The dielectric constant is just a multiplier. A vacuum is exactly 1. Dry air is 1.00059. Rubber is 3.0, so a rubber dielectric gives you 3 times the capacitance a vacuum would. That is all it tells you. youtu.be/KL-GfLDGmN8 #iTeachPhysics #Physics #Science #EduSky #APPhysics

Live Kahoot on my YouTube channel, Monday November 2nd at 7pm Eastern. 10 multiple choice questions on AP Physics 1 Unit 2, Forces and Translational Dynamics. Free, and a lot more fun with a crowd. youtu.be/SCQ5dDoWKkc #iTeachPhysics #APPhysics1 #Physics #EduSky #Kahoot
Summing the forces on a free body diagram is just tip to tail vector addition. Same thing you already know how to do. And the order you add them in does not matter, which surprises students every time. youtu.be/-n0fdAIOLag #iTeachPhysics #Physics #Science #EduSky #APPhysics1
I sorted all 700+ of my physics videos into 8 more curricula: IB, JEE and NEET, A Level, MCAT, Philippines DepEd, Ontario, Australia, Gaokao. Free pages for each on my site. The laws of physics are the same everywhere. youtu.be/ocUkYKoPYp0 #iTeachPhysics #Physics #EduSky #IBPhysics
Two point charges, find the net electric field at a point P. Billy solves for the angle, then realizes he never needed it: sine theta was 0.4 over 0.5 all along. Electric field vectors add exactly like forces do. youtu.be/sjPqFxdnCzM #iTeachPhysics #Physics #Science #EduSky #APPhysics
I measured the dielectric constant of printer paper with a capacitor made of foil and paper. Stack sheets, measure capacitance, linearize, take the slope. Out comes 2.4, and the published range is 2 to 4. youtu.be/2uNivhQd3hA #iTeachPhysics #Physics #Science #EduSky #APPhysics
Electric potential is a scalar, so superposition is just addition. Two point charges, one unknown, and the spot where the total potential is zero tells you the sign and relative size of that charge before any algebra. youtu.be/QG9gutOktvs #iTeachPhysics #Physics #Science #EduSky #APPhysics
Acceleration in meters per second squared is also meters per second every second. A basketball on an incline makes that click. Same constant acceleration rolling down and coming back up. youtu.be/gc_j1K3UA6w #iTeachPhysics #Physics #Science #EduSky #APPhysics1
New lesson: add a dielectric to a capacitor held at constant potential difference. Capacitance increases. Charge increases. Net electric field does not change at all. Bobby asks how, and answering him is the whole video. youtu.be/PiVyi7854eY #iTeachPhysics #Physics #Science #EduSky #APPhysics
Aluminum foil, printer paper, a dictionary, and 120 pounds of mass. That is a real parallel plate capacitor. The paper is the dielectric and has to be wider than the foil so the plates never touch. Reads 11.73 nF. youtu.be/Nev4F_QR03A #iTeachPhysics #Physics #Science #EduSky #APPhysics
New lesson: deriving the electric field between the plates of a parallel plate capacitor, then applying it to a homemade aluminum foil and printer paper capacitor. One plate ends up with about 670 billion more electrons than protons. youtu.be/W_P1HY82zm0 #iTeachPhysics #Physics #EduSky #APPhysics
Zero work to move a charge along an equipotential surface. Both forces perpendicular to displacement. Same thing in gravity. Two different fields, same idea, zero work every time. youtu.be/RcixASy2XmI #iTeachPhysics #Physics #Science #EduSky #ElectricPotential
Electric field lines are always perpendicular to equipotential surfaces. Parallel plates, point charge, electric dipole. Every case, 90 degrees. Know one map, construct the other! youtu.be/mL-_HSorl00 #iTeachPhysics #Physics #Science #EduSky #ElectricField
Physics teachers: want to do a projectile motion demo your students will never forget? Drop a ball from a moving car and land it in a bucket. New video walking through exactly how to do it! If you try it, send me the video. youtu.be/cN3iaOQysLs #iTeachPhysics #Physics #Science #ProjectileMotion
Three different tension values. Three different situations. Same system. A force sensor captures Newton's 2nd Law in real time on a cart-and-pulley setup. Physics demonstrated! youtu.be/Lo70OFza4-w #iTeachPhysics #Physics #Science #EduSky #NewtonsSecondLaw
The AP Physics 1 YouTube Live Kahoot schedule for 2026-2027 is here! 🎉 One session per unit, Monday evenings, 10 multiple-choice questions, 7pm ET. First up: Unit 1 Kinematics on September 14, 2026! youtu.be/ekPLvQeJaNM #iTeachPhysics #Physics #Science #EduSky #APPhysics1 #Kahoot
AP Physics 1 teachers: new video just for you! Introducing student worksheets and guided lecture notes for every AP Physics 1 topic. Included free with bulk orders of my URP. Free teacher preview available! youtu.be/6vdoRUc6Z3Q #iTeachPhysics #Physics #Science #EduSky #SciComm #APPhysics1
Common misconception: constant speed in a circle = no acceleration. Wrong! 🔄 Velocity is a vector. Direction always changes, so velocity changes, so there is centripetal acceleration! youtu.be/esf_5HGEbBs #iTeachPhysics #Physics #Science #EduSky #CentripetalAcceleration
I ran out of weights. Plus, it took me 30 minutes to perform the whole experiment when taking all the weights on and off each time. Another fun observation, I left all the weights on for 24 hours and then took new measurements. As you can imagine, the capacitance of the capacitor increased again!
When doing versions of this lab before, I've never been satisfied that we had "enough" pressure/weight because the capacitance will always still increase more when kids add another book or push down on the whole thing. I can see it's leveling off for you but... how do you decide when to stop?
Every year in late April I hear "I wish I'd known about Flipping Physics earlier!" So this year, Bo is presenting everything Flipping Physics has to offer for AP Physics 1, 2, C: Mechanics, and C: E&M. 📚 youtu.be/zm4FOpd24_4 #iTeachPhysics #Physics #Science #EduSky #SciComm #APPhysics
New lesson: build a real parallel plate capacitor from aluminum foil and printer paper, measure its capacitance, and experimentally determine the dielectric constant of printer paper. Then discover it is not quite ideal! youtu.be/WmzqDjl_7Z8 #iTeachPhysics #Physics #Science #EduSky #SciComm
6 fast and fun Bernoulli's Principle demos in one video! 🌀 Faster fluid = lower pressure. See it happen right in front of you. Physics is awesome! youtu.be/ky4ZZ95SzRw #iTeachPhysics #Physics #Science #EduSky #BernoullisPrinciple

I have a quandary. My family visited the Galápagos and I have made 5 short videos so far with ~20 more to make. Should I publish them this summer while physics is on pause? Or will it confuse my audience? Let me know! youtu.be/DnCo7ZXL1T4 #iTeachPhysics #Physics #Science #EduSky #Galapagos
This has nothing to do with physics. I just really want to be on Survivor. I have been applying annually since I was 39. This year I did an open call audition. Plus I look like Ozzy and Rupert had a kid together. Put me on! youtu.be/XcFDIfcCH5U #iTeachPhysics #Physics #Science #EduSky #Survivor
