a documentary filmmaker and her husband — whose paths cross when the filmmaker sets out to film them, bringing them face to face with their different lives & hidden desires among each other. These very complex emotional entanglements challenge their relationships and force the group to confront uncomfortable truths about love & commitment. Starring Jeon Do-yeon as Mi-ok, Sul Kyung-gu as Ho-seok, Zo In-sung as Sang-woo, and Cho Yeo-jeong as Ye-ji. GKids has revealed their main official US trailer for wonderful Japanese film Look Back, Koreeda's live-action version of the beloved manga and anime of the same name. This premiered at the 2026 Venice Film Festival (I loved it - here's my full review) and also played at Toronto, London, Busan, Warsaw Film Festivals this fall. The coming-of-age story follows two Japanese girls passionately pursuing their dreams of becoming manga artists. Originally published on Shonen Jump+ in 2021, the manga was a huge success in Japan. Kore-eda's adaptation of Look Back follows the 2024 animated movie of the same name, which was the feature debut of director Kiyotaka Oshiyama (view trailers here). The story follows two manga artists, the brash Fujino and the reclusive Kyomoto, who meet & develop a close bond over making their own manga. This live-action version stars Natsuki Deguchi as Fujino and Aju Makita as Kyomoto; with Furi Nanase & Rokka Okada. The film was shot in Nikaho City in northern Japan. From this tease my guess is that it's going to be like Planet of the Apes and they discover they're in the distant future where Earth is now completely covered with water thanks to climate change. They adapted their own 2018 short film titled Meet Jimmy and turned it into a feature - which first premiered in The Netherlands back in 2024 and is finally getting a VOD release in the US this fall. The horror revolves around convicted killer Jim who uses a true crime podcast to take revenge on a group of friends, and Dilara, who returns to the town following the murder of a childhood friend and suspect supernatural podcast is reeling in more victims. Similar to the other serial killer thriller Red Rooms recently. Home for a funeral, Dilara becomes obsessed with a podcast about a convicted killer, until past and present blur, and the dead begin to speak. Last weekend I was invited to come over to the capital city of Warsaw, Poland to attend the 42nd Warsaw Film Festival this fall. I've been hearing about this festival and decided to make the trek over to catch up with a few films. WIFF is on the rise as one of Europe's major festivals with a solid fall line-up - complete with government support along with the Polish Film Institute. It's also one of the many prestigious film festivals in Poland ever year with Camerimage, New Horizons, American Film Fest, Splat!FilmFest, etc. I'm lucky I had the chance to stop by and I enjoyed strolling through downtown Warsaw exploring many of the unique venues where screenings take place. One of them is deep underground at the Museum of Modern Art Warsaw (KinoMuzeum), another was located at the top of the tallest building in the city (Varso). Many screenings were at the vintage Kinoteka cinema located inside Warsaw's Palace of Culture and Science – the famous Soviet-era building that is now the symbol of the city located right in the middle of everything. I spent a few days at WIFF watching around 8 films (I've seen many at other fests).
