I’m already working on a new piece that I’m really excited about woohoo! Take that previously looming burnout

Finally finished an absolutely jampacked few months of work and life admin! Good to be busy but lorde I didn’t realise how stressed I’d been until now, once the looming responsibilities have wrapped up… hope to be more active on here from now on ☺️

What’s even better is that its a commissioned piece from my local art museum but the content is completely up to me and I get to keep full rights and usage at the end, the gallery just wants me to collab with them when I post 🧡🧡🧡

Patrons! There’s one day left to tell me what past illustration of mine (if any) you’d like to feature in 2027’s calendar🏺🏛️🌿 www.patreon.com/posts/172566...

It's happening!!! My 2027 calendars are nearly ready! 🗓️🏺🌿 Members of ALL tiers can view a sneak peek on my Patreon, and vote on 3 of my past illustrations to feature this upcoming year🗓️ www.patreon.com/posts/172566...

The October sticker is the utterly delightful skeleton mosaic from Antioch, modern-day Turkiye. The Ancient Greek slogan reads euphrosynos, loosely translated to “Be cheerful (and enjoy your life).” My Ancient Greek is very rusty, so I cannot comment on the accuracy minutiae Patreon.com/flaroh

the ‘Memento Mori’ mosaic from the triclinium (dining room) of a house in Pompeii (possibly owned by M. Vesonius Primus), which depicts an allegory of death and how it comes for all. I’ve always loved this mosaic, and its feature in HBO Rome’s intro just makes it all the more iconic

Book haul from my day trip into Alnwick, Northumberland📚 Knossos handbook is from the iconic Barter Books, but their fiction and classics selection was pretty poor so I had better luck in the charity shops

Sometimes you see an artefact where myth, magic & reality all seem to converge… Behold, the Iron Age Torrs Pony Cap; pulled from a Scottish bog in the 19thC & dating to the 3rdC BC, the horns were still attached when found. Chariot ponies knew they were cool. National Museum Scotland #FindsFriday

Happy Autumn omnes!🏛️🍂🌋 This morning it was the Autumn equinox, the official start of autumn here in the northern hemisphere 🍂 to mark the occasion I’m sharing my ‘Autumn in Pompeii’ piece complete with some of the reference images (see replies)

🍂✨ Today marks the #Autumn #Equinox, when day & night are approximately equal in length. For the #Romans, autumn meant harvest, including the #vindemia — the grape harvest. The season could be personified as Autumnus, while Ceres, Pomona & Bacchus were all linked with agriculture, fruit & wine.

As we enter spring in Australia, here’s four beautiful birds from a Pompeian fresco. 📍 House of the Golden Bracelet 🕰️C 1st AD 📷 mine

It is a nighttime scene in the House of the Faun room at the National Archaeology Museum in Naples. The eponymous faun/satyr is in the foreground, observed by a ghostly Roman lady who looks mournfully at her former possessions. This photo I took of the faun statue was the inspo behind this piece!

🏺 Looking at this and (thanks to @emmasouthon.bsky.social ) wondering how many enslaved people's hands opened the pouch and got out this expensive imported comb and de-loused the hair of powerful owners who controlled every aspect of their lives, again and again and again

Sistory History Podcast@sistoryhistory.bsky.social

For #FindsFriday we have two boxwood combs, one of which was found still in its leather pouch in the Commanding Officer’s residence at #Vindolanda and dating to before 100 C.E. All combs found were made on the continent and imported. 📸 Us #romanbritain #archaeology #romanmilitary #skystorians

Work is back up! Epic the Musical never even bothered to respond to my counter notice, so it was reinstated after 2 weeks. None of my tags were dodgy so all I can assume is my work was taken down over Epic trying to copyright… checks notes… Aphrodite Areia 🙃 what a fucking joke

Epic the musical filing a complaint against one of my Ancient Greek myth artworks was not on my 2026 bingo card 🙃 I’m actually really pissed off

“This is the tomb of the dog, Stephanos, who perished. Whom Rhodope shed tears for and buried like a human” 💔 Bringing back my 2023 Rhodope & Stephanos portrait for #internationaldogday 🐶🏺🌿

In Termessos, a wealthy lady named Rhodope interred her little dog Stephanos in a small tomb like a human. She was later laid to rest nearby. As far as I can research, we don’t know when they lived, or much about their lives, except that Rhodope wanted us to know how much Stephanos meant to her🧡

A 3,400 year-old Egyptian glass kohl tube and applicator! ✨ It belonged to a woman named Merit, and was part of her beauty case. Glass was a luxury material at that time, making this a precious possession. From Merit’s tomb (TT8), Deir el-Medina. 📷 Museo Egizio, Turin #Archaeology
