Good night, everyone. With the clocks going back and generally late October at 53 degrees north, it’s the beginning of the perma-night part of the year. Humbug.
It constantly surprises me just how profoundly stupid Elon Musk is. It’s jarring that, empirically, the most successful capitalist in the history of the world, is an absolute dope.
It is fascinating to me that it is a settled point in the Israeli elections that Gaza is a “just war fought by just means”. Not a peep about the +21,000 children killed in 3 years (source: The Guardian) or the concept of Naza (ie “Naza 20”) or the revulsion of the international community. Weird.
This Israeli election seems increasingly like last chance saloon. It it Bibi again, Israel’s inexorable headlong rushto pariah continues. Eisenkot offers a least a glimmer of hope.
Trump: "I'm studying his body. I've never studied the body of a man before. It's not my thing. Nothing wrong with it, of course. But it's never been my thing. But I looked at his ass. I said, 'His ass, shit, it's like a pile of muscle.' Then I looked at his legs and I said, 'Man, his feet are big.'"
Hope…a Korean alien invasion film. There is a lot of shouting, some humour which I’m not sure translates all that well, and, well, to be fair, it is kinda batsh1t. But still, absolutely tremendous. Recommend.
Donald is a very odd man. Admittedly, not a radical statement. What might be is that he wants Europe to fail, to lose, to suffer. He is adversarial to our interests.
There is truth in cold numbers. 21,000: number of children killed by the IDF in the last 3 years (source: The Guardian). 38,000: the number of times Trump’s name appears in the Epstein Files (source: The NYT).
So, if we take it as a given that the US has (or soon will have) burnt its bridges with its allies. How long will it take to regrow the ties of mutual loyalty and partnership…? Is post 1945 Germany an indicator? A decade? Two? More?
Thought for the day, the likely value of the two AI Corp IPOs (OpenAI and Anthropic) combined will be more than the sum of all other IPOs made to the public since 1945 ….
If this blows…you know, like every other major capital build out in the last 200 years…it is going to be very, very, very bad.
Gradually emerging from the fog of the recent throttling of Ukraine’s access to starlink/starshield; Trump actively, and with intent, gave material aid to RF in the latter’s illegal attack on Ukrainian civilians.
A crime under the Rome Treaty (ICC) and actionable by suit before the ICJ.
“Ukraine is Europe’s line of defense. If we allow Ukraine to be defeated, we will open the door to a Russian invasion of other parts of Europe.”
- Mette Frederiksen, Danish Prime Minister
What I want for Christmas is a better search engine that is not enshitified so I can never use Google again damn it. Actually, let me rephrase, I want an American administration that will anti-trust Google to its knees.
Russ Vought is a particularly alarming fellow. I am intrigued by what he thinks is the best case scenario he expects from his efforts (Project 2025 et al). It all seems objectively aimed at making daily life shittier, i.e. quotidian administration function made less efficient/effective.
Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman: Germany needs a war, for people like Merz, the war is a distraction from internal problems and a chance to continue his authority.
“This time it’s different….” If you’re Irish, and of a certain age, these words ring a very loud alarm bell. Concentration of market cap, record high equities, tsunami of mendacity from corporate leaders, weakness in regulation oversight, LT bond yield creep …
Anyone else hear that ticking sound?
Smit Machchhar (Flydubai pilot who, while grievously injured, opened the cockpit door to let the cavalry in) is a chap worthy of memory. A heroic act. Well done, that man.
